Hello, for everyone too lazy to dig into the previous thread, Bayohne, our beloved malboro community rep, delivered unto us a post from Yoshi-p about the dye system and coloured gears.
This thread has been made specifically so people can voice their wishes in regards to the two possible solutions proposed, namely

The reasons that we have encountered our current problems are:
・The color variations currently set up for each gear item are not uniform
・The colors have been prepared using textures, so more colors cannot be prepared
・In terms of data, the same items with different colors are treated as different items, so it is difficult to add additional colors
・Eventually, gear stats and color will be re-implemented as unrelated entities (data will be eased through a Color ID system)
・We wanted to allow crafters to create items with different stats by altering similar recipes
Our biggest mistakes were implementing colored items although the colors were not uniform and mixing colors with the concept of allowing crafters to create similar items with different stats. We should have spent more time developing these specs, and I apologize for the mistakes.
There are 2 ways we can fix our mistakes.
1. Add recipes for “Finished product + Dye” and add items for each additional color
⇒This is a temporary solution, but color and stats will be clearly separated
⇒The only problem is that it will take a long time to add all of the items
2. Remove class restrictions for colored gear until the Color ID system is ready
⇒The number of items will not increase greatly, so this could be implemented more quickly
⇒Stats will have to be sacrificed for color choices (this can be balanced by Materia)
We are considering the costs of the above two solutions.
Personally, I prefer the 1st solution, but it would be implemented with patch 1.20 in this best case scenario, so at least until then, the current situation will continue.
(This will also negatively affect our ability to add other content and recipes)
The 2nd solution cannot be implemented in time for patch 1.19a, but it can be implemented soon after.
(We are looking into the cost of this solution as well)

I personally vote option 2, i'd prefer taking the minor stat hit from the coloured versions being unlocked, rather than have to wait til 1.20 minimum for option 1, and have to struggle through with the minimal amount of gear we have.
So, Option 1 or Option 2?

Like I said before, none of them. They should disregard any temporary fixes and focus on what they are trying to push out of 1.20-1.21
If they can get this Color ID System out within those patches, then props to them, but in the meantime, leave things the way they are for now, because heaven forbid they try to fix something now, another issue surfaces. (Ex. Loss of materia that is attached to specific armors.) -

Didn't their "Eorzea / making of a realm" promotional video elaborate for 10 minutes on how easy-peasy it was to recolor and modify gear? Are they now telling us: "Yes, it's easy to *make* new gear, but you'll never see it implemented because of the data load!" ?!?
This. It's a beta anyway, so no need to temp-fix the beta if it delays the substantially improved product. For a few months, I can live with my pink gaiters.Quote:

I'm fine with 2, yeah i'd love new colors but i'd rather have new equipment and content then seeing characters running around wearing colors that make them look like Christmas lights.

Basic thoughts are :
- Any Gear can be a selection of colours. So it is purely about looks.
- Style/material effects stats (some how the material is shown by some section that Can not be dyed that is clearly visible but not more so then the main dyed areas.)
(things with toad skin leather have a specific brown to there straps, same for sheep, steel, copper ect..)
- Gems/Decoration show If it has a Bonus to elemental resists.
- GC's Have exclusive Dyes (item is then locked to members of that company only)
Oh and i am 100% against any sort of Temp Fix, its wasted time and resources.
Get the final project finished ASAP, not spend weeks on some 1/2 job where we will lose all that gear a few months on anyway. -

They can easily create new gear but the game as it is right now probably treats "Blue hat X" as its own item, whereas in order for freeform dying and customization to happen they have to rework the way the game works so that it treats it as "Hat X" and applies blue to it.Quote:

Either put it back the way it was or fix it. Leaving it as they made it now is not acceptable to me. They should have waited to push a change to this until they were ready with the correct system. The correct fix is number 1 and that is what should happen. Half assing it has proven time and again in XIV to be a bad decision. Let's not continue down that road. We are supposed to learn from our mistakes, not repeat them.
