I've seen the term used very often when people leap to the defense of the new relics, imo it's kinda weak, and if you're that desperate for 'something to do' in game you should probably take a break.

i rather do the relic than stand outside fc house looking at walls details
at least a goal to do til 3.2 out
Not quite sure myself. After all, there's plenty of other things people can do that are more entertaining (other games for one), so the argument against this grind is pretty solid.
That's not a fair observation, I kill lvl 5 mobs in summerford farms for hours because its something to do, and I'm happy with that
It sounds like the same reason people give for climbing mountains. "Because it's there."
cuz it's the only defense they have.
so you like playing with shi'te? seriously if this is the best that SE can do for a MMO with the Legendary title of "Final Fantasy" then I guess I might as well scrub my Hard Drive so I can get rid of this infection we call FFXIV before it spreads to the rest of my games.
It's "if it's not fun, don't do it" and "at least I have something to do" but they ask you to farm content already in the game so why were you not already doing it? It's like they are admitting it's not fun but they're doing it anyway and actually defend it.
Maybe some people are content doing beastman quests, fates, dungeons, and raids as long as they get something out of it. Before 3.15, they weren't getting anything from it and now they are. 3.1 just added Void Ark and 2 dungeons for casual play. Go get your tomestones and your Mhachi Farthing, upgrade your 210 gear, and be happy? I don't understand the problem. People want casual content, then they do it in one day, then a week later they want more. Get over yourself. If you don't want to put in the effort to craft, or do relic, or raid. Then you go log off until the next patch lol.
Because people either have too much free time on their hands or they don't value it so they waste it with boring grind busywork in a game that is meant to entertain.
Humans are irrational creatures. Do not ask for a logical foundation to their behavior.
You do realize that the argument of "if you don't like it, then unsub" is probably one of the worst arguments there is in a P2P? Many of us have been struggling to find reasons to stay subscribed, because we realize what would happen if all of us just unsubbed. SE already has a skeleton crew running this game (considering it's size and scope) what do you think dropping profits would do? SE isn't the dev team; they won't care about the reasons, just the numbers. Your unsub argument is actually quite negative to the game's future longevity.
A lot of negativity in this thread... I ask the OP and everyone agreeing with the OP. Where will you go? Is there any other MMOs that even compare to what we currently have?
I support this game because it's the only MMO that is fun plus I want to support the game. There is no MMO out there that I want to play other than FFXIV.
dude, you make it sound like you need an MMO to function. There are other things to do. I can understand though, as I don't have many hobbies other than video games myself but there are plenty of other games I could have fun with instead. For instance, I'm playing through Persona 4 Golden instead and having a blast.
Where will I go? I 'unno, outside maybe.
You have a point many MMO follows the F2P Module. MOST Korean games are similar in terms of content and cash shops. Cash items having base on RNG. But being one of the better ones out there does not mean it is a game with quality (even if it was back then). People don't necessary have to find another MMO when they quit, they can simply move on with life. I mean just because there aren't no better games out there does not mean FF14 can stick to the way it is now, true? While I still love FF14 I think as of now, they need to really REALLY see why there is this outrage going on.
MMO's Right now? None. In a few months time? Give and take 2-3 months? I'm outta here. I was considering juggling a few games, but with the crap they've pulled I just can't bring myself to pay that monthly fee anymore. The amount I'm about to save once my sub runs out can net me another AAA game. I've been a player since January of 2015, and I've already felt the burn out. I can't imagine how the other people who have stuck around since 2013 would feel.
I personally have been struggling to stay subbed, but these past few patches have painted a very disturbing trend that staying subscribed would only be seen as my approval for said trend. That being said, you ask what we currently have? We have Heavensward, an expansion that had an epic storyline but absolutely no new ideas (except flying, but that's transportation only). We have a raid that has essentially driven off the raiding community, the diadem that further rammed that last nail into the raid coffin, void ark which is so simple you can read a book while doing it, horribly neglected crafting, and now a 'new' relic questline that introduced absolutely nothing new; instead they copy/pasted directly from the old relic questline.
As for where we'll go? Well, you're operating under the assumption that we can only run to another MMO...which is very, very false. FO4, Star-Wars: Battlefront, one of the countless zombie games, ANNO, and countless other games. And that's just video games. I for one am getting back into mtg, and have friends that have convinced me to try D&D; honestly it sounds fun, if a bit silly. But that's just it; it'll be fun; something SE need to remember, perhaps?
....though I will admit, the Arboretum is very beautiful. Has nice music too. Probably the one thing I legitimately enjoyed for 3.1+.
So let me get this straight
It sounds like, because you dont enjoy it that others wont either and if they do they should feel bad?
Also if youre going to unsub just do it instead of telling everyone. Someone will gladly buy your house if you have one and someone may sub in your place.
Let's get to the heart of the matter then.
1) Do you find the content you're play not fun?
2) What happened between yesterday and today that made it less enjoyable? its the same content we've been playing for months now.
3) Lastly what kind of content can SE add to make the game more enjoyable to grind for months while trying to earn Relics? What should SE do different?
I agree and you know what? I laugh at the rude people. Haha, you cant do your relic quest because you hate it. Good. I respect and applaud those who arent complaining and hate it and those who enjoy it. If you like it, ignore the losers and enjoy the game. Even if ff is boring, play other games then. Its not the only game in the world.
so you enjoy rehashed content? 3.0 was suppose to be something epic something more than 2.xx.Instead the game is devolving... Its no where near as fun as 2.xx. The devs really need to let go of the safety net and take a chance. But unfortunately since 2.5 FFXIV has been on this hamster wheel and brought nothing new to the game. Are the new maps beautiful Yes they are simply gorgeous but that's it. They brought no open world dungeons (like 3 boss fights, mechanics, puzzels, traps...ect) instead all there is just endless fields of mobs and a pretty view from a flying mount. Even the new relic quest is just endless borring content. Nothing wrong with a good grind but who said it has to be boring?
Games are suppose to fun... not a chore. I do chores to keep my house clean. But I don't know what is worse cleaning my bathroom or the new relic quest... and that is pretty sad.
Man, really you guys play RPGs and MMO's and you expect to them not have grinds? LOLOLOL
All RPGs even offline have grinds for best weapons or gears in the game but once you complete the game and endgame unlock for you get them do you go and get them? Probably not and then you go to next RPG do the same. You never touch the endgame or get the best of best items because it is a lot work and you cleared the history, correct?
For example FFXIII, doing all history would take around 50h, after you clear it you have those big challenges but that thing would add another 50h to the game to attain best weapons with super hard bosses and etc. When I played in PS3 I was doing it but once got too hard and I found out a new game to play I stopped and never touched it again. I got the games now on steam and probably will want to try get all this time when I decide to play through the 3 games.
Well, relics in FFXIV are the same, they just make older content alive again and making us do a lot things that consume time but if you aren't in a hurry you will get it eventually, even by doing daily roulette alone and you wont feel burnt out. Is your choice to decide what pace to take to attain the relic.
Even if it isn't the only game in the world, from the 'other' side, saying it is alright just for the fact 'it is something to do' or 'you can play another game' is a horrible argument. Yeah, a decent argument as a player, but you essentially tell them 'good, we don't need ya, go off to y'r other stinkin' games'. Well, you essentially just told'm to stop investing in SE. I know if that were to happen to my designs I'd at least have a little bit of a bitter aftertaste.
And yeah, both sides have some absolute scum defending/attacking the matter. However, a game, or in an MMO's case, the content should be good enough you're willing to defend it against veteran players by mentioning the content/mechanics/quirkiness it has. Not because 'there is another fish in the sea'. I can't say I've seen such an argument delivered more than three times by the 'defending' side.
Meanwhile the attacking side, while spewing their own vile, has also provoked thought many more times and shown many more arguments in their opinion's favor. And no, I didn't bloat the stats with carbon copies.
Last time I grinded, it a) wasn't as long in either of the genres you depicted unless it was a survival mode and b) it was worth the effort way more. Justifying a massive grind just because there have been grinds is really passé.
I suppose another difference with these single player rpgs is that you can actually do everything by yourself. The whole crafting thing they tacked on guarantees people who don't have the money are stuck unless they have quite a few friends with specialties. I mean imagine if say the item synthesis in games like Dragon Quest or Kingdom Hearts couldn't be completed because you didn't get some mostly worthless skill?
in my opinion they should make the relic a 10 times harder grind, but let the weapon -once you get it- rank up automatically with every major patch, that it stays on top of all weapons forever
it's because some people treat this game as another job (that you don't get paid for) and feel they need to grind out content in 3 days and not 3 months.
me I play FFXIV to get away from my job, so i try to have fun as some people already know
You think you're special? That you're the only one who feels that way? People have fun in different ways, just because some people are doing things you don't find fun doesn't mean THEY are not having fun. Stop assuming your way of thinking is the only way of thinking.
Sure, but relic isn't hard to get, just take time. I know that there will be some nolifes spamming alex 800x until they bleed just to be the first ones to get the relic but that's their own ego, goal and satisfaction. Now, I can't imagine myself spaming 800x alex so I will do a bit of every option available and get there. Like doing daily beastmen quests, doing the roulettes to get poetics and law to trade for 680 for those items when I can, mine every day for 1 map a day to see if I get some luck and then alex a bit every day and who knows some hunts.
Don't come here a few months later crying, when this relic is the BiS and you didn't do because of your reasons, because you are a lot behind now and ask for nerf so you can complete like how happened with the zeta relic. One thing you need to know, this is first step, don't take it as finished and don't worth doing because will hurt more on the long road if you don't follow.
