More than seeing the addition of new skills or tweaking of older PvP skills, I'd rather they overhaul the entire Skill Tree system so that it's not so inefficient and annoying.
- 1. PVP loudouts should be entirely separate from PvE loadouts.
They should not share the same Hotbar setups. If you make a PvP louadout (maybe specified with gear, or even just a different character tab), you should get a completely fresh set of hotbars. That way we don't have to worry about losing valuable Hotbar real estate for each job we like to PvP with. It would also save us from having to work around or modify our PvE hotbars each time we're in the mood to play some PvP.
- 2. The PvP Skills menu should be a flow chart which is divided by Job type.
You should not have to actually have your character change jobs just to see which skills are available to each. It's annoying and inefficient. You should just be able to alternate though tabs, or even just go down the list. All skills should be easy to view, and Traits should be separate, since they are the same for every job regardless of what it is.
- 3. This one is tied to both 1 and 2, and is pretty darn important. ALL SKILL POINTS SHOULD BE TIED TO SPECIFIC PVP LOUDOUTS.
There is nothing more annoying than changing your job, and then having to reset all of your PvP action points so you can reallocate them for the new job you're using. That's crap. Skill points should be tied to a loud out. That way, when you change from Drk to Drg, for example, your skillpoints automatically reallocate themselves to the saved settings you had previously set up. No more manually going through the list each time you're in the mood to play a different job. You should just be able to swap and be good to go. This should have been a thing a long time ago (like, back when FL was first introduced and they allowed us to change jobs in duty).
Fix these things first, then we can talk about adding new skills with each subsequent set of Ranks.
I cannot hit the Like button enough times on Februs' post. Especially the last one. I almost always join as WHM but if we have too many healers I swap and if others do the same it sometimes takes us a while to balance ourselves on the right jobs - and as though I don't have enough to do at the start, I then don't have some very important PVP skills boosted and ready. If I join In Progress it's just impossible. It needs fixing.
In Patch 3.2, we're planning to make it possible so players can redistribute PvP action points easier.
While we understand players would like to store the PvP actions separately on each class/job, this would require a lot of resources and time to do. Therefore, to address this for now we're looking into making it possible to redistribute points more smoothly.
Oh lord. NO MORE SKILLS pls! We don't have enough keybindings. Also, you have to consider players who use a controller. Too many skills will make it harder to efficiently use skills and slow down the overall gameplay. In fact, I wish they would eliminate and merge some skills.
I don't have an issue with key-binds at all on controller. *shrug*
We get what? 8 tabs with 16 slots per tab on controllers and gamepads? That's 128 slots and if I took my emotes and macros off I'd barley be using 3 of them. My main Job Skills only take 2 per class and my PvP skills and frequently used actions (Chocobo, Port, Return, ect) would only take one by them selves. I even have enough room to completely dedicate one bar to Gear Sets for my classes. So at the moment Space isn't an issue on controllers. Still got two entire tabs with nothing but emotes on them.
You don't have pre-set hot bars for PvP? I do, and it's pretty much the only reason I'd ever be concerned for my available hot bar space.
My PvE and PVP rotations are very different, and I set my hot bars up accordingly to provide maximum efficiency (burst for PvP/max dps for PvE). I like to swap between 4 different jobs (currently thinking about a 5th) while I PvP, depending on what my mood is. Each PvP burst rotation which utilizes PvP moves gets it's own hot bar to improve speed and efficiency in matches. Those hotbars are not tied to the job, so they are up all the time regardless of what job I'm running on. That means that, at any given time, I have 6 - 7 out of my 8 hot bars filled up to accommodate for maximum efficiency while preforming my PvP/PvE rotations.
Technically, I should only be using 3-4. I could easily just use one PvP hot bar, but it's a PAIN IN THE BUTT to reconstruct my PvP hotbar each time I'm in the mood to play a different job in PvP. Clearing a hot bar, going into my Abilities/Job Actions/PvP Actions tabs and reconstructing that hot bar from scratch is annoying. It's easier just to keep a distinct hotbar up for each job that I like to PvP with, but that takes up space.
Glad to finally see a community team response on a PvP issue. Whereas, it is still a little disappointing that we won't be getting the ability to separately store Action Points for different jobs, it is good to hear that the developers are at least looking into an adjustment of some kind.
Btw, I think traits really ought to be removed. They were a trap of uselessness even in ARR.
The only class I playisa warrior, and all warrior skills are cast-able while moving. In a pvp situation, I prefer to have absolute control over my character at all situations, and thus, I don't like to use the d-pad to hit skills buttons because that would require me to remove my thumb from the left analog stick--causing me to lose control over my movement for a brief second or two. So I have all my skills on the portion of the cross bar which are trigger-able by hitting the face buttons square, circle, triangle and X. At level 60, and counting PVP skills, cross action, and sprint/limit break, I think the warrior has about 40 skills. Not to mention potions or other items to maximize dps bursts. This mapped out across 6 (7 actually for other reasons) action cross bars. The remaining two I use for companion/chocobo stances, two emotes for leves, and miscellany.
With my set up, I can run around like a monkey and hit all my skills without ever taking my thumb off the left analog stick.
I don't want that to change...
And besides, isn't 40 or so buttons enough? Depth of gameplay should be increased by making the underlying mechanics reward higher skilled play (timing, correct skill choice given a situation, etc) and not more buttons.
If anything, I think they can maybe combine and remove some buttons. For example, is Unchained really necessary? Also, there's 6 buttons to do the warriors 3 combos which end in either butcher's block, vengeance, or storm's eye. This can be reduced to 4 buttons in the following way:
*make hitting heavy swing a second time result in skull sunder.
*make hitting heavy swing a third time result in butcher's block.
*make hitting maim a second time result in vengeance.
So,
to do the butcher's combo you would: heavy swing X 3
to do the vengeance combo you would: heavy swing, maim X 2
to do the eye of the storm combo you would: heavy swing, maim, eye of the storm
You don't need a separate button for:
1. butcher's block,
2. skull sunder, or
3. vengeance
This change doesn't reduce skill level required to play... cuz let's face it, hitting a,b,c doesn't require any skill...
BUT it does reduce clutter, and allows for a better focus on the aspects of the combat system that does require skill - like timing and option selects.
It's storms path not vengeance. The amount of skills is fine for my Warrior on Ps4, no need for extra shortcuts they fit onto 2 hotbars easily enough.
tank hotbars are the easiest lol. first two images are swapped by just pressing R1. third image is extended hotbars

Yes storms path my mistake. But u didn't read my post. If u store skills on left side u need to stop movement to hit skills. I don't want that
Even without clawing, its simple. outside from flash they are all ogcd, taking a second to stop moving to hit a buff. Also it will be some time before you could use them again. Unless you stop in a mid-cast aoe, the time it takes for your thumb to hit a button and be back on the analog is trivial. Of course you can get something like the avenger reflex and not have to worry about that
I prefer the right thumb shuffle ^.^
