So what is the lore are the anima weapons am not looking for the actual questline lore am looking for lore of each specific weapon.
Oh OK thanks haven't finish mine so I wasn't sure thought maybe there was a lore behind them. Ty I know that most are inspired things. Any ideas I know daneb is a star or something like that
Yeah, it's a star in the Cygnus constellation.
Nothung (the DRK weapon) is another name for Gram / Balmung, sword of Seigfried from the Nibelung mythos.
Not sure about the other ones, since I know not their names.
Here's what I remember of the weapons:
Side note is that they are also the names of XI's Emperyan weapons (some of them at least)
- Rhongomiant: One of King Authur's Weapons, predictably less famous than Excalibur. It is a lance
- Nothung: Yet another name for Gram, Sigured Sword. I think it was the named used in Wagner's Ring Cycle
- Deneb: Brightest star in Cygnus, and one of the 3 points of the Summer Triangle (the other two also lent their names to weapons in Qarn and Aurum Vale)
- Armageddon: Typical end of the world stuff. Speficilay a final battle between God and Satan. Greek Translation of the word Revelation
- Draconomicon: Take Lovecraft's Necronomicon and adapt it to dragons
- Tetrabiblos: forgot aout that, but I do know the name translated into 4 Book essentialy
- Majestas: Some sort of law
- Ukonvasara: A weapon of a Finnish or Hindu god I think (thought that might be Verethragna instead)
- Almace: Like Curtana, it is a sword form the Song of Roland
- Hervelgmyr: I think it has something to do with yggdrasil's roots and a certain Dragoon-bodysnatching dragon
- Verethragna: See Ukonvasara
- Gandiva: Bow of Arjuna, Hindu hero
Also The weapons that become these weapons are esstentialy the Eso weapons, (Which are antiquated) so unless Rowena had these made around the calamity, I think there might be some history to them, but unlike the relics it is preety irrelevant (plus if Rowena is selling them, then chances are they aren't as unique as the Relics anyway)
Anyone notice the manifestation of Anima looked very much like an Elemental?
I just discovered something about the Draconomicon that may or may not be relevant to those wondering about the real-world inspirations for the latest line of relics.
The Draconomicon was an actual source and rules book about dragons published by TSR (acquired later by Wizards of the Coast). The first version, based on Advanced Dungeon & Dragons 2nd Edition rules was published in 1990, as a supplement to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Later editions were published in 2003 and 2008.
Here's my reason for why this is relevant, and not just simple coincidence:
• The mythological Bahamut is an elephant-headed fish of epic, world-spanning proportions. It is said to carry a bull on its back, and on the bull, "a ruby mountain; on the mountain, an angel; the angel holds and supports the seven earths".
• Bahamut as a dragon, or more specifically the Platinum Dragon, was an invention of TSR writers, from as far back as 1975. And, it was in 1990, with the publication of the Draconomicon, that Bahamut was first classified as a deity of the good-aligned "metallic" dragons (gold, silver, bronze, brass, etc).
• As we all know, Final Fantasy drew references from a variety of sources to create its own, now iconic, multiple-title-spanning mythology. The idea of Bahamut as a mighty wyrm most likely came from Dungeon & Dragons.
• And given Bahamut's major influence on the new post-50 summoner storyline, it seems fitting that the new summoner relic would not just make reference to its owner's brush with the Dreadwyrm, but also to the venerable franchise that spawned the original Dragon King.
So, there you have it. I'm not suggesting, of course, that any of this has to be true. But it's fun to think about: an FFXIV relic inspired by a modern myth. ;)
I certainly have. It makes me believe that the elementals were created, if not then they could be using the same assests

I think it's just old assets recycled rather than having a connection with the elementals
Heres a portion of what wikipedia has to say:
So basically Scholars are studying astrology now.Quote:
Tetrabiblos is a text on the philosophy and practice of astrology, written in the 2nd century AD by the Alexandrian scholar Claudius Ptolemy (c. AD 90–c. AD 168).
Ptolemy's Almagest was an authoritative text on astronomy for more than a thousand years, and the Tetrabiblos, its companion volume, was equally influential in astrology, the study of the effects of astronomical cycles on earthly matters. But whilst the Almagest as an astronomical authority was superseded by acceptance of the heliocentric model of the solar system, the Tetrabiblos remains an important theoretical work for astrology.
For anyone interested, Ethys Asher did Eorzea Armoire entries for both Tetrabiblos and the Draconomicon in the last week.
I have a bit of a question about the Anima lore!
So the whole thing about the weapon is that it's a living soul enshrined in a weapon, sentient to the point where it has a gender, and the Awoken stage has that soul spilling out and undulating around the weapon itself. Any dual weapons (Monk, Ninja, Paladin, etc) naturally have the effect around both models; while it's certainly not two different souls (as cool as that would be), what does that mean for the one that's in two? Is it divided or split in some way?
I know the answer is that the writers just didn't bother writing a separate bit of of lore for dual and single weapons, but it's interesting to speculate about.
It make sense. Parties have to know what jobs can benefit the most form the Astrologian's cards and that is an aspect of strategy and tactics, both things being the Scholar's niche of knowedge, thus the Scholars would want to know how the cards work to help use them effectively
The possibilities are threefold:
1. The pseudosoul that inhabits the Anima weapon is split, and should manifest as two separate entities. (It happens again after you complete the Anima weapon proper, just FYI, though there it's clarified that apparently only you can see it. Or maybe the Warrior of Light's PTSD is finally catching up to them and causing a hallucination?)
2. Similar to 1 above, except the pseudosoul is one being; it simply requires both pieces to be in close proximity to gain consciousness.
3. (Most likely possibility) Since the pseudosoul that inhabits our Anima weapon is kept in a single soulstone, or something akin to it, the soulstone is simply kept in one of the pieces and the pseudosoul can manifest and retain its consciousness without the other piece.
Bumping for relevance! After completing your 230 relic, we get this gem from the Anima itself:

So now we have an aetherial being that wants to help us in exchange for maintaining its form with our own essence. Give and take.
For the relic weapons real life counter parts, inspiration legends and folklore you should check out the youtuber "Ethys Asher." This man has done a shit ton of research on the games relic weapons real life inspirations, plus his story telling voice makes me think of a white Morgan Freeman.
Here's the latest entry from Ardashir's journal about the hypercontductive relic:

I highly doubt it. It'll be just glorified flavor text during each quest.
As long as its not like Lilarcor...
It would be an interesting moral dilemma assuming 4.0's relic quest might force us to break it down into __ material for the new relic since this relic's goal is to have a sentient weapon
Personally, I'm hoping we at least get a minion out of it. But some sort of manifestation in battle would be cool too.
I want my relic to grow up into a big and strong Primal. I'll feed it as much blood and aether as is required to see that happen, and when it does I'm gonna take it to the summit of a big ass mountain and FIGHT IT TO THE DEATH! ... but that's probably just me. Having a "companion" is cool too, I guess.
I'm ambivalent about my weapon's personality developing. Sure it's all young and innocent now but before long it'll be a surly adult, keeping a beady eye on my rotation and offering nothing but relentless criticism.
Ok, so after you invest all 240 points, the Anima complains about feeling very heavy and Ulan mentions that it has reached the absolute limits of its power and a vessel must be made immediately or it will fade away. Once the new weapon is crafted, the Anima is surprised how light it feels all of a sudden and Gerolt and Ardashir can actually see the Anima. The Anima sees how overjoyed Ardashir is and thinks something is "wrong", suggesting to the Warrior of Light that perhaps they should make a new weapon for Ardashir and transfer him to it. It doesn't understand the concept of joy yet. Below is the latest journal entry regarding the events.

... it was kind of interesting. The Anima insisted on growing stronger despite it being risky, and it seems to develop a personality as you go on. I'm curious as to whether or not its statements change depending on what stats you level up, but unless they nerf the quest into the ground there's no way I'm doing that again. (I'd like the MCH gun, depending on what the 240 ver. looks like, but I've not seen anyone with one.)
Nah, my Anima pretty much acted the same way of wanting to grow stronger for my own sake and I used the WHM relic.
Well I figured as much, since the halfway point is where the Anima starts expressing its own will to grow stronger for you and occurs regardless of what class you're on.
What I meant was the quotes that show up when you look at it with the Anima Glass or use the sand, i.e. my Anima started saying stuff like "More... I must have more." "Will we return to the woman soon? I wish to use more sand." etc. I doubt it's different, but inquiring minds gotta know!
I'll try and keep a running tally of responses and update later - right now, with the Bard weapon, at 18 points in (yeah, yeah I'm behind on it)...she says things like:
"When will we use the sand again?"
"Should I become swifter, or perhaps more attentive?"
"Have I...changed somehow?"
Right now seems to cycle through just those three.
Just as long as they don't have the Allagans being the ones that created them, enough of that plot device already.
They're hybrid Allagan tech, according to Gerolt, made with some input from the nodes around Azys Lla. It would be a much bigger deal if he could make something like that without needing enough alcohol in his system to kill an ordinary man.
