PSN is down and I can't play FFXIV

Why can't I play? We don't need to pay the PS+ sub to play FFXIV (unlike every other playstation online multiplayer game) so why can't we play when the PS network is down?

Because that is Sony, not SE. You need to authenticate the game through Sony to play it, they require that as a prerequisite to use any online service on PSN. Ironically, if PSN goes down after you've already logged on to XIV, you won't get booted off, because it's only the authentication that requires PSN.

Sucks cause ps3 launcher doesn't require psn..just ps4

Sony's servers are just for an authentication then you pass on SE servers.. but PSN needs to be up to login.. if you are in the game you can disconnect PSN or their servers can implode.. you will not D/C

Yea u might want to set up your system to be your main System and then restore liscense and then you can avoid this mess

PSN is still down for me, I'm on a PS4, got the warning that it was down and then simply ignored it logged in a played a bit. Logged out and got the warning that PSN was down (and actually had to hit the PS button to get off that screen).

I think I remember reading in their notes that if you have the launcher open before it goes down then the game works normally. If you open the launcher while it is down you cannot login.

Sorry , that has nothing to do with this.

If you on PSN while you have *checking FFXIV version* on you screen , then there is no problem and you can even log out of PSN and play FFXiV while being offline on PSN :). When there is no PSN connection the game will be stuck on the Dragoon screenshot or you will get error messages while checking for the version,

Psn is only required to fire up the launcher, if you're in the game you are fine

I've been fine on my PS4 all day. When you aren't playing, do you put yours in Rest or fully switch it off?

i put it in rest without shutting the game down. just logging off to the title screen, not the launcher. then you can start the game even when sonys psn is down, because it's still running ^^

Thank you Sony I only assumed that was the issue cause I was playing just fine on PS4...

I'd do that..unfortunately my boyfriend and I share a ps4 :/

Once you're logged in, you're good. If PSN is having issues, I just put my PS4 into rest mode and it keeps me logged in. I did this last year when Lizard Squad or w/e they were called was hacking PSN over the holidays.

Putting the ps4 always in rest mode for just playing this game , is not really my cup of tea. Now I have time to play other games , still have Xenoblade and Rogue Galaxy waiting for me ;).

Yea PSN been down all day but w/e I guess gives me to reason to play the games from the humble bundle I guess. Played Life is Strange which is pretty good game.

Oh good to know, thank you! Usually the game is queued and I just put the PS4 in rest mode, which may be why it's always worked for me even if PSN is down.

PSN is up for me on PS3 but can't get PS4 to connect, it's been that way off and on this morning.

Time to finally get caught up on American Horror Story and try to beat the Luca Goers on my Vita. I really need to get in the habit of going into rest mode rather than turning off the PS4 to save power.

Master race bait aside, I'll be doing the whole "rest mode" function on major holidays and December - January from now on :p

some guys decided to hack the playstation system security and posted a video of them running a bootleg CFW and playing pokemon emerald. sony shut down the service to fix this problem and any ability to run a virtual OS. go read the article on IGN

I think SE should make it so we can bank dailies/weeklies. Only get 350 Eso tomes this week? Well, your cap is 550 for next week. Didn't get your Void Ark item this week? Now you can get 2 items next week. But SE will never implement something like this because they want us to press the button for our pellet every day. Google "reinforcement schedules" and "operant conditioning" if you want to know more about why this will never be a reality. Not allowing banking (or simply removing lockouts/caps) creates the psychological need to log in. This can be pretty frustrating when something like an unscheduled maintenance interferes with meeting this need.

I'd rather this game didn't rely on gimmicks like lockouts/caps and instead relied on compelling gameplay. Of course, technical issues would still be frustrating but not to the level they are now (being pushed back a week and kept that way until the next raid/tome cycle).

Might as wel say goodbye to my gardens.. I was growing blood peppers :'( I'm jjust hoping my fc leader got my fb message to water them lol *crosses fingers*

While unlimited banking would defeat the purpose of the timed features, a limited version of it (e.g. this week's allowance can carry over into next week, but not into the week after) might be feasible, at least for some of the stuff.

I'm pretty sure anyone can tend plants, even people not from your FC. You'd still need to get back in in time to harvest, but in the meantime, which house? Is this the FC house associated with your forum avatar, Althana (Plot 60, 8 Ward, The Goblet)? Is anyone on Malboro available to go to Althana's place and water her blood peppers?

(I'm on the wrong server, so couldn't even if I can get in, but it only takes someone from your server who sees this message and has PC access or a console that's already logged in so doesn't need PSN.)

I just got on, even after having closed the application. Took a few tries (me being stubborn) of closing the app and restarting it, but after getting a handful of PSN is down messages, one time the launcher made it through.

psn is back up. Im plying FFXVIV and gonna cap and call it a night

Only ever put it to rest if I was downloading something overnight. Thanks for the replies. Learned alot about how to avoid being locked out in future when PSN goes down. Rest mode all the way from now on.
