Not too surprising. Just wondering with servers half as empty as they are now, what SE will do about it.

Wow, 127 people truly represent all the player-base.
That's a really tiny sample, it's in no way useable in real statistics.
just remember that is the NA population, FFXIV is the MMORPG in japan and their population is high
I for one am Excited and plan on staying. I believe most of the really active people will obviously stay because we love the game and can't wait for it to improve.
lol you can't really trust a pol on Zam, one here would be better since only folks who actually still log in once in a while have access.
Zam is a terrible site anyway. Take anything you see there with a massive hunk of salt.
I already enjoy the game as is, despite it being unfinished. I'll deal with the $13 a month.
Polls here indicate that 2:1 will stay. But who cares about polls anyways? If you like the game, stay. If not, don't.
All SE needs to do is put off the subscription until 1.21 when jobs come out. Something big like jobs would entice people more to subscribe. I don't see anything in 1.20 that makes me jitter with excitement like jobs do. I really hope they reconsider the sub fees before the end of 2011 and have them coincide with the job patch instead.
Considering a purely hypothetical situation where only ONE person sticks around and pays his or her $X.XX/mo, that is still +$X.XX more per month that SE is making off this product now - which is $0.00 per month.
This isn't directed [necessarily] at the OP, but the "doomsday"-esque threads that are popping up like chlamydia are simply hilarious lol. People would do well to realize that SE is a big boy company with a big boy name in the videogame industry that has been around for quite some time now, and probably have a very strategic and detailed financial plan for the future of this product. If not, they wouldn't even be supporting it as they have been, let alone spend the time to create future visions/plans for it as well.
With consideration of all the currently planed future drastic changes announced today that FFXIV will indeed be next to a "new" game, and it's worth speculating that they plan on 2.0 being the [monetary] reward for the time/money investment they have put in not only since the original release but also up to and including the release of 2.0.
oh, some people just looking for something that's free to pass the time will leave, for sure. But a lot of the game's players are pretty dedicated fans and can patiently wait for the coming changes.
I'm willing to bet people say they will leave just to try and stop payment, I bet most of them dont.
Yeah I used to like Zam but as of late they really have gone downhill on forums. Not that trolls dont exist here but I just like having the place where devs actually answer things and where I post to be one in the same. I said at 1.18 that Im in for the long haul and I was ready to pay then. Plus its only 13-15 bucks its not breaking the bank, if it were I wouldnt be playing the game in the first place as it would mean that I should be out making more money. I am not rich but I am an adult with an adult career and the money that comes with it. I am grateful and will gladly play SE for my adventures in Eorzea pre 2.0 and beyond.
I want to know what % of those people who said they quit are really playing. Logging on a few hours a week or only at patches is not really playing.
I have a feeling all these 45-50% polls mainly represent those who are in one of the 3 catagories:
1) Forum Troll
2) People who log in only at patches
3) People who are using this as a filler mmo
In all 3 of those cases I say good rittens. Atm in my ls No one said they are leaving at P2P... So the real players are not going anywhere.
Only 1 person in my shell has stated they will be leaving. Everyone else is happy to stay.
Have yet to hear anyone in my LS say they're leaving as well.
derp poll is derp.
most people who will refuse to pay to be in a beta don't actually use the forums ever
Unofficial poll made on random poor-quality site has zero statistical value.
OP should take a course on statistics.
ITT we make ignorant claims.
Yep, people here are playing the laughing stock of the gaming industry simply because it is free and there are no other free to play games as awesome as ffxiv.
If it's not worth $13 to someone, then they probably aren't playing it much already and thus won't be missed.
It certainly wasn't because I'm an avid ff fan who only plays the game because it has the words final and fantasy in the title. Or.. maybe it was.. Or maybe it could have been because I bought a PS3 which I don't use, an HDTV (which I do use but could have gone without) and a comphy fricken chair all to enjoy this lovely piece of awesomeness.
I want to see the game succeed. I don't think we as players should have to pick up the tab for SE's major screw up. It's not like they are going to go bankrupt any time soon. They have a lot of money. A looot of money.
Are people actually raging? I don't pretend to read every thread on this forum, and I certainly haven't touched even half of them today, but what I have seen has been low on rage, and high on "Nah, not worth paying."
The ones that have been high on rage have also been high on criticism for the planned content, not the fee.
There's just no compromise here. The other day Yoshida was buttering us up, telling us that the game is @ 50% complete. Today, we now know we have to pay full subscription price. Why pay 100% subscription for half a game?
EDIT: Don't tell me that SE can't afford to do this. SE has more than enough money to drag this out for a long time. It's a matter of how much growth the company is losing out on, not how much they can't afford to feed their employees.
Unless every one that has played FFXIV votes in those polls, I cannot take that sort of poll or any other poll like it seriously. It must have a huge margin of error. I mean HUGE.
In the end, shareholders also hold the purse strings. Shareholders that expect a return on their investment in the company. If they tell SE to pull the plug because the project is hemorraging funds instead of bringing in revenue for long periods of time, the plug gets pulled.
WE ARE THE 47%
If "X" => "I'll leave"
...
Man, it's getting old.:o
Let's be rational here, yes I'm sure many people are staying most likely including myself. But think for a minute, no matter what anyone tries to argue the games already low population will most definitely take a huge hit from having to pay subs next month. No matter who what we all want to think, we all know so many players leaving an already low pop game isn't going to bode well, the thriving I've seen on selbina will probably much less so after the subs start and I'm ok with that I guess because there's nothing we can do about that.
Yoshi seems to have known what he doing so far, let's just see how this goes with far less players. If it indeed does become very low populated as in the past that will probably turn me away from the game, all I'm saying is...maybe it's not the best choice to take at this time, but I'm sure for these next huge updates they need the support so what can we do eh?
No they are not just here because it is free. I've played since launch and I played xi for years before that. The reason I am against this scheme is because losing a lot of players now will further damage the reputation of the game possibly to the point where it becomes permanent. Some will leave now, nobody will replace them before 2.0 comes out and if the player base is seriously eroded by then it will put many people of trying the game. I don't begrudge SE a penny to pay for my entertainment but I am reluctant to support an idea I feel may destroy a game which otherwise could have a very bright future.
