Feedback for Devs: Holiday Events

Hello Devs!

I appreciate you adding the holiday events. Often they are really cute/fun and I love doing them. However, as time has gone on they are more and more... basic. They can almost always be done in 15-30 minutes. Not very epic for a 2-3 week window. They have interesting stories but are very predictable. The rewards are often lackluster as well.

Please spice them up a bit and add some length and more things to do. Often these event quests are the only content we get in between patches and if they took a few days to do, and required some... something... then we'd be more excited.

Look at some of the seasonal events WoW did (yeah I know, WoW...) but they were kinda cool. Even if it was Brewfest where we had to ride our ram in a little race a few times a day and do the other five mini games to save up tickets to buy our mounts and cool souvenirs.

That's all, just want some beefed up events.

Yuuup. One fate and done for new years event. Woooo. That was a nice 5 minutes

I'm kinda happy they don't take that long to be honest. I already have roulette chores, tome chores and beast tribe chores. Adding daily event chores would be kinda eh IMO. I already found the summer event rather annoying, since I had to grind it for three different characters >_>

You can only do the same FATEs so often before you wanna go home.

Doesn't even feel like an event anymore. Go back to the 1.x events, those were really involved and fun.

I'm not sure what sort of "involvement" you're looking for, because most of the ways SE has tried to get people to interact with their game mechanics for events have not been particularly popular. The "one FATE and event payoff" model seems to generate the least tears and is the easiest for devs to work on.

I agree that the event was pretty lackluster this time around, but for the rewards.. I'm not all that disapointed. the helmets are cute, but I would never glamour them, and they went straight into the armoire, which thank the lord were able to go into there day one. Best thing that came was the paissa housing item, which was buyable from an npc lol.

I like the Holiday Events for the most part. I would add that the New Year's event has never been good to me. The animal helmets and such are just not good. I will look at the rewards next year and if it is this just not waste my time doing it. By the way that FATE was stupid and annoying and that is all...no fun what so ever. I think we deserve more development on these than we are getting, but that is just me.

I am happy with very short event!

This game is too busy and a lot of ppl rush to do them for the achievement on the last day actually ^^;

I think that the age old argument of "I like it short and sweet" vs "MORE STUFF" will never go away.

But what is the "extra/moar stuff" other players are looking for that would make the seasonal events more....meaningful?
I understand that seasonal rewards are pretty important, but lets just put that aside for now.

Below are some options I can think of that the devs could add on the coming seasonal events and what do you think?

1. More quests - This is the usual go there talk to him, go here pick up that, etc, etc
1a. More repeatable quests
1b. Crafter / Gather quests (ex. summer 2015?) do/did we even like these?
3. More FATES - simply just battle fates
3a. "new" Fates - the things you need to do is...different
4. Include PvP
5. Events that are permanent - FFXIV has different events/activities every year, so maybe leave some as staple?
6. Dungeon boss, boss fights - WoW has some staple boss seasonal boss fights (ex. Headless Horseman Boss in SM Graveyard)

They did nice with the Halloween one; nice lore, the quest was not hard and had a fun gimmick, cool glamour and an even cooler mount. It's not that hard to stick with what is going well... :/

Halloween event was quite fun. But i just don't enjoy the 5 minute events run here, talk to NPC do this fate, Here your items. See you in a year!

But would you have liked it if it was more quests? as in one big long quest chain?

Honestly? ...YES.

I know some people don't want to do...stuff...in games, though I don't understand it (why play a game when you don't want to do anything in the game, and then complain about the fact there's a lot of stuff to do?). What I understand less is that they have the option of not doing these quests, yet they complain about doing them after they've done them.

In the end though, I think what we're asking for is more fun. Some of us want an event to be an actual event, otherwise, what's the point? I liked how they did *most* of the events this year, in some of them (including Moonfire Faire) you could put in as little or as much time as you wanted, and still get rewards. Strangely, people still complain about how much time they decided to spend on them...

However, I don't think the argument in truth is how long they are, but whether we enjoy them. I'll take short and sweet as long as I had a good time in the doing. And these last two...were not enjoyable.

Perhaps the best solution is, have the quick-quest for the dashers, but then have repeatable content for the rest of us. And change it up, get creative...why everybody thinks there's this unspoken rule that seasonal events HAVE to be FATE grinding, and only FATE grinding, is beyond me...that trend was never set.

Sooooo Halloween and Christmas events?
I have to agree that Christmas was not exactly..."fun".
But I actually enjoyed Halloween, (well maybe not the activity but the broom lol)

Starlight Celebration and Heavensturn are the ones I ment. All Saint's Wake, while short (which bothered me) did have a fun mini-quest that lasted all of 2 minutes, and yes, the broom...is...awesome...but even still that was the beginning of my worries. It barely passes in my book ('cause let's face it, we were bribed into liking that one...).

I believe there is a delicate balance between something everyone can do, and not sucking away hours of time for a holiday event. I don't mind the "main" quest being quick, easy, and having the rewards, but there should be something more involved, possibly repeatable, to do for either repeats of the rewards, or unique colors, or something. So that those that just want to "get it done" still get everything, but those that would like something more involved can get that too.

So it seems to me that those who talk in the forums like the style of "main" to be short and have repeatable. But heres a question, what should the rewards be for the repeatable?
As in, should it be something unique that can only be available from a repeatable quest? I think previously, repeatables were something people could do to gather "coins" or trade for event items, is that...what we want?

I enjoy the events SE does. Sure they are short, but there are some tedious ones as well. The one for all of the Lightning Gear took at least a couple hours of fate grinding for all the weapons.
But the New Years event has never been great on rewards, for the past 3 years it has always been really silly looking helms no one would ever wear...so why would they change it now? I never remember the event being tedious, because the reward is not that good lol.
Yes, I appreciate getting some nice looking glamour, the Christmas event was an absolute joke - I am horrified by all the "sexy" reindeer running around now, but the yukata's from the summer event a couple years ago I wear all the time.

So maybe try not to focus on the negative, focus on the positive. SE is has some good ones, and some bad ones, it just depends on the time of the year haha

Seasonal boss fights that return each year would be pretty neat. The quests themselves could be new each time - but if they added seasonal bosses that have a slight chance at dropping special event items then I'm certain that it'd be very popular. It works well in other MMO's after all.

Not really, we were just trying to find a possible compromise, since a lot of people have been discussing this since All Saint's Wake and have completely different issues with what's going on. If they were to do something like this at times, my hope would be that both quick and repeatable quests had decent/unique rewards. I enjoyed what they did last year for Starlight Celebration, not that I want that every time...which is why I said "change things up". But honestly...I want the "main" quest to be fairly decent sized, as well, at least every once in a while.

Normally, I'd agree with you out of the gate, but it's not just Heavensturn that has started this topic. The past few events have been non-events, and quite a few players are wondering what's up. Heavensturn, it's true, has never really been all that much fun, but at least there was more to do last year (albeit, it was mostly "Go talk to that guy and do an emote!" whilst doing the grand Eorzean tour). It did have a decent story, and you got a cool minion. The Starlight Celebration before this last one was not a moot short little nothing, either, it even had daily quests, so...we're not talking about ALL seasonal events, by the way, just these past three, really. We'd love to focus on the positive, but...there's nothing there. Except a broom.

Just played Valentione's Day event...and against all odds, I enjoyed it. It was still short, and the rewards are still just glamour-ific, but all in all - I had fun. I think that's really all we were askin' for, right? I liked the concept, and it was a unique experience.

So, I give it my thumb's up. Could there still be more to seasonal events? Absolutely. But at least this one gave me reason to think the devs are still taking the time to put some thought into them.

I'm not very fond of the furniture. But the hat is pretty cool!

It was a very nice event to do with people you know! We're always alone in cutscenes, and I understand why. But i's great to see our friends interacting in those scenes, so I'd like more of that in the next ones!

Maybe spread the quests out over the 3 weeks like the Lightning Returns event? I dunno, but i do agree.

Im pretty sure its the first time we saw another player in a cutscene during a season event! I hope we get to see more of those! Getting tired of fetch quests just by myself....
