New Jobs in 4.0, perhaps this pic has some hints

Back in the Tanaka era, SE released this table. It's a list of classes that were eventually going to be released (before they eventually decided to make it more "Final Fantasy-ish" by adding classic FF jobs.

Some things were changed, like I guess Archer(Bow) and Bard(Music) were merged into ARR's Bard class, and Sword+Shield are GLD/PLD rather than a dedicated 'Sentinel' class. We also don't have a Freelancer/Unarmed class here--it's impossible to unequip a mainhand weapon.

Though Astrologian and Dark Knight weapons are not listed here, though we could argue 'Dark Arts' probably became Ninjutsu, and Mysticism probably become Astromancy', perhaps we could glean from these a few hints towards general directionality of future jobs?

Red Mages began being associated with primarily fencing swords from FFXI (prior, they just equipped standard, low and mid level swords. Since there are no fencing weapons in FFXIV currently, there will likely be a Red Mage that uses fencing swords soon enough. Blue Mage was hinted at as well from an event recently. Likely that if they're included, they will be a club or whip wielding class. Remember, Blue Mage was not -always- a sword fighter (FF5-swords/daggers, FF6-staff, FF8-whip, FF9-fork, FF10-spear, FF11-scimitars), so really they could wield anything SE wants them to, and curved swords are in-game as GLD/PLD weapons already.

Thoughts?

Interesting chart there. Dark Arts, well DK uses it so not sure how it fits here.
I think the chart was more likely very early on and they have since then decided to go a different route for classes and future jobs.
We seen that when Muskateer which many figured we would have but ended up with machinist instead. So i guess they are not afraid to change things up from previous FF games.
I really think Blu Mage will be the next job added, perhaps with Samurai?
In all honesty i dunno why so many want Samurai so much, i could care less and would rather see dancer :(

I want to see a tank with a two handed shield that he just bashes people with.

Honestly I think they extracted everything of value from the ffxiv 1.0 and are working from thier own template now.

Red mage, sam, and blu mage are probably in the queue, maybe with another healer and dancer as well.

He could have moves like Shield Clap. Battering Ram. Etc.

I want samurai because I want a 2h sword dps class (I've always liked greatsword based dps classes in other MMO's). And I always like SAM in FFXI, though I"m sure Yoshi will bastardize the class from previous versions. :(

I loved dancer in ffxi and sam but one was tp based and the other was a dps with dmg mitigating moves in the even of emergency tanking. Some of the unique sounding jobs on the list would be cool to implement.

I'm pretty sure Samurai will be the next tank. I hope for a DPS, but I don't think it will be that, because with a DPS Samurai and a new tank using probably sword too, at least some sort of big blade, the two jobs will not be enough different. The next DPS will probably be Red Mage, and it would be nice if it's a melee DPS, using magic sword, some kind of magic fencer. For the Healer, maybe Dancer, but I don't play healer, so I don't have any wish for that kind of job.

Now that they've shown that they're okay with introducing jobs without base classes, anything is on the table. I'm personally fond of the idea that future jobs will all be "advanced jobs" a la Final Fantasy XI, and I suspect that samurai, red mage, and blue mage are in the pipes.

That said, what I would really love are new advanced jobs to correspond with the base classes, which the dev team had previously said they'd do. You could really create drastic differences. Marauder --> Beastmaster, Pugilist --> Puppetmaster, Rogue --> Dancer, and Archer --> Ranger have my vote, for starters. What, though, would lancer do?

I'd like to see mystic knight as a tank or melee job. Magic resistance isnt really a thing in this game but they could do something similar to ninjitsu/cards, some way of enhancing base weapon skills with fire/ice/lightning/void magic for extra damage/effects

Does it really matter what they call the new classes? The classes/jobs in FFXIV don't have much in common with how the classes/jobs worked in previous FFs.

When asked why Heavensward was introducing DRK instead of SAM, one of the reasons Yoshi-P gave was that they didn't want to add two two-handed swordsmen at once, so the choice came down to whether to add a tank or a DD. They chose to add DRK as a tank, and save SAM for a later DD.

I didn't know Yoshi-P said the Samurai will be a DPS. Good then! I hope it will be the next job to be release.

I don't personally care for red or blue mage, Id prefer Geomancer, Illusionist, Arithmetician or Mystic.

All I want is an assassin job for Rogue, with a play look and feel like an Assassin's Creed assassin. No stupid Naruto ninja crap. I would pay all the gil in my bank for this.

Mystic/Oracle would be too much of a Scholar/Summoner, if they based it in previous games. FFT's Oracle used debuffs and drains, exactly like Arcanists do. FFV Oracle's are waaaaaaaay too much RNG-based, so I doubt SE could be sucessful trying to replicate that in FFXIV (given all critics the RNG-based AST skills received).

No Assassin job. Ninja/Thief has always been the FF 'Assassin' job with abilities like Sneak Attack, Trick Attack, Assassinate, Hide, and in FFXI THF got a trait that was literally called "Assassin", as well as AF2 armor that was called "Assissin's Attire" (and an AF3 called "Raider's Attire" which resembled Assassin's Creed with a white hood!)

Nice, if there's Whip, I'd say that's a Dancer. Hopefully, it'll be. And being even more optimist, on the next expansion :)

As for Samurai, everything leads to it. I didn't play FFXI, but, they are doing some seasonal quests that seems quite related to Samurai. The FFXI event, gave us some samurai-sh kinda of cloths and we had two other events giving us some sort of Japanese head. And the reason why they didn't gave us Samurai on the expansion, from what I read, is that since they had already did Ninja, they didn't want to go with another Japanese-Feudal class in sequence. Or at least that's one of the reason.

And, I'm hoping to see Sage/Seer, as they kinda introduced Krile (although he's a WHM on FFV). But his clothes are more likely with Seer, for what I've searched on the web and FF Wiki, with that cat hooded mantle/cloth/dress.

doesnt help that NIN has all the THF skills now , even the chained skills are named on FFXI THF weaponskills ....so i dont expect to see thief ever ...sad because thief has nothing to do with ninja....but thats FFXIV for ya.

Flayer and Shepherd, yes please. Both sound fascinating.

Haven't seen a legit whip class since ff8, and WVR/LTW need viable DoL support. Being able to kill a mob, swap jobs and skin it on the spot (or even set traps) would be awesome.

Dancer or pure DPS Bowmen please.

I just want Corsair back from FFXI.

If you're referring to FFXIV, then this is true. However, in "Final Fantasy", Ninja is upgraded from the Thief job.

Well, that's not true. In FF there is another job system and to be ninja is required to be thief but that doesnt men you cant be thief. Here, thief is class you cant play in endgame and, even this class, is pretty different from the ninja job. Thats why i still hope to see Thief as a job in this game and we should let SE know that there are plenty of players that want Thief as full job.

Besides my Dk can out damage many dps out there and uses a sword :P

Excited for either SAM or RDM as a sword wielding DPS. And as long as it's handled right, I'd be very interested in a Flayer job.

I can already see the basic combo and skills: Lash>Snap Back>Whip Crack. Lacerate as a DoT. Punish as a Stun. Unfinal Sting as a high potency attack. . . I like where this is going in my head. . .

I would be flabbergasted (yes flabbergasted) if RDM is not a new job in 4.0

That actually is not not the truth. Yoshi said, they left the decision to players, which tank, DRK or SAM, they want next, and community picked DRK. Nothing else was said about. Don't try anything funny, i don't want RDM as tank, and if not SAM, then RDM will prolly take that spot.

Yup, you can actually forget about it. In FF, there was always only Thief > Ninja, no other fancy shite like assasin. if you want hidden blades, you can always play Assassin's Creed as you mentioned :P

Bow or corssbows would be actually pretty awesome, since i don't buy bard. It's just, not really an after level 30. During rest of the classes you feel like you have some roots in your class, But BRD is just... too bardy...

In FF I (which is what FF system was looking like) to become ninja, you were picking thief at the beggining. Then you had to obtain Rat's Tail, and good guy bahamut was upgrading your party into advanced classes. THF > NIN.
The only aspect i can think of, which is as you say, is actually FF tactics, and FF V.

Is it called dancer in the Japanese version or something? It would be neat to have a dancer class, though. I've always loved dancers. FF offline games, FFXI, Ragnarok Online, etc.

I'm actually very wrong, it's a bit embarassing, Yuna's default job is gunner, one of her dress spheres or Job is Songstress, not called dancer at all but looking at the FF wiki Yuna has access to some abilities that would make her a dancer I guess. It comes out tomorrow on PC so I'll be able to refresh my memory.
