Enmity Mechanics?

What do you guys think of more raids/trials that had enmity mechanics?

Maybe a debuff that targets DPS that triples their enmity for 15 seconds. Or a boss move that ignores the first 3 people on enmity list for a period of time. Basically requiring tanks/dps to juggle the enmity list appropriately to pass the phase.

Hate it? Love it?

Because variety is the spice of life? New mechanics add new life.

We actually do have bosses that do things like aggro reset, or to ignore aggro for certain moves and just use them on whoever they want (or at least had, no idea if they were removed with the giant nerf-fest 3.1 was).

But honestly, most tanks can't even properly hold hate without any of these. If something like your ideas got implemented, it would have to be in hardcore raids with dedicated groups, not in content you do with random pugs.

There are also aggro ignoring mechanics as well. Gilgamesh when some players have been mini'd, for example. Or aggro priority: BCOB Turn 5 back then for those who did the 2-tank strategy.

As for the more "new and fresh" idea, this only punishes players who strife for maximum performance and won't be an issue when the party has a great tank and terrible DPS/healers. Or rather, it only punishes min-maxers and doesn't affect "I play how I want" players much at all.

I think I would like something like this. A boss fight or primal that is more focused on hitting the mechanics right instead of just dpsing the hell out of it. Could be fun. Could be a train wreck.

Sounds less fun and more annoying.

Maximizing damage is pretty much a thing in every piece of content currently. Don't be afraid of actual difficult mechanics beyond muscle memory rotations.

What exactly makes "triple enmity" difficult? All it does is act as a hindrance to throttle down someone's damage output if anything. With how DPS driven the encounters are, throttling down DPS isn't even helping on that part. In fact, it's counter intuitive to have a DPS mechanic in an encounter (hard enrages or even at specific DPS checks) while being forced to stop or slow down the output. What if a healer gets it? This would just generate pointless stressful issues, rather than difficulty. The only one who would be somewhat immune to this would be White Mage. Astrologian and Scholars would have the biggest issue would (pointless) increased threat generation. Monks among the DPS would suffer the most from this kind of gimmick with dragoons being the least affected. Ninja may actually benefit from this, but this would simply make bringing Ninja's (or even two depending on frequency) mandatory. Ergo: Increased enmity mechanics is more of a nuisance than an increase in difficulty.

The obvious strategy against it wouldn't be to stop/slow dps or healing, it would be to use abilities that lower threat. Like Lyrica said, that would only lead to certain classes becoming mandatory for the content.

When monks are given an ability equal to either qualling or elusive then sure, but that'd be a simple "oh I got this thing on me, gotta remember to pop this skill now" (or after if you're dragoon) so how does that increase difficulty. Would just make ninja mandatory if it's a dps check fight with frequent enmity modifiers thrown on dps classes. Say bye bye to monks.

A mechanic where the OT has to try and shift themselves down to be #4 in the hate list ready for a mechanic sounds like a sh*tstorm waiting to happen. Imagine this in DF
