Pretty hyped about this item as it seems even ppl w/o houses will be able to make use of it (or maybe I just read it wrong..thought I saw inn rooms too) In any case.. *walks into room to hear Crono trigger Opening theme*

What!? That's so awesome, when is this being released?
I've been calling for something like this for ages, something that reused old content and makes it rewarding again. I was calling for achievements, mounts, minions and glamour from old content, but this is a new and rather creative idea that I love.
I am ECSTATIC! Can't wait to get my hands on this. o3o
The jukebox is finally coming but the way they implement things is a huge letdown for me personally. No telling if this will be a specialist synth or what pain in the butt RNG items you need to get in order to make the darn thing anyway. So most likely look forward to it being a low % RNG item rate from airship ventures and needing a specialist to synth it. Then the music sheets, instead of the jukebox just having it all unlocked at the start, every individual person needs to acquire their own music scores. So think of TT and Pony farming all over again from dungeons/fights in hopes RNG blesses you with a score drop. Luckily they are tradeable. But still every individual person has to have them so more grind for the fun of grinding :3
A jutebox!? Rugs for all!
Here's hoping that it's sold by one of the housing vendors (like the Aetherial Wheel) rather than being a specialist recipe.
Now all I need is a moogle claw game for the house and I'm content
Until you find out you gain songs via worse grinds than TT.
If I've understood correctly, there'll be multiple ways of finding new songs, including yes, primal drops.
My guess is the primals will drop their own song, much like they drop their own Triple Triad card. Other kinds of music, like field tracks or town themes, will probably be more easily obtainable. I can see a few tracks being hidden in treasure chests but even knowing Square-Enix I would still find it strange if they didn't give us at least a few tracks to easily buy with gil or MGP.
My only fear is that this thing will somehow be locked behind a specialist craft...which if so, people will attempt to bleed as much money from everyone as they can. I am still excited for it though, shame it's the ONLY thing I am excited for in 3.2....
Does anyone know if there will be an option to embed our own songs? Like from our iTunes library? I would love to have a theme song for my house to play whenever someone walks in. LORD KNOWS I am getting pretty tired of the elevator music that currently plays non-stop in the housing wards. *sigh*
Edit: Nevermind, it's pretty late here and I just realized why this wouldn't work. Of course, the music would have to come from server side in order for others to hear it. I suppose it would still be cool to collect the songs, granted that there would be a wide selection to choose from and hopefully would all be very different from each other. My statement still stands on that elevator music though. Listening to that is getting old, pretty fast J:
I know some people don't like the collector aspect to this, but being a collector...I'm more excited for it than I think I should be. And yes, for the collector aspect specifically, not just the fact we'll be able to change up the tunes.
Given that we're getting some new system for collecting the tracks I think it's a fairly safe bet that this will be unlocked via a quest as pretty much all new systems in this game are quest-gated. With that in mind I expect we'll all get at least a basic orchestrion as a quest reward.
Give me Cecil's Theme from FF4 SE! Please! Red Wings need it guys!
I don't know if they might have already announced something like this (I should probably look huh, before I post this...oh well), but there's one feature I hope they include...
...Shuffle...
Well, that's just lame, it seems an obvious feature. Maybe down the road they can implement it, like they did with minion/mount roulette...
I just hope SE doesn't do something stupid with it like make the music sheets needed for it consumable or destructible when replaced... >w>
I think once you have the music, you have it on any jutebox. At least, that's what I get from the announcement statements, I could be horribly, horribly wrong...
Aaaaaaaaaand it's not what we wanted. It's neat, but it's not what we wanted.
and paraphrased from the Live Letter:
We've been clamoring for a way to change the background music inside our houses, and instead it seems we're getting the ability to add music to a small portion of our houses. And (maybe), down the line, the ability to spend even more furnishing slots to extend the effect further.Quote:
We're considering adding a Speaker furnishing so you can create a Party Room.
Perhaps if we can use multiple Orchestrions in one house, we can have different music in different floors or rooms. That could be cool. Even if we can though, I shudder to think of the wasted item slots.
They spent nearly 6 minutes talking about it during the demo; I wish I understood what they were saying because I'm sure there was a lot more detail than the bulletpoints we received.
Watching the video, you use the music sheet in your inventory, it's consumed, and then permanently added to the list of songs you can play in the orchestrion (like the way collecting minions is done).
They used a small house in their demonstration and I honestly didn't hear any difference in how loud the music was as they transitioned from near the orchestrion to the furthest point away from it (downstairs, across the room). What I did notice was positional audio (i.e. you could hear the direction the music was coming from, even when standing right next to it).
Assuming you're allowed to even place more than one orchestrion, looking at the interface it seems impossible for one person to sync the same song on two jukeboxes. And it seemed way too loud to attempt to play different songs in different areas (even in large houses).
I just hope it can be dyed, because those colors are awful.
Any news on when the 'jukebox' item is going to be implemented into the game?
I was following the live letter, and I don't know if I've missed this piece of information or they didn't tell at all. Do we know how we'll actually get the Orchestrion itself?
Is it crafted? Is it a very expensive craft? Is it a reasonably expensive item from an NPC vendor? Is it free with the orchestrion quest? I mean, there's gotta be a quest to unlock the music log, right? Like the Triple Triad cards.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, do not make me keep sheets of music in my already strained inventory......
It should be an option if you want the "ermagerd so cool proximity" audio or not and have it as full house BGM, honestly. Have it like lighting, from left to right adjusting how proximity based it is until all the way on the right it's the default BGM inside of your house/room.
People have asked for that for a long time, the least it could do is do that one thing, right?
I'm pretty sure item slot will be the least of your worries though. However, if we do have the option to have multiple orchestrions (or some sort of extension speakers) playing in synchronization, I'm so gonna set up a 5.0 playing system in my house.
...or die trying.
I don't know if it was said anywhere before, sorry if so. If you have played FFXI like I did and cared about decorating your moghouse you might remember how the orchestrion worked there. You had it sitting there and you could quest your sheets, just like they describe it here. When getting a sheet you didn't get an actual item that's placed into your inventory. You would have gotten a key item that was listed in your key item list. Also the key items in XI weren't like the key items in XIV where you get an actual item placed in a seperated inventory. Key items were blue text lines in a list, no inventory stuffed. Therefore I am 100% convinced they'll handle it similarly in XIV. Converting this system to XIV I am sure it will look like the mounts, minions, fishing log, sightseeing log, etc.
I'm sad if the jukebox isn't going to change the full house music, because let's face it, that is the reason we wanted this in the first place.
um....you mean they will change into BGM? source?
