Not surprised that a person maining PLD would make something like this.
Take that for what you will.
I wouldn't necessary say PLD is dead, but it has its issues. Unfortunately, the current theme of top endgame is strict dps checks and that's PLD's weakness so people will obviously bring a DRK/WAR over it.
Also the tp bleed is too insane on PLD
Nah. That's just for the vocal minority who think absolute performance is more important than being your role.
I am not a Warrior. I am not a Dark Knight. I am a Paladin, the Rock upon which Darkness breaks...
:)
IMO everyone just stop playing this job if it is broken. SE will fix it ONLY if ppl not playing it. ^^;
When this job is fixed, everyone will play this job again and you have missed the chance to enjoy the overpower of other jobs.
I'll take it a step further and point out how really selfish this sounds when listened to in a certain context. He wants to be the star of the show and envies other people their loot. Dat awkward subtext.
Plds have cleared A4s at this point. If you couldn't convince anyone to even bring you into A1s, either they're dingbats, in which case you're fine without them, or the problem lies with you as a player.
My healer when we first started A1s actually pushed for me to drop war for pld, because "wars are harder to heal".
That's some guy who quit because he couldn't cut it end game, has nothing to do with PLD. This new patch is looking pretty good for PLD. Shield Swipe changes will make up for their lack of enmity in Sword oath while increasing overall MT DPS, and the TP reduction on Goring will help extend their TP in all situations.
I still enjoy pld as a subjob. People in df get so confused when I try to say I would rather OT because pld OT with war/drk MT is more raid damage. XD It's the state of the class atm. It isn't good or alright, but it is what it is. The class can still perform at cutting edge levels when working as a part of a whole with a ninja and drk MT, and its defensive cd's can let a smart party cheese mechanics they can't with another comp.
Even without full team cooperation, if you just try it's easy to outdps a lot of df tanks. Most people would rather just hang it up and pout than try to excel, though.
Because PLD in Sword Oath is pretty even in DPS when compared to a DRK while taking noticeably less physical damage. They were mostly limited before due to lack of hate forcing them to use Rage of Halone, now they have increased hate & DPS through Shield Swipe moving to oGCD. The reason for not shoving a WAR into the MT slot is obviously that DRK/PLD see a damage bonus where WAR does not. LB building will become more of an issue in future raids where they intend to reduce the success of parties who stack jobs.
That's some high-level over-dramatization. Paladins are below the other tanks, Paladins have a lot of issues, but Paladins are still able to clear the content. This thing sounds like the job is completely unplayable, useless and unable to do anything at the point where the character is suiciding. That's some emo disney princess shit.
You guys might be over-reacting to the Voice Acting.
That's all it is, voice acting and venting his frustrations. Don't take it so seriously, the guy isn't gonna kill himself over this. Honestly I think someone talked to him and he's happy as ever with PLD, hyped even.
Still playing paladin through all of this. Has it's issues, but still able to clear everything in game. Put as much effort in to winning as you do in to crying and you may get better results.
The whole thing is very clearly roleplaying for the immersion.....it amazes me that people are shitting on the guy, meanwhile they themselves are smothered in power fantasies and their suspension of disbelief is so strong that they ACTUALLY believe that in the real world a huge axe or tower sword would be somehow effective in combat.
The heaviest a weapon like an axe or sword EVER weighed was around 8 pounds (greatsword or not.) It's also hilarious that people consider an ancient smooth bore rifle projectile design to be even remotely close to piercing like its modern day Boat Tail Tungsten Tip equivalent. Ball rounds, like those found in muskets (smooth bore,) relied on sheer velocity to tear through an object.and left cavities the size of the round. They were in no way an efficient means of ending someone's life quickly. Coincidentally ball rounds also weren't (and still aren't) at all great for anything over light armor penetration (an example of light armor would be SAPI Plates that the various armed forces use for their infantry personnel.) Heavy armor in today's world that's equivalent to plated mail of medieval times would be something like AR500 steel. You can shoot hundreds, maybe even thousands of "small arms" rounds into this heavy armor and it won't show any signs of failure to protect. If you're wondering, small arms is a term used for what today's infantry units posses on their body (M4, M16,M200, M40, M249 SAW, etc.) The pistols MCH use are appropriately considered to be small arms.
Again, guys, it's just roleplaying. Fantasy for fun. It's not fun to shit on people for having fun and developing character depth, backstory, immersive plot relevance for speeches, etc.
EDIT: Fucking literally has #Storytelling, #Voice Acting, #Narrative as descriptive contextual clues to his content.
EDITII: An M200 weapons system is most certainly not small arms. It's an anti-material rifle that fires .408 Cheyenne cartridges. My apologies for the mistake. I meant to say M40 since it's a .308/7.62 cartridge. Nomenclature is hard lol.

He shares our pain
Hitler bought every Paladin Eso piece (which means he probably hasn't even passed A1S) and is complaining about being a detriment to Savage parties in 3.1.
Remember kids, Hitler was a bad guy.
It's funny how you knew this beforehand. I hope you tried PLD post patch in savage. Not much has changed. Yes there is a slight DPS increase, but that's really about it. There are so many good suggestions made to make PLD feel alive. Unforunately it has not been the case.
The only positive thing I could find is that PLD is very good for the new primal.
The way I see it is just that paladins about being left behind at this moment. Yes we can still clear content and yes we can do savage 4 but that was with a few weeks of extra gear right?. we're still getting left behind due to the current state of the meta. This to Paladin players just sucks that our class is kinda being overlooked and the other classes can do our job better. We aren't getting much in terms of a buff, Yes we got a buff but it isn't much, Yes we do fine DPS as an OT but we suffer as MT right? Yes we can still play paladin but it doesn't change that we feel a bit forgotten. We just wanna have our class up to par a bit more is all. I for one am not looking to deal 1300 dps in tanking stance I just want to feel more useful. It's frustrating to people who play it as their main class. Yea I know people are tired of these threads talking about paladin but lets be honest to end with. If warriors or dark knights where where we are they would be doing the same.
Yes it is, but the character suiciding is too much IMO and turned all of that into that disney princess emo attention-wh*re BS (and this is coming from someone whose best friend suicided, in case someone gets offended, I'm not criticizing the act of suicide, but here, it just doesn't work). It would have been more honorable for an actual "Paladin" to just walk away and go on a journey out of Eorzea to find people he could be helpful to. Suicide is actually an act of extreme desperation, someone whose pain took over everything. A true Paladin wouldn't suicide. A true Paladin always looks for people to protect, to serve and always have faith and an unbreakable will. Also, this character is caring too much about himself. About him being strong, about him being undesired, etc... All the way till the end, where he suicides. It makes the character look more like a selfish fag crying salty tears of jealousy over his bloodthirsty Dark Knight and Warrior friends than anything a true Paladin would be. It's an interesting but failed RP attempt.
That would be fine, if AS wasn't designed in such a way that pushing DPS to the max got you through it in the optimum way. Don't get me wrong; dps checks are fine. But tank dps should be a secondary or tertiary concern when designing encounters. 1 encounter (or maybe even 2) would be fine in this manner. But almost of the encounters in AS require not just good damage dealer dps BUT ALSO good tank dps & good healer dps.
It would be one thing if there was 1 boss more suited to playing PLD (not that being a PLD was required), 1 boss more suited to playing DRK, 1 more boss more suited to playing WAR. A good mix of those would be solid. Problem is, I think SE is still figuring out how to fit DRK into the mix, after 2.XX only had WAR & PLD for so long.
Yeah, I was kinda '......' at that part myself to be honest. At first I thought he was gonna chuck his sword and shield over the edge and walk away, which is dramatic without stepping over into emo territory. I get that the author was venting (I've done my fair share about the issue myself, both on the forums and to my static) but yea. It started off alright but just got whiny.
Not all stories are good, I suppose, just like I don't enjoy every painting in existence.
