Wings instead of JUST flying mounts?

Am I the only one that would kind of prefer wings to fly with instead of flying mounts all the time? I know they serve as both land and air transportation but wings would be just be awesome! Heck, have Cid make jet packs if not, I know he can do it!

Well, one has to consider the balance issues of wings UNLESS wings were treated just like a mount when activated... in which case, what'd be the difference?

Same difference has having 20+ different flying mounts? Even though some of them are just recolored now. Mounts never played a role in this game other than transportation and I dont think everyone wants to look the same getting from place to place. AND I WANT WINGS!

That aside though, I was thinking the mechanics could work similar to the ahriman since it can do both and never actually touches the ground. Apply the same technique without the ragdoll legs of course lol.

We had a thread earlier about this very topic. The general consensus was more along 80% No 20% Yes. As for me, I am firmly in the no wings camp. I would love wings during something like popping Hallowed Ground, but never wings as a flying mount. That's just too Korean Cash Shop MMO to me. Just like I'm happy you can't fly in sanctuary areas like Idyllshire

Sounds pretty silly to me, and would break lore for the races.

I was gonna say, lore wise it doesn't fit at all with FFXIV for races to have actual feathery wings. There are MMO's out there with that aesthetic but its not this one. The closest I could think of that would fit would be canvas/more mechanical style wings made by goblins etc since I think there is a mob called a Goblin Glider that exists but that would really just be a new kind of mount that probably attaches with a harness.

Wings would interfere lore wise, the idea is cool but I wouldn't want to see it in game, just wouldn't sit right with me.

Honest question but I'm genuinly curious how Wings interfere with the lore at all? This seems to be a lot of people's beliefs but I'm not quite following you on this.

It could be added in as an Alchemist Specialization recipe, making use of the Greek legend of Icarus for the flavor text.

First wings, then a wind-aether infused subligar that for some odd reason has to be worn over a pair of pants.

Maybe not wings as "body part" but just flying (u can add Flying wings as animation that can be dyed even) , thats not lore breaking , blabla aether on the air that let u Warrior of light fly in the HW zones , or Cid can create something ....

Problem is they must create animation when flying landing and idle for each race and gender same as walking and running. That use a lot effort ofwork for them.

But people wanting the turtle mount and the Fenrir mount to fly isn't silly and lore breaking then? Player made wings would help save development time since we don't need a billion flying mounts anymore.

And it becomes less awesome when you see it more often, IE; every player has it. Then it steps into the realm of ridiculousness when we can't draw a line between Final Fantasy and Dreamland.

We can also forget about the wings entirely, just let our characters fly with T-model animations.

I'd be for it as I have said before, following the Goblins who seem to be working on the mechanical wings (as seen by some mobs) so I'd be all for it. Now as for like angel wings or such sprouting from the body no, but for like a mechanical outfit for flying I would agree with. Give it a dye slot as well and set.

If Cid made some sort of magitech wing/jetpack thing, maybe (leaning no). It would at least fit in somewhat, but I would prefer him to stick to airships and manacutters.

Straight up angel/devil (natural looking feathery/voidsent) type wings or any variation of those sort of wings: just no. I don't think it would fit in at all for any of the playable races to fly with them.

The only "natural" wing I can foresee potentially making it in is Sephiroth's wing and coat with the FF7 remake happening, purely cosmetic. Even then we're more likely to get the SOLDIER outfit.

While not Lore Breaking as some suggested (Because Aether+Magitek+Void= no such thing as bad logic) it would be ignoring the fact that Eorzea didn't have Air Ships again till a few decades ago when Cid fled there at the tail end of the 6th Astral Era.

So high levels of technology like Flight Packs (Wings or otherwise), Hoverboards, or even Cloud's Motorcycle (Sadly) are simply to advanced to fit with the current level of Eorzea technology. The Goblins them selves cant fly. Their Glider Packs allow for no more than a controlled fall. To put it simply, Allag could have done it, Garlemald is probably working on it, but Eorzea just has to little tech developed to support it.

This is not a provate RO server or Aion. Adding wings is extremely silly.

The eff, are you guys talking about Lore. Have you seen the 100's of glamours in this game that make 0 lore sense?

If you guys don't want to use wings, you don't have to, but I don't see why you want to push that on to other people. If OP wants wings, why not let him fly with wings?

Personally, I hate a lot of the larger mounts (dragon, behemoth, goobue etc), but I don't push this notion on to other people.

You know what makes the most Lore sense? Riding a dragon that you've previously killed.

Glowing armor is awesome! Wings are also great and we should have flying-mount-wings. +1 op.

If anyone is wondering, those wings are obtainable during the wedding quest and are consumed after use.

If they had solid lore explaining them I wouldn't have a problem with wings. With the current lore though Im not really convinced unless it was some type of Magitech device. Managing the ground speed animation would also be something they would have to work out.

Cid could easily rip the back pack glider idea from the goblins. *Spoiler* he's done similar before if you noticed the one mount you get via story.

The Warrior of Light is able to manipulate aether so how would using aether energy to be able to fly be a stretch? (Granted this is my voice acting experiences with the story talking, reading walls of text is for sucka!)

I would only want wings if a character could use them as a mount and ONLY if it was single black wing which references FF7 sephiroth and it played "One-Winged Angel" as the music when you flew around

Mounts are one of the things along with pets/minions I enjoy the most in a/the game. I hate it whenever Dev's decide to nerf mounts or make them useless.

If we had wings like OP suggested nobody would bother to take a mount or use a mount, rendering them to useless.

So no thank you!!
The day that mounts would become useless will be a sad day for me. Also, it would be ashame for all the recources used to design them, not to mention the money people spent to get some of them.
