I don't understand Lord of Verminion at all...

I got through the tutorial and I understand I have to destroy the crystals, but I send a bunch of my minions to the shield to disable it, and they just sit there doing nothing. This game seems incredibly frustrating. Anyone else finding it that way or is it just me?:confused:

When destroying the structures, the minions don't actually do anything, but they are slowly chipping away at it so long as the enemy isn't defending it as well. If they're in the red/blue square in front of the structure (or ring for crystals) they should be doing something.

The shield though, in my experience, takes a long time to destroy. The best way to destroy it is with a groups special, I think the Red Panda is what I've been using; Four of those together, power up their special, and it knocks 70% off the shield, done again and the shield is destroyed.

i'm @ challenge 5 and i pnly got a handful of minions. :) My only dislike is 100mpg to join and only get 150 back. should lower the cosr or raise the reward.

And the goobue minion is good it does aoe attacks. that and seeing a ton of tiny goobue take on the guildhest guebue was HILARIOUS

I don't really get it either. I mean, I get the basic structure (which reminds me a lot of Age of Empires, go in and destroy their defenses and then their base kinda thing), but I was never good at AoE. XD

My boyfriend has been playing it a lot (he really wants mini Twintania), but he doesn't have many monster minions and he says not having the options make it really hard, even in the early games.

I have tons of minions to choose from and the whole thing is kind of overwhelming for me. I can barely manage looking at A/B/C gates and the summoning costs, then my brain crashes when trying to figure in special attacks, minion types, and all their strength-against stats.

I can only imagine how terrible I would be at actual Lord of Vermillion.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I wouldn't mind if they brought these things in gradually, once we get the hang if different exercises, but after the tutorial it sort of plops you down like "Here, go figure it out! -100 MGP -100 MGP -100 MGP"

Me neither, but I'm winning just through zerging it.

I have no idea how to tell how close minions are to being able to use their special so I haven't been paying attention to that. Looked for a bar or something and couldn't find it.

I think that the action bar being so huge makes the game a little confusing, because from my experience you only really need to use a few different minions. I almost wish they'd restrict us to like 6-12 minions? Maybe it's harder to balance that way.

I try to have some minions that are good against shields and the crystals, and a couple of each type. I'd say just look at what your minions are good against, and what abilities they have and experiment against other people in the non-RP mode. Don't try to spawn a million DIFFERENT minions all the time, sometimes it's just better to have a bunch of the same one (and easier to manage, because if you know that your mandragora is good against shields, for example, having a bunch of them out there means you know which of your minions to send after their shields). I found myself splitting my minions into a couple of groups, and would try to have minions near the middle to attack enemy crystals, but also to intercept any of their minions coming at my crystals, gates or shields.

I feel like as long as you're paying attention to your opponent and not JUST going for their crystals or playing defensively you should be okay. I only played a few rounds against players, won 2/3, so my strategy may be bad and I just got lucky, I don't know.

I found it pretty straightforward honestly. It's a game that's going to take lots and lots of practice to learn how to do properly. It's a RTS (real-time strategy) type game. It's all about math, tactics, and multi-tasking. You're playing a general leading your troops into battle. RTS games aren't for everyone though, as they take various skillsets not needed in your modern day MMO and FPS games (which are widely more popular due to how simplistic they are compared to the RTS genre). It's like a brains vs brawns thing.

The game design just uses some shorthands, when you attack the shield/eye you have to have the minions stand on the red pulsating platform next to the shield and they will "attack" it. It does feel janky at first but when you realize that it's honestly not that tough to comprehend.

I've never played a game like it before, and I had trouble in the TUTORIAL. It would tell me to press a button on my controller and nothing would happen. Then when it told me to use the mini bombs to blow up a shield, I pUT the bombs on the shield, but took so long figuring it out that the tutorial timed out before I could discover the mystical special attack to make them do anything. I'm slightly bummed out at the complexity. While I didn't want something like Wows pet battles again, I also didn't want something that made my head hurt. I will go back and try again though.

From the sounds of it, they need a better (and free!) tutorial to help people get the hang of it, before layering on the challenges.

I think I'll put off trying this for a few weeks, let some other kind soul figure out how it all works and write a better tutorial guide here on the forums :D

use 2 bombs to break their defense and thats pretty much it

I'm pretty sure I'm in love with Verminion. After first unlocking it, I played it for at least an hour or two straight. I would have played longer, but I forced myself to go check out some of the other content....

My only real problem with it is that the controls on PS4 are a bit iffy at times, particularly when trying to group minions or activate specials on a specific minion within a group. It may prove to be better as I get more used to it, but it certainly seems like PC players have a bit of an early advantage in this regard.....

Aside from that, is it just me, or does NPC zerg rush tactics work far better than when players use them. I have a strategy that works fairly well when playing against players that use such tactics, but when the NPCs use essentially the same methods, it seems like the only way to keep from being decimated are by using the same/similar methods. In particular, the mission against the Courls/Wolf Pups seemed unduly difficult if you didn't hit them with the same tactic the NPC was using, and even then was a bit hit and miss......

Did you happen to figure out how to do this? I did the tutorial so many times last night and got stuck on this same issue each time. I would put them on the shield and nothing would happen. I tried pressing the big red button for their special attack and they still just bobbed around the shield doing nothing. Eventually, the tutorial would just time out and I'd lose my MGP :( Any help would be appreciated!

The problem with Lords of Verminion, despite its simplified form, the concept is derived from that which is obviously Lords of Vermillion. The game itself isn't easy to do at all even with Tutorial. It's something you just have to keep playing and getting practice in until you get a feel for your minions, actions, etc. Only then when you have battled enough and with that understanding, you will easily wash through the minigame we have now~

It is overwhelming at first to get into but don't give up! I recommend doing AI stage 2 over until you feel more confident. It's very overwhelming, especially if you have a huge pool of minions, but you'll find yourself comfortably using only a small handful that you prefer anyway.

For the AI challenges at least, some tips that might help you get into it:
For the non-boss challenges, I recommend using your initial 60 cost to create 6 minions at Gate C that are strong against Arcana Stones (Mammets, Mummy's Little Mummy, Minion of Light (Warrior)). Have them go straight to the enemy's right-most crystal as in most of the matches they leave that side of the field ignored at first. They should go unhindered and quickly bring down the crystal, then just have them sweep right to left smashing the other crystals.
Once the game has started, press R2 (don't know kb command) to view your opponent's minions and see what type they are (critter, monster, poppet, gadget). Whichever they're spawning, create your own minions that counter them (Critter > Poppet > Monster > Critter, Gadget no str/weak) and use them to defend your left and middle stones while your starter crew takes their crystals from under their nose. This won't be foolproof in the later stages, but it is very effective, and you'll almost always get that first crystal down without a hitch.

Generally I've found there's not much point attacking the other points like the shields in these AI games, but they will be important in PVP.

For controller holding down triangle selects everything you pass over until you release it, so it's basically your left-click and drag selection. I think the most annoying thing on controller is pressing right stick in to switch gates.

You need at least 4 of the same minion together to use their special move. When their icon in your list in the upper right is flashing it's charged up and ready to go. If their skill has an aoe you will see its radius when you highlight it (L1+direction to navigate list, L1+Square to activate skill.)

You'll hear people rave about Hildibrand minion, and he is very strong, but keep in mind the high summoning cost.

Also, when enemies are in your arcana stone range, or vice versa, the minions will always prioritise enemy minions to the arcana stone.

I know that's a random mishmash of info but I hope it's helpful.

There's a whole rock paper scissor theme to it and it just does not add up. I'm on the Mandragora challenge now and I'll send in Monsters with High ATT and DEF to defend my stones against their mandies and a small group of weak Mandy's (which are critters, so are supposed to be weaker than monsters) just decimate the group. Then they take down the arcana stones like they were nothing and they don't even use the 5% dmg to arcana stone or any other moves. Meanwhile my 2 armies of black cats barely make a dent in their arcana stones even with the 5% dmg boosts.
Edit: yes I know about strenghts and weaknesses on minions as well.

It's not actually regenerating. I'm not sure why they made it like that, but each arcana stone has a bunch of health bars, so when you deplete one, it will switch to the next health bar. The total health of a stone can be seen at the top of the screen.

That's because it's how it works in Lords of Vermillion. It has "Multiple bars" of health to indicate the phases of each break down of the Arcana Stone. Which I think is either 3-4. I forgot the exact number.

I think it just obfuscates the actual health of the stones. I mean the health bars over the stones mean very little, only the overall health matters. I guess it gives some satisfaction in that it feels like the health is dropping faster.

It's best to think of the overall healthbar on top of the screen as three separate healthbars for each arcana stone, that just happen to be stacked end-to-end. You'll get a better idea of what the 'true' HP of an arcana stone is and how far away you are from really killing one, which will help you make better decisions.

Each arcana stone is worth 1/3 of the whole bar, and each stone's 1/3 share of the bar is specific to that stone only.

So if someone starts hitting your middle stone for example, instead of the overall healthbar depleting from it's proper end, you'll see it getting chipped away starting from the two-thirds portion to the one-third portion (look for the flashing stripe), and you'll know that stone is on it's last legs when that stripe is about to hit the end of that respective third.

They added an RTS game to an RPG game because of a joke made over a year ago. Then they spent who knows how much of their development budget on a mini-game that almost no-one wants to play. It's also almost unplayable on a controller, even if I did want to play it. I'm back to alternate month subs, just to keep my housing which I will keep doing for around three subs and then I'm probably out.
