Relic line could be much worse.

Try to be positive. We don't need to spam Diadem, Steps of Faith or World of Darkness for this. We don't need to do A4S or Thordan Ex 10 times making relic unachievable for 99% of populace. We don't need expensive V materia (yet). And, unlike old Atma, we can grind FATEs on any job making leveling alts convenient.
And the best part, it's not i220 so we don't need to do it after i200 step before unavoidable nerfs at all because currently reward doesn't mach the effort.

So that's the way we will be going now? It could be worse?
"The game is only <add random amount of time> old," "the expansion is only <add random amount of time> old" excuses were definitely better.

It could be better, if they paid attention to the relic feedback they were getting trough 2.X.

People said they hated FATEs, Atmas, Crafts and here we are again. People said they liked 2.0 part with primal killing.

I know that many people have many tastes, I personally would go with the Atmas (or skip), 12 dungeons and then 10 BisEx, RavEx and ThordEX kills. Yup, these primals are hard to kill for some people, but they aren't anything that can't be done after a bit of effort and they are exactly the same thing people loved about old relic. OR they could.. I don't know.. maybe come up with something new? (I have no idea what, but I am no game developer, I don't get paid for ideas, I pay them + even if I had an idea, they wouldn't listen to that feedback anyways.) :D

This way would be challenging for some people and piece cake for the rest, which means we would get relic on day 1, which is unacceptable as the new relic is obviously meant to be huge timesink. :)

You're right we don't have to do any fun content for it.

At some point they switched to idea the relic should be obtainable by anyone as opposed to raid weapons otherwise there's no point to have 2 similar weapons obtainable by the same means.
As I play casually and randomly and don't have a static, I'd love to see books with a lot of non-challenging objectives covering all gameplay features, from killing certain hunt S ranks to winning a Seal Rock match.

Don't give them ideas. If they could, they would make Diadem still relevant for later by make the people grind for the relic quest here.

I mean, look at the FATEs - No one gave them much of a hoot after many have gotten to 60, plus the dungeon XP has been buffed.
And now you roll over all over them again.

I pretty much expected one of the steps to involve grinding diadem for spoils to turn in for materia to then pay a crafter to meld them onto the weapons.

I'd take spamming Diadem to the cruddy attempt at making crafting relevant again.

I just want to remind you that you're paying over a hundred dollars a year to play the game on top of whatever you payed for Heavensward. You deserve excellent entertainment for that amount of money.

It has to be "this year of FFXIV was worth almost 200 dollars" not "it could be worse"

It has been known for a while now that Relics are there to revive content, so that new players can progress.
And it's doing exactly that. For a fresh lvl 50 coming into Heavensward, you can grab a FATE party and level at super high speed with all the people grinding.

If you're a lvl 50 still in ARR, you'll suddenly have plenty of people doing the mandatory dungeons between 2.1 and 3.0. It's not a coincidence if Snowcloak, Keeper of the lake and all 3.0 dungeons before 60 are parts of the quest. You'll also have plenty of people doing lvl50 trials, since it's a good way to farm poetics...And if you need Alex, there, people will join you even if they don't need the i190 gear.

The only things that bugs me is why they didn't allow people to by those unidentified items with Wolf Marks or MGP. Every content would have revived by that single questline.

And for people who want the relic, it will be. If that's not your kind of thing, that's fine. Exactly lilke Alex Savage is not fun for everyone, Gold Saucer is not fun for everyone, Crafing is not fun for everyone....

comparing the Anima Weapon (FFXIV) to the Aeonic weapon (FFXI) quest line

1) Aeonic questline there is no hints in game on how to even get the base weapon

2) step 1 for Aeonic is something like gather 50,000 beads (which have quite a rare drop rate) Vs 18 rare drop items
