Miqo'te? (can't see with that headgear)
Those markings are genetic
It's not genetic, it's War Paint. Like how the Mithra of FFXI had them. Some Seekers stopped the practice of it (why they have a clear face option) while no Keeper tribes have stopped.
Just like Au Ra want horns separate from their face option? I don't see this happening anytime soon.
Yeah, I don't see it happening either but I'd love to have the option to choose these markings seperate from the face, just like the idea of au ra horns being seperate from the face. It would be one way of adding more diversity to character creation.
They are completely different things in FFXIV. Miqo'te are born with facial markings that are 100% genetic. They are like Au Ra scales. This is different from the face paints and the tattoos, which you can freely change in-game.
Miqo'te are not the same as Mithra. They are a lot more unique in lore and design than people realize.
The Miqo'te markings are genetic, like a cats fur pattern.
You should embrace the markings, not stray.
I would like the option to remove markings, too. I wanted to make a Hellsguard for a particular skin tone. But the dark marking on the nose was too much of a turn off, so I picked Sea Wolf. It looked to "bear/dog-like" to me. So now my character is paler than I wanted her to be, but at least no nose marking.
So what you're saying is that, there should be no clan/tribal/race differences at all? That would just stifle any uniqueness. Hell, if we are removing markings, we might as well give Elezen rounded ears, I prefer that style. Oh we could increase Lalafell height to match Hyur, I prefer taller characters.
I'd love to see where the official lore of the markings being genetic is, because in all the lore stated by SE on them, they're War Paint. I have seen fan made rp lore stating genetic, but that's just fan stuff.
That's not what I'm saying. I don't mind it if clans had different skin tones, physical features, or backgrounds, but if I don't want something as minor as a mark on the nose, I shouldn't have to have it forced on me. Make it a tattoo or an optional feature. And ear and height differences is nowhere near the point I'm trying to make
You mean like this?

Based on a Roegadyn NPC referring himself as a cub when he was a young boy, it's quite possible that Roegadyn may actually be related to bears at some level.
It also makes the phrase "Beargadyn" feel more accurate than people realize!
That could be my ursine bias speaking, however.
Moenbryda is a Seawolf Roe and I believe she has the same skin colour as my character: the bottom left option. I could be wrong though. Can't exactly go check it in game... :'(
I think some racial identity is nice though. Npc's get special treatment sometimes to make them more special, but it's nice to see players within the usual parameters of the races and clans. Wouldn't be much point in having them in the first place if people could make their character any way imaginable.
They mentioned that has something to do with the amount of slots (for lack of remembering the correct term) that can be used for creating a character. The slots are like Size, Bust Size, Face types etc. and do not include what goes into them, like the multiple hairstyles that they can keep adding to. This is why not every race can adjust their muscle tone, ear shape etc. because the slots are taken by something else, like tail length. To make the horns of Au Ra and markings of Miqo'te seperate from faces, they would need to add another slot or remove something else, which they can't/won't do.
Edit: The slots were referred to as Memory Allocation by Bayohne
As others have said, the Miqo'te markings are part of the race, plus their is one facial option without markings.
Taking this away would 1) take away one of Miqo'te's unique race trait, and 2) would be very hard to implement due to the usual PS3 limitations, character data limitations etc.
I'm all for more character customisation but you're not forced to have the markings. If they could remove them from face shape (like we'd like for the Au Ra horns) it would be nice, but highly unlikely.
