Cash Shop Suggestion

Greetings all, first time posting here but I've read the forums for some time.

I was wondering if people would feel less conflicted about the cash shop if all the items purchased from there could be sold in the auction house in game. To me, this would help all parties involved. The company would make more money, people who did not want farm or have the time to farm could make gil, and people in game could get the items if they wanted if they had excess gil. To me, this would also lower the chances of people buying in game currency. However, I do feel that people should be rewarded with some type of point system as they purchase from the cash shop, like I have seen in many f2p models. So people can be rewarded with a system that either gives points to spend on exclusive stuff or a system that unlocks exclusive stuff for purchasing in the cash shop.

Let me know what you all think of the idea.

This game isn't F2P, though.
I don't like the idea of exclusive stuff JUST for purchasing exclusive stuff already..

Also, stupid idea. It would increase RMT if anything because you can bet that cash shop clothes and mounts would (at minimum) be sold for tens of millions of gil and some people (the same dipsh...lovely customers...who support RMTs in the first place) would just go that route if the gil was cheaper than SE's cash shop. The idea for getting points for cash shop items is horrible too. That creates a special rabbit hole of pyramid scheme nonsense that would push the game further and further towards F2P territory. So no. It's not great as it is, but this would only make things worse.

As RyuRoots said in the thread, anything that could bring the game closer to a F2P game is a BIG no in my book. So, many thumbs down from me.

A stupid idea is deciding not to introduce or cripple features because of RMT. Look at the mail system, yeah you dont get RMT mail but you dont get mail at all! All the mail is used for is getting your vet rewards. It's too much hastle to fired someone just so you can send a mail. Something an RMT doesn't mind doing to get sale.

Coming from SWTOR where this was "doable", as RyuRoots mentioned, it did increase the RMT situation. This is because generally on SWTOR, any item that was received from one of the packs sold for millions of in game currency. This caused players to choose RMT as a means to get the item they want since the in game currency is cheaper to buy then the packs themselves. I know this is not exactly the same since it is a guaranteed item in FFXIV, but it could still potentially perpetuate the RMT economy.

It's a good thought, in theory, but in practice (in my experience) it doesn't work too well.

I like the idea overall, but not the point system for purchasing extra. As a monthly sub game, I feel it is lame that there are items which can only be purchased via a cash shop.

I disagree, I think this would help with RMT. I think there would be a lot of market forces which would drive down the prices of RMT and the items on the market board. Theoretically, this would make RMT less profitable and could potentially cease. It would also, as the OP suggested, add a legit way of purchasing gil with real world money.

Conversely, similar solutions have reduced RMT in games like Guild Wars 2 and Wildstar (at least I rarely if ever had RMT requests in either game, with 1k hours on Guild Wars 2).

I mentioned the point system for when you're already buying stuff to try and counter the desire of buying from RMT since if you just buy from the shop and sell an item for in game money, you're working towards something else you might want.

As for the game being pushed towards F2P because of my suggestion, I'm not seeing where people are getting the idea. I was merely mentioning what some games do when you buy from the cash shop. The reality of the situation is, the cash shop isn't going anywhere even if the subscription numbers hit 1k. I'm just looking for a middle ground since some people don't like to farm and some people have more in game money than they can spend, so it kind of appeals to both.

There was also the potential problem that the development team will actually waste time making stuff for the cash shop, which I feel items in the cash shop should appear at last once in game (like during an event) before they head to the cash shop.

Ah, that is great news to hear it has worked! Perhaps it is because it was out of control for a while during the Shadow of Revan era of the game. I am glad to hear it is successful in other games. I think it's lovely that someone can save up the gil they earn to purchase an item that may potentially be unobtainable given their financial position.

That is you then. I use the mail system all the time, me and my friends are always sending gifts and notes back and forth via email as surprises and leave messages when the other isn't online.

Just because you don't make use of it does not mean it is not used by the players.

You CAN gift things in the cash shop...
? Or did they remove that?
EDIT: No the GIFT A FRIEND button is still in there.

You can already gift items to players. There is a purchase as gift button, you get a claim code that you give to the person you want to have the item and they go to the mog station, enter the code and get the item in moogle mail in game.
