Red Mage nuff said

Red mage
Role: Caster DPS
weapon: Rapier

Damage scale on INT, but uses a regular 1,2,3 combo (melee). OGC skills consist of insta cast small magic spells and/or buffs.

Job mechanic: 2 buffs/stances white magic ritual & black magic ritual. Each are instacast and work for 20-30 seconds with a recast time of 60 seconds.
White magic ritual: changes INT to MND and changes the basic 1,2,3 combo skills to cure, regen and esuna? (or 3 other healign ability's u get the idea)
Black magic ritual: changes the basic 1,2,3 combo skills to black magic (no insta casts).

White magic should be weaker ofc then regular healers but still good enough to save an o-shit moment.
Black magic should be the jobs uptime dmg wise.

This way you get a support role that actively changes the playstyle. I think this fits perfectly into the game as it is right now.

Yes, which is why they have a search function. Advanced Search > Titles only > 'Red Mage'.
May also want to 'search for threads with more than <10> replies', use the 'Red Mage' tag, and limit search to English Forums

I think the Healer Stance would be very under-utilized on a DPS, especially considering most content now-a-days focuses on maximizing DPS and parties already having a dedicated healer or two.
I might suggest something like a Buffing Stance and a Debuffing Stance that effect their spells and skills and just giving the RDM a healing spell/skill, a revive, and/or an Esuna.

I believe Red Mage would be nice, and it should focus on Intellect.
However, I don't think their Spells should be all Instant off the bat.
Instead, I believe certain 1-2-3 combos should cause the next spell to be instant.
In some cases it may be any spell, in other cases it may be one or more specific spells.
It would definitely need to have Double Cast ability on a considerable cooldown causing the next spell to be cast twice.

It might require a new class to be introduced as well - Fencer - and Require 30 Thaumaturge 15 Fencer.

Several Thaumaturge Spells should be cross-class exclusively for Red Mage, perhaps Fire III and whatnot.

That would be easily solved by adding a "Cleric Stance" ability to Red Mage, mandatory for dealing competitive DPS, applying a boost to magic damage and considerable penalty to Healing, establishing his Healing as secondary just like damage is for White Mages.

To be a Jack of all trades Red Mage would need to have a Healer, DPS, and Tank stance. As in past games Red Mages could use light shields and weapons, wear light armor, as well as cast medium level white and black magic. Although I really see Red Mage being another support class focusing on buffing party members with older spells like Temper or even spells that boost elemental resistance. Hard to say how they'll do Red Mage at this point.

Jack of all trades doesn't really work in any kind of group content. As neat as a generalist is, specialists are vastly preferred. Even in the vaunted FF XI, Red Mage were pushed into a being Mana Battery specialist in group content. We already know and have seen proven that people will drop the Tank/Healer role in order to increase Raid DPS.

The arguments are the same as they were a year ago. The counter-arguments are the same. Why would anyone bring 50%-75% of a pure damage dealer that can spot heal when they could just bring a pure damage dealer and clear the encounter before the healing would be needed?

I have a feeling Red Mage is going to be a tanking job. Yoshi said in a live letter long ago that he had plans of adding Red Mage but it wouldn't be what we expected.

I would like to see Red Mage as the class and Blue Mage as the job. And, make it a dps class with a temporary hlr and a Double cast cool downs, a melee combo, and a cqc stun or silence.

You'd have to use the AST caveat for Sects and disable switching mid-combat. Otherwise you end up with an overpowered job.

Higher HP pools, and don't have them able to permanently resist enfeeblemebts. I don't mind making the immune to some but every fight will need atleast some.

So then you create a chance where Dia+haste with BRD TP. Can increase raid DPS and not personal DPS. Make it so when you replace a support with just another DPS yes that slot is DPSing more but raid DPS suffers.

Make the bosses hit harder and more often so keeping up paralyze/slow/Dia/blind/ is a necessity.

But then RDM would mandatory in raids? That could be the birth of the support job. It just takes changing the boss/trash formula. Which is do-able IMO.

Not to mention making dispel/slow ect a necessity will bring more importance and diversity to things like one Ilm punch, and that Drg slow move(forgot name: feint?) other jobs will become more complex and have layers added to them.

Perhaps they could introduce support roll in 4.0. I don't understand why everyone is so afraid of this idea. Old content? Can change it and buff it to accomadate.

I believe the correct definition of Red Mage is "Jack of all Trades, Master of Enfeebling magic"

which we have a small issue with at the moment, in that most of the +49 mobs are immune to a lot of the enfeebs eg BLM - sleep which is pretty much useless after lvl 49

If SE are going to put a Magic welding paper tank into the game i would rather it be Rune Fencer
while I would love to see RDM as DPS, i fear that SE will make it a healer/support Job

anyone got ideas for RDM that are not overpowered or break the trinity system (in that the job conforms to 1 of the three roles and not all of them) that are true to RDM?
i would love to see what SE have in mind.

throw this in as another issue with bringing RDM to FFXIV the way the community want it

make Red Mage a class that is DPS but uses MP rather then TP , sort of like DRK but not as tankiee. Make it so they can enchant their rapier with magic before fights
