Good Idea? Your Opinion.

So now we have 3.15 and it's kind of a pain with the whole A1 farms and such. So how about, to promote raiding in the game, you say we do 1 run of A1 Savage will give us 1 of the items needed, a special trade in item for unidentified Shell, etc.

Just a thought, what do you dudes and dudettes think?

Although I don't understand why, (if you're not going to play hard content in the game, you don't need a relic), people view the relic as their alternative to raiding. This would completely contradict that.

lol you took that out of context lol. Having patience meaning doing beast tribe, hunts, etc. To that extent, my farming consists of 20 A1 runs a day. So about an hour and a half of work.

This is what I think, Odds are the reason why Savage doesn't offer any chance to drop unidentified x, is because the weapons are designed for players who aren't challenging that content. The thing is, if you are doing Savage on a regular basis, then that means it's possible you have an i210 weapon already, so why have that content be another means to obtain the alternative method to an i210 weapon.

That's why the idea wouldn't work because of where you are trying to put the alternative method of obtaining x item. It would make more sense to have something like, add a new reward to the weekly Crystal Tower Run where instead of choosing an upgrade piece you can also choose to obtain 5x of one of the unidentified items. So doing a run of all three towers could get you 5 a week, which I don't think be a bad reward.

Makes sense.

I don't think this would be a good idea.

All tho it would just be another way to obtain tokens, it seems a to easy way since people that knows the fight would have no problem clearing it over and over.

The relic grind has always been about being tedious and grindy, not difficult and in my opinion it should remain that way.

Stage 3 of this relic is going to take about a month of Casual Content and less if you use Alex 3/4 as a filler after each daily (Roulettes, Maps, and Beast Tribes.)

The Relic was meant to be casual friendly. Stop trying to get done in a weeks worth of terror, what you could do in a months worth of normal gaming.

Relic's purpose is for casuals who do not raid and want a weapon similar to raid weapons. It's gated behind a time grind rather than a skill grind that is required to run alex savage content. So if you are a raider then skill grants the players a top tier weapon while casuals are forced to grind for theirs. So if you are a raider and run current raid content don't bother with a relic unless you really want it because it's faster to get a static and beat it for a weapon if you have the skill to do.

So if relics are designed for players who aren't challenging that content then why should people that are challenging it even do it? I dont see how it wouldnt work. The only reason it wouldnt work would be the outrage from casual players that raiders could obtain it faster.

There is a fairly large chasm between normal Alexander (intended for everyone to be able to clear so as to experience the story) and Savage Alexander (Tuned to the bleeding edge Raiders with competent static groups on full voice communication and excellent co-ordination).
Normal Alex is more akin to a Light Party dungeon in terms of difficulty.

You also dont HAVE to do Alexander to get the materials. You can get everything you need without ever stepping into Alexander, so you're wrong on practically every count, lol.
You just want the end result without the time invested to get there.

A raid is still a raid... skill level does not make one a raid and another not. Sure, you go ahead and get your relic tokens without doing any alexander. Let me know how that works out when you are just finishing it come 3.2

Yoshi would disagree with that. He chewed out his team for making sma and ps too hard, that it "it's not a 4 man raid"

I doubt they would add a "high-skill shortcut" because they probably want everyone in the queue for most of the stuff they are making people do so there's that.

Actually now that I think about it, the people who don't raid and can't do hard things would probably spawn a thread here about how other people can shortcut and they can't.

Yeah, you're right. I totally need to take a few weeks off work, cease all human contact and grind for 20 hours a day with a 4 hour rest period so i can have this i210 weapon RIGHT THE HELL NOW.

Or i can just scoop up the materials passively while gearing my alt jobs through Alex and burning excess Law/Poetic tomes in the process on the materials.
Since i have no burning need to finish this thing in a hurry, I don't think I'll care overmuch when it gets done.

Also, No, i do not consider Alex Normal to be a Raid. Despite its presence in the Raid list, It's simply not challenging enough even at minimum ilvl to constitute a true Raiding experience.

And now that I'm not on the phone, I don't feel that the anima questline is a good implementation, all things considered. It was delayed from 3.0 to 3.1 to 3.15, and the steps even show that it was most likely intended for 3.0. The steps themselves don't exactly breathe life into old content (all the 2.x dungeons and 2.x beast tribes specifically), and nothing shows the work that required it to be delayed for so long, it's no new content, and it's not even making us revisit 3.x areas for some of the steps, it's making us go back to 2.x during an expansion cycle, an expansion that we paid for and most likely expected to do new content with.

Personally, I don't feel that this is a good mentality to have for an MMO. Completely invalidating all previous content just because its part of a previous version of the game just leads to WoW.
I say that because that's what WoW does. Outside of the more recent Timewalking stuff, no WoW expansion ever gave you reason to leave the new Expansion zones.
With ilvl Syncing here in XIV, we'll never run into the issue of quality content like Coil being rendered completely worthless in the future. I could get a freind into the game in 6 years time and then take them into Coil for the exact same experience that the bleeding edge raiders had back when Coil was the peak of raiding.

Giving us a reason, however contrived, to revisit older contents is a good thing for the game. How they go about that though .. Thats a whole different kettle of fish. But just claiming we should ignore everything that came before is unhealthy for the game.

Revisiting it is fine in moderated amounts, but making it for an entire feature isn't (such as most of the relic steps). We already have things like ilvl sync for old raid content like coil and such, but this simply does not apply to things like beast tribes because it's solo content and you're ultimately just goin to sit and wait for that FATE to spawn, only to kill it in a matter of minutes. The new content can reuse old areas or existing content, but it should not exclusively be old content for the sake of making us go back there.

For example, I'm fine with going back to Halatali in E.thanalan for a MSQ or side quest that requires me to visit there. I'm not fine with having to go to S.Thanalan to do 2.x beast tribes because at that point, it's both out of the way and ultimately adds nothing but the fact they're literally reusing old content down to the bone. The 2.x dungeons for step 2 is ultimately padding because you have the option to unsync it and completely defeat the purpose of it. There's way to make you revisit old content/areas without having you actually do old content and areas in the same circumstances. Even with timewalking in WoW, as bad as it is (due to it being weekly restricted), you retain all your abilties and with the class changes (until WoD anyway which brought no changes) from future expansions, it's an entirely different approach for that dungeon; I didn't have a focus bar on my hunter when I did magister's terrance or occulus.

I can agree that this Relic quest missed the mark. In 2.0, Relic quest was designed in such a way to get people to play content people that was considered dead otherwise. FATE grinding help people who needed to level. Old dungeon helped with MSQ and leveling. Materia grind helped the economy. 3.0 missed the point because Alex:N, HW dungeons, and Beast Tribe quest didn't need help. The only positive was the FATE farming. More over people have been complaining about queue times for old 2.0 content like CT.

You are also right that Yoshi-P might have lost touch with his customer because casual content is too easy now. I was i190 when I run the i170 dungeons that just come about as new content. It doesn't make any sense.

...You know i completely forgot about the CT series. if their intent was to breathe life into old content, this would have been a big target, rather than....beast tribes, 2.x dungeons (which you can unsync) and 2.x hunts.
