So many are a oil upset on the fact the Drk does not a syth for a weapon and it's lacking a drain and darks spells while others including myself want to se mecromancer why not add a job that does both. Use a syth drains the for and summon undead minions. Have the job have abilities than benefits when both friend and foes dies

Sorry stupid correct in the phone. We need a job with a sythe as a weapon and I would like a necromancer why not have a job that can cast drain spells and dark spells and summons undead minions

We know that necromancy is used. If I recall in the BLM story line he did say there is a coven in the far east that use it. And wasn't the sister city of ulda was using necromancy to increase army numbers

question what happen to them. are they still there, when one open themself up to use darker magic you leave your self exposed, i won't be supprise if the entire city ether wipe out or the necromancer became servants of zoriak

didn't you notice that enemy of warrior light happen to be souls that move for body to body if they need be

I'd rather have the Dervish from Guild Wars: Nightfall.

It won't happen - for one thing, scythes are actually already in FFXIV, but not as a weapon, they're a farming tool and thus used accordingly by BTN. Because of that, you won't see scythes as a weapon type in the game.

Secondly, although necromancy (as in, 'raising the dead') does exist narrative wise in FFXIV, it's regarded as a strict taboo, an abomination by anyone with even a modicum of sense (even the Hildibrand quest line, which is tongue and cheek and takes liberties with the story, even regarded the creation of undead as a crime with those who use it sent to prison at the very least).

Although a lot of Jobs were formerly 'taboo' as well, I think there is a strict line drawn between what is considered acceptable for the Warrior of Light to make use of and what is forbidden to us because it contradicts our very nature. DRK is already skating on that line, and a hypothetical Necromancer Job would be well and truly past it.

So yeah, I really don't see this sort of concept ever becoming a Job in game.

I don't remember if there was anything said in the true story canon, but in HILDIBRAND's it was actually Ul'dah that made the zombie-ing stuff. Then like others said, necromancy is basically against the laws of nature and normal/sane men.

Labeled differently, though. WAR is specifically "Axe" while BTN is specifically "Hatchet"(Aside from Axe of the Luminari). Technicalities on the name yes, but it's the same thing between NIN Knives/Daggers and PLD's Swords.

The point being is that you can just label it GatherScythe and CombatScythe. It's not like they can't code two different weapon classes from the same weapon.

Otherwise we're never going to see a hammer based class because we have all dem dere crafters.

There's a large proportion of people who wanted DRK as a melee dps. I'm not sure how necromancers work, but the concept of necromancy and touching/desecrating corpses as cool is a very Western idea. It is admittedly rather frowned upon in JP mainstream culture.

So, yeah, lore-wise, it wouldn't work out too well (although lore is easy to change).
Also a big no in terms of culture for it to be voluntarily desecrating the dead (summon voidsent, that might be acceptable).
It won't create a dps dark knight, which won't fulfill the players wanting to play a melee scythe-wielding dps (makes a dps caster, which is good, but overlaps too much with smn and blm as is).
And yeah, would just like to hear some more thoughts on what you want from the class? Maybe something that kills and heals at the same time, with tanky/replaceable pets so you can solo Titan?

Come to think of it, didn't XI call them Great Scythes?

Ferdiad's scythe is absolutely gorgeous. I miss being able to see the botanist gathering scythe in 1.0. Was drk in ffxi up to lvl 88. Scythes are just very aesthetically pleasing to me. Would love any game style that let me use one. Even the small one handed ones connected by a chain would do kinda. could be a secondary weapon model type like how whms/blk mget shields and one handed wands. I just want a scythe. Played war in 1.0 there was an axe that looked really close to a scythe and lots of 2.0 3.0 axes just need the angle of the blade adjusted and they'd really look the part. Especially the new war relic.

ffxi isn't ffxiv. these two different games so how the class are brought over will be different. when paladin became a tank people want it to be dps but that was accepted.

Dark Knights have never used scythes in FF (outside FFXI) though, so that point is kind of moot. They have more regularly used Swords.

And like others have said. Undead stuff is taboo. The whol HW WHM quest line is about purfying taint that is being produced by an Au Ra and a Zombie Dragon.

A Necromancer in the FFV remakes could be a thing but it's a very strange job and I don't know how it will work in this game, if at all.

Also, there are war scythes, but they're definitely not what the OP has in mind. Or, would want.

And, even if they did: it'd just be given to Lancers and marauders. Or, single-handed scythes for rouges since it'd fit the ninja job. It'd be way easier to implement it that way than making a totally new class/job for it, anyway.

the problem with repear is sound to much like death knight for warcraft. in all final fantasy has been anyone the went down path of be a necromancer that was good guy. through out history necromancy has been frown

The only lore justification for undead in XIV is that they're corpses reanimated by voidsent pretending to be humes (or elvaan or whatever), so you'd expect necromancer to be more of a Mhachi-themed job. It would be an extremely neat storyline to explore the idea of a True Evil trying to corrupt the PC as they learn more and more void magic, something the DRK storyline started to work with and then abandoned.

That said, while it would make for a compelling story, I don't think SE would let the "hero character" that they want every player to portray run as a class that would be, by definition, an evil-themed job.

Dunno why they abandoned the 30-50 Dark Knight Storyline. It's like they hired a new scenario writer and just threw moogles in there for kicks. Not even trying anymore. The skills you get had nothing to do with the quest either. Filler garbage. Felt this way about several HW job quests honestly. A lot of junk just feels tacked on. Many have said the 50-60 story for the Dark Knight just can't top 30-50.

And don't give people that Botanist Scythe idiocy. It's small, handheld and is commonly associated as a sickle. Which is what it is. Most Scythe's in RPG's and in DnD were always 2 handed weapons. Stronger then one handed weapons but never hitting as hard as a Great Sword or Great Axe.

The botanist tool is a two handed Scythe used as it is supposed to be, with the two perpendicular handles. Using it like that gives more leverage and allows you to pull it in towards ones self, which is handy, considering the blade is pointed in towards the user.

Interestingly, a one hand sickle has had more success as a weapon than a scythe historically. Not quite relevant, since you're talking about it as a fantasy weapon commonly associated with the grim reaper ((Who classically uses it in it's traditional sense, as a tool for reaping. But again neither here not there.))

Forbidden only because of the War of the Magi, really. There's no reason you couldn't find a Mhachi grimoire with all sorts of void magic in it to kickstart a "necromancer" type class, other than the lore reasoning that the player would have to hide what they're capable of in every battle with NPCs.

It won't exist because Summoner is essentially one. Most necromancy across the board has always been undead minions and DoT abilities. Hence the egi and lo and behold DoT abilities. And True necromancy being "forbidden" doesn't mean jack. If it did the WoL would be locked up for parading around with Frey's corpse. Ishgardians simply let it go. The WoL by default would get a free pass.

WoL doesn't, actually. The only reason you get out of that situation is because the Ishgardian custom is to drop the charges against you if you can defeat your accuser in combat, which is what you do. The rest of Eorzea wouldn't be so forgiving if you were wandering around casting void magic on everything.

I might be wrong in this, but I had assumed that 'Frey', as in the Frey you quest with, is actually a construct of your mind that is all the "Eff you and your stupid fetch quests" aspects that you don't get to show, ala Fight Club.

Which, you know, going from that angle, I really enjoyed. The issue at the end is that 'Frey' was made manifest as you tapped more into your dark side until it finally was not just a construct of the mind but of body as well.

Nah pretty sure it was animated then dropped dead at the lvl 50 quest. But you can believe whatever headcanon you want.
