Thought devs confirmed working on new chapters?
Hildibrand wasn't an 'every update' thing. Understand that when crafting Hildibrand they've planned 3 installments per arc so you have to give them time. Given how genuinely funny each arc has been I can see it taking a while.
Not so excited about 3.1 anymore. Seems a mediocre patch. Relics will be in 3.15 so we have to wait more, no Hildi, only 2 new dungeons, no new primal. Hope 3.2 will be better next year.
No Hildibrand - ever again, I hope. Have not been missing him, not gonna miss him either.
My thoughts as well. His quests were the only ones I've ever actually actively started skipping cutscenes on without even watching them once. I get that he's supposed to be there for comic relief (particularly given how the MSQ can be pretty dark at times) but comic relief only works when it's, you know, actually funny. I know some people enjoy him but if there was ever any question as to whether resources should be spent on more Hildebrand stuff or literally anything else, I'd opt for anything else.
IIRC, arent they focusing on some new characters for the main-side-quest for Heavensward, instead of Hildibrand?
Tis a sad day.
The only time I'm gonna want Hildi gone is if the MSQ ever stops being so depressing to go through and starts actually being something to look forward to, rather than a roulette wheel for which useless NPC I'd gonna die next. The game kinda needs something light hearted and cheerful so it doesn't cross the wangst event horizon.
Hildibrand seems to be one of those things that some people love and some people hate.
I hate it a lot. I woudn't care that it was there if it wasn't mandatory to unlock trial roulette, but as it is, I'll rather never have it again...
But we'll have it again, for sure. FF XIV is cattering to the kind of people who likes Hildibrand, so....We'll have more Hildibrand...
Wasn't it already confirmed that Hildy wasn't showing up in the 3.0 set of patches so they could work on other side stories? I couldn't recall exactly where I saw that, though.
There is a different side story in 3.1 which wasn't mentioned in the latest live letter for some reason. It's supposed to be about the students in Ishgard attending some school or whatever. They've likened it to FFVIII. I'm not sure why they aren't talking more about it, unless the beginning of the side quest is somehow related to the MSQ. We should have the school sidequests, and more post moogle sidequests.
As for Hildebrand... did anyone do the Mor Dhona sidequests from 3.0, that feature the Doman children starting their own adventurer's guild and investigating mysteries? That storyline ended with a cliff hanger, and the plot really seemed to be Hildebrand-esque. I have the feeling they are setting up the plot of a future Hildebrand investigation, much like when we had to rub body lotion on Godbert back in 2.0.
I like the quests. Overdo it though and it could easily get old quick. They should lay off them for awhile then come back later fresh.
I enjoyed his quests in 2.1 and somewhat in 2.2... but after that, it was just the same kind of jokes and silly nonsense with him (and his dad). I did like the "reporter" and Elezen investigator, though.
Hildibrand was fine, but it kinda went downhill -for me- when I had to do his quests to re-unlock trial roulette. While it's true they got rid of that requirement it still left a sour taste in my mouth.
I missed the part when it was likened it to 8, but this makes me want it even more. Quite frankly both of these two questlines have a chance for more Hildibrand.
And for the Hildibrand haters: no, the resources spent on the questline cannot be spent on more raids or whatever because completely different people are doing those. It's not taking away dev time from anything. It is a bonus.
I'm definitely glad they're not bring him back for 3.1, his style of humour gets old real quick. I don't know how some people on here love it so much, it wore off after the 2nd quest line for me, to each their own I guess. I'm glad they're reallocating that development time to a new side series, it seems to be more on the serious side too... well, the name sounds serious.
+1 for side storyline around the doman kids ^^

I like also Hildibrand, but i think his storyline need a pause to give the story writters time for new ideas.
Moment they added the Gold Saucer, I was kinda wondering why the Hildibrand Trials weren't given their own little Roulette, which rewarded MGP...
As for Hildibrand... I don't want him back, or rather I don't want him back right away... I'd rather see brief appearances of him during various other side quests for now, similar to Wymond Mail Mog quest. Heck, that was kind of the case with his quests anyway... I'd say the Phantom Thief and Greg owned those quests more than Hildibrand, he was just there for the occasional gag, and he perhaps overstayed his welcome sometimes... Comedy is at its best when you don't repeat it ad nauseum, churn Hildibrand quests out every single update and you start killing what made him funny in the first place, IMO.
There's no need to reply the lore skippers that talks bad about Hildi, just "skip" their comments :D
Didn't SE said that they won't make it mandatory to unlock all trials/dungeons for the roulette?
Idk about ya, but I love side stories. Hildy was great. I'm hoping they expand on a few stories from the Delivery Moogle questline. Anything about siblings, always gets me really into the story.
I love some haters around here that needs to buy some sense of humor to their life because they seem very unhappy, if you don't like Hildebrand good for you have a good day, but why would you not want other to have something that clearly the community loves specially some of us who really enjoyed the quest line.
And it's funny because people who say it's bad they probably didn't took the time to actually know what the story was about, skipping the CUTSCENES and not reading the dialog and then come here and bash the quest line saying it's bad....BRAVO to all of you.
Hildebrand quest line wasn't only the goofy fun that it had which is much appreciated but it was also a well crafted story that was intriguing, the mystery of the faceless thief who was always a step ahead, or the introduction of GREG aka GILGAMESH who's funny roll fit perfect with Hildebrand questline. Let's not forgot the over the top fights on the CS that step a big chunk in the quality of CS that makes me wonder why don't have over the little top fight like in Hildebrand.
But saying the "funny" gets old quick as a factor of dictating that the questline is bad, it just show how ignorant most people are and get here giving false feedback to the development team, cutting off something that a big part of our community loved.
And that goofy part of the game is very much welcome, the MSQ is very dark and everything on this game is pretty serius and dark...having a little side quest with a live hearted theme balance pretty well this game and the world itself.
I hope Hildibrand will return this expansion, but if SE is not bringing him back so they can try a new sidequests, then I am willing to wait and give it a go. I do hope they atleast bring him back next expansion.
This just in, people can't have opinions on a story. Didn't like LoTR? I bet you skipped half of it you heathen. Didn't like Star Trek? Just get out of here you ignoramus. Oh, you don't like Harry Potter? Just... Just leave.
Why is it so hard to grasp that some people have a different opinion to you? To be clear, the only part I skipped is the final arc/episode/chapter or whatever they call it.
I was basing my post on the answer of some people here, of course anyone has their opinion and likes, but to go off to say they don't want it back because they didn't like it and then said they skipped CT it's ridiculous, is not the same to state your opinion of whether you like it or not, as saying you don't want it back because you didn't like it and then claim you skipped everything and didn't payed any attention....
for that rule of 3 I'm just gonna state that 3.2 is trash* and ff should not release patches like that anymore because I skipped everything and was really short...logic...there's a way critics works and it certainly is not by skipping something you are claiming as bad.
So you expect them to sit through it all while they're absolutely not enjoying it? Now, I'm sure there's more than a few people out there who skip the story and anything to do with it, but the people complaining about the story aren't those people. They would likely read the entirety of the first (and maybe second arc) before deciding to skip it because they didn't like it. Ignore it entirely? Not possible due to the lock on Trial Roulette. Your comparison is not the best, it would be more like ignoring the season 2 of a show because you didn't like season 1, not skip an entirely new series by the same writers because you didn't like their previous work but loved everything else they put out.
Honestly, I just want a simple, non-serious questline. Be it Hildibrand, the post moogles or, if it HAS to be, the Mor Dhona children (although I have to deal with children enough in RL and would apprechiate it if I didn't have to deal with them in my quest..xD).
I'd prefer Hildibrand, but anything goes.
Maybe the Doman kids are forming the new Star Onion Brigade....no! If the S.O.B comes back, there better be more than just Hyur kids, needs more cats and Lalafells.
Are there any people that would prefer there not be any comedic side stories in 3.x at all. I know some people think true art is angsty and that they would prefer dark and serious works over more comedic and lighthearted ones, and that this expansion is...turbulent to say the least
Or do you just think that Alexander and the Illuminati make Hildibrand redundant? :P
I don't mind comedy in general. But adding an entire character (and more!) just for the sake of adding them - just to have comedy? That to me is arbitrary. Forced. Constrained and overwrought, ends up being the exact opposite of funny.
...that actually is a pretty clever way of putting it.Quote:

I would like some more hilderbrant quests please as would the bulk of people I play with. Please make it happen yoshi!
Not really concerned about them being in 3.1 particularly, just talking about in general.
While I appreciated the addition of some different content and quest variety, I personally didn't like the Hildebrand quests at all. I did them, and yes even followed all the quest text, but it was for the sake of completing it. Most people ive talked to about it will get almost offended when I say I found the quests yawn inducing. I never laughed a single time - the humor, to me, was what I call SpongeBob humor. It felt geared toward a younger audience. Hildibrands character in particular I just found annoying. I know many have enjoyed the series though so I dont condone killing it, I just never understood what people really got out of it. I had to make myself finish it.
Stop the presses folks! The answer to the great mystery is solved!
Yes, JP games are more geared to younger audiences. That's why the MC(s) is(are) usually in their teens. Very rarely will they use an adult for the role. The Adults are usually support or side characters that enhance the MC's growth in the story.
Some people just wont accept the fact (no attack to you Krazy) that this game isn't meant for everyone. There will be elements that you won't like or accept.
Thats a pretty blanket statement, that JP games are geared to younger audiences. That isnt true, as many japanese developers produce adult games; Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V to name just two recent heavy hitters. I would argue that the FF series is not really "geared to teenagers" either. Lets focus on the issue though, which was a single quest line in the game. Im not against clean or fun humor, but hildibrand was just really dull to me. The story just didn't interest me in any way. The main quest line however is really good by contrast. If they return to comedic quest lines Id like to see something better than Hildebrand personally.
Even though some of the jokes were corny, the storyline was entertaining. Kind of a break from the seriousness of the MSQ. I like the Hildibrand storyline, it made me laugh a few times, but overall, extra content is extra content and is always welcome.
The thing is - with humor there IS no "better" - there is just "different". I personally feel that Hildibrand isn't geared towards children but just a very typical type of "asian" humor. It's the type of humor that you see all the time in asian variety and game shows as well as their comedy TV series. None of them are specifially aimed at children, yet they all portray the same type of "childish" humor. If you aren't used to it, it's hard to find it funny. If you are, it's hilarious.
I guess many people who play FFXIV know other Japanese media too, so they already had their "getting used to a very different type of humor"-phase, which can take months to years, depending on the person.
