More quests involving Lore of Races.

From what I have seen a lot of times. There really isn't enough emphasis on the lore of the races in the game. Each race, sub-race-type in the game should honestly have its own quest chain involving the lore of it. Digging deeper into their knowledge and how they act and operate in Eorzea.

I actually hate questing. Mostly because it involves doing things I really don't care about, and in the end most quests of the game you really don't learn much about the area or its people.

Quests shouldn't be there just to give experience, they should be there to expand the lore of the world.

I am fully in support of this idea. A few of the races really need more lore in general (Hellsguard, Duskwight).

A while back someone also proposed Class-based dailies in order to expand class lore. I'd love that, too.

I'd be all for this. I was especially disappointed to not have encountered any kinda of Hellsguard community (albeit small) whilst exploring the Heavensward areas, particularly in the Abalathia region.

To be fair with that argument, you're above Abalathia's Spine in Heavensward, hence being called "Netherling" by the Vanu. The Hellsguard are down on the surface.

Is it only me who think that the goblin called me "uplander" because I'm the "highlander"?

This has been discussed on the Lore forums, and we believe it's because the Goblins in XIV likely originate from somewhere to the south of Eorzea. Now, look at a map. North is up. So they're essentially calling you a Northerner.

True, but they didn't have to do it that way. We could've had a surface zone, either included or separate. Feels like they did that just to skip over their own lore to be honest.

Doesn't surprise me, it'd be nice if NPCs acknowledged us more than just our gender sometimes. I'm from a race with a history of piracy, I figured that'd make some people be more wary around me too. :P

I think there was one MSQ where they acknowledge you're a Duskwight and it's in the mid 20s. The NPC Duskwights were criminals and say something like how you're a traitor to "our kind" when referring to them and the WoL.

(Despite how my character looks, I'm actually a Duskwight too).

Haha, yes. Sometimes I wonder if Dragon Age spoiled me when it comes to stuff like this. Bioware are masters of game world interactivity. Especially Inquisition, so much can change depending on who your character is.

I'm not sure how often I could swallow being asked for my "price" on an average stroll through Ul'dah before I want to raze the place...

I actually was just thinking about this... A lot of this games lore exists outside of the game regarding it's races history, including the Naming conventions of each race and sub-race.

Though I'd have to say as long as the quest were open to everyone I'd be up for it. If it's a 'you must be of this race' type quest then I can foresee issues with that model.. as long as everything else I'm considering is accurate...

But continuing on from that, it could act as a way to include some new RSE (Race Specific Equipment).

Apparently Ishgardians kill Au'ra on Sight but I never had this issue!


On topic why not just follow the Beast Tribes setup but with PC tribes, that way they can develop a bit in general or specific about a small subgroup to play off of.

Yup, yup. Two years and we still know almost nothing about hellsguards and duskwights other than "they live around volcanos/in underground caverns" and "they send their non-first born children off/suffer from racism in Gridania".

I literally can't think of anything else about those two. Fill me up, please. D:

I know almost nothing about the Keepers of the moon except that they are nocturnal, sort of nomadic and prefer a solitary lifestyle.

I would support this, but only if the quests are there regardless of your race, but with additional dialog if you're the race in question. So much of this game is built around being able to do everything without having to level alts, and that's part of what I enjoy most about it because there's never a time where I feel like I HAVE to play as a certain race or class. Most MMORPGs and even RPGs in general do the race specific quests in an attempt to create false longevity, which frankly just shows me that the stories over all for the races aren't of high enough quality to hold up back to back without an entire game's worth of padding between them......

Make that five years. And I totally agree; lore quests would be a great addition, especially since all the lore is already there, just outside the actual game.

Strickly speaking for Duskwights, it is mainly only in Gridania. Further, all player classes have to cop some negativity in Gridania early on due to being 'outsiders'. Later, once the WoL has proven themselves most still with issues keep it to themselves.

As for Au Ra, there has been a case of a group of Ishgardian knights killing Au Ra in the past. It was quite some time ago now though and much indicates it was a particularly zealous group who committed the slaughter. The general Ishgardian population seems to have come to grips with the fact Au Ra aren't actually related to dragons.

I would like to see more of a cultural dive into the clans. Its a bit tricky in some regards cause most cultures are defused among the nations and that also has lead to differences in how those different groups live. We have touched on Seeker of the Sun culture a bit in the original MSQ, and the Moggle quests do touch on Keeper of the Moon culture as well. Wildwood culture is pretty much Gridanian and Ishgardian culture. Likewise Sea Wolf culture is Limsan culture and Dunesfolk culture is Ul'dan culture.

I think we will visit the home of the Hellsguard eventually. They did mention it back when they first talked about the HW zones. I think they just didn't include it cause they didn't think it fit the themes of the expansion.

agree we get a whole village dedicated to the sun kitties, but I havent heard much about moon kitties

I'm a huge sucker for "pointless" lore heavy quests. The post moogle is one of my favorite quest lines for this reason. And I'd love to know more about the Auri or whatever, give me some incentive to not fantasia whenever I get bored. Even the second Dark Knight and White Mage arcs, where an Auri is heavily involved don't go much into the past. For awhile I thought it was the same incident. And speaking of the incident, why isn't it brought up more? Just a couple of throw away lines by Sidurgu halfway through and never mentioned again. That seems like a good starting point for something.

I'm curious about the background of the various races.

All we know about the Miquote is that they migrated to Eorzea several eras ago. We don't know anything else about their origins.

I support this idea. So many subraces get the short end in terms of lore. =(

Since 2.0 I always thought that hole in the ground near Buscaroon Druthers in Gridania would be an eventual dungeon, especially since there are Duskwight researchers/scholar who wish to excavate it and potentially move in ... years later nothing.

We know more about the 2 clans of Au Ra than we do races that have been around since 1.0

Actually, if not quests why not have a "World of Eorzea" type of Encyclopedia that we can buy? Many games do this, so why not?

Ishguardians dislike Au Ras and have killed them for years because they look like dragons yet you can walk into town as one no problem.

Yes please. Moon Keepers are outcasts and I've yet to hear of a community or tale or with them in it. Besides, knowledge of character heritage first hand! X)

You know, they should've done this a looong time ago. The lore is their bread and butter, how can you mess up your bread and butter!? Show us you care and spread more butter!....that sounds so weird lol but you get the point.

This could be fun, but other than Lalafell, I'm not sure how a race storyline could be implemented. Can't go to Doma and I believe that's where most Au Ra are from; nor can we go to Ala Mhigo which is where Hyur Highlanders hail from. I'm not sure how Mi'qotes came to be so I would like to see how SE explains that one. I'm guessing that Elezens are native to Gridania so I guess you could do them as well. As I said, I think this would be fun, but I also think we need more map content before we should get it.

Yes please, more lore. Especially for duskwights.

I support this completely. I want to know more of the history of the auri.
