Medica.

I really find this spell to be weak and unreliable and often find myself leaning on cure IIs when there is party wide damage..

For example if we all take about 4k damage, medica is only going to do 1.2k forcing me to use it twice. In those situations where boss will troll us and do another party wide attack, ok, we're all near death.

I try to compensate by using DS, or DS+Medica II(mostly for regen because Medica II is even weaker than medica -.-)

I guess my complaint is, except for Cure III(relies on ideal positioning of players/luck) aoe healing in a pinch is bit weak. It's good for "fluff" aoe damage but heavy constant damage, it's terrible.

No matter how I try to look at it, I fail to understand the "weak" part you're mentionning about medica.

Poor MP managment. 2 Medica's will top people off in less mp, than 4 Cure2's.

While that's true I rarely run out of MP.

Although today I seem to be having a pretty bad day. Perhaps I will try using it a bit more I guess.

1. Medica has a half-cost proc
2. If your team is stacked, consider using Cure III instead. But if you have time, cure III is not necessarily the best option.
3. Medica II does not have a half cost proc, but if you have time to let the HoT actually work, it's ridiculously efficient
4. For the love of the twelve, if you're going to spam cures, do it with Cure I, not Cure II.

Aoe spells are our highest potency spells a 300 potency medica is 2400 potency in 8 man content.

Medica does not seem weak to me, but I have to admit that usually I prefer Medica II and Cure when necessary... Unless it happens on trash in which case I might use Medica instead to save my tank headache.

That's what DS is for. Medica does the trick on its own for bars that are about 2/3s of the way full. For 50%> hits, you'll want DS (and/ or, if it isn't already up, Medica II.)

If it healed any more on its own, it'd be too OP IMO.

And to be honest, when it comes to bosses that have high-damage party-wide attacks, you'll always want some form of Regen/ MII on the party anyway. My rotation tends to be DS -> Medica II -> Regen on tank (depending on the damage they're taking) -> Keep everyone topped with Cure/ Cure II -> Medica + DS during AoE attacks.

And another Medica when everyone starts hitting 70 - 80% if you're one of the overheal types. :p

Good advice... if you're fortunate enough to be paired with DPS who don't have a death wish.

WHM has the best AOE healing in the game, period. If you think WHM AOE healing is weak, you're going to hate SCH and AST.

Hmm. If the game is the source of your frustrations, there is no harm in taking a break. Return when the patch hits and come at it fresh.

Medica is one of WHM's staple healing skills. 300 Potency isn't bad for healing up your party after a 3k hit(and adding in DS with anything makes it 30% more efficient, especially HoTs). Not to mention, Assize = Medica in Potency and restores 10% of your max MP, so don't be afraid to use it if your MP's looking around the 75% mark and you don't need to use SoS.

As for spamming Cure IIs...please no. Cures do the job just fine(plus the proc saves double the MP cost of Cure). If you need to, throw a Tetragrammaton on a single target that's rather low. Just don't use DS with it because it's still not effected by the healing potency bonus from it.

Medica is relatively niche but not because C2/C3 is better, it's because Medica II is ridiculous (in a good way) potency/MP wise, and the timing of raidwide damage mechanics is too wide apart. Typically Medica II + Succor is enough, or Medica II alone will suffice. Medica's fine for what it does, the only negative being there are not many windows to use it efficiently, and that has only been further diminished by Assize and Indom.

It's not really too weak, Medica II's just too good. I do think its MP cost could be a bit lessened; too close to Medica II's cheapness.

Agreed with above. In most cases, you will never use med 1 over med 2.

Unless it is a situation that does high aoe dmg in a multisecond window (a3s for example) then med 2 is always the better choice. Medica feels more like the aoe you want to burst spam 2 or 3 times or when the party is only missing 1 or 2k hp. Just not many situations this happens in

To be fair, Indomitability has 100 more potency than Medica, costs 0 MP, and has no cast time. SCH's are beast AoE healers in 3.0 if they know when the damage is going out. In many ways, they are the most OP healer job right now.

Yes, Indom is awesome. It also takes an Aetherflow stack and has a cooldown. So, regardless of AST and SCH having some nice AOEs, they are not AOE king, that title still belongs to WHM.

Cure 1 is 1.6k. Cure II is 2.4. Medica is 1.2k. Medica II is about 900.

I believe you're claiming this in the perspective of burst healing a group up, but if not, Medica II is in this gear level more like 2,800 HP in total. The situations in which you can't let Medica II heal up the party before further heals are needed, like a Medica or individual heals on players other than the MT, in dungeons or raids, are mildly rare if you actually look at outgoing damage timelines.

Yes in terms of burst, yes medica II is the weakest but it is still by far the strongest of the Aoe Heals. There is the inital 200 potency but what puts it ahead is the HoT which is a 50 potency tick every 3 seconds, put all 30 seconds together and thats 500 which makes the medica 2 at 700 potency in total which makes it stronger than 2 medicas. And the other thing for medica to be of use is if this HoT isn't near the end of its run for you to refresh it. Like everyone else had said, when its like A3 savage where the boss does protean wave into splashs.

Cure 3 has its own strengths but the thing to remember about it is that it requires the group to coordinate together. People have to own the fight ala A3S where you have to stack for the cleave and cure 3 is perfect for that.

oh, don't forget asylum. it is in total an 800 potency aoe HoT (for free). assize 300 potency (for free). plus medica, medica 2 and cure 3.

and nothing beats presecne of mind + medica spam for burst aoe heal. yeah, i think whm is still the aoe king. this includes also regen on multiple targets.

Divine Seal + Medica if you're feeling it's too weak, although I Divine Seal + Medica 2 so I can just DPS and Stoneskin the tank while in Cleric stance :p. Medica 1 has many good uses though.

My only advice would be to actually level the job to 60, gear it up and then complain if you have to. I think you'll find that Medica is a very good spell and that this thread is rather irrelevant.

I am close to 58. I complained because it bothered me. That problem is everyone thinks everybody is 60 and it was no different when the cap was 50. You all been doing this for a while, you are no stranger to this.

Besides, I can just make my own burst AOE healing by way of Medica II + regen on everyone, when there is constant heavy AOE damage involved. I also been using medica a little more.

Do you even know what you're talking about?

Medica is a very useful spell. It's a stronger burst heal than Medica 2. So, if you're in a fight with heavy aoe damage and people aren't stacked where you can use Cure 3, then it's good to Medica 2 first for the regen and then use Medica to follow up if heals are still needed and if the regen from Medica 2 is still up. This helps with mp management. Then if regen drops, recast Medica 2. There's no need to spam Medica 2 over and over, unless maybe your group is spread out and you need that extra range. (Medica 2 is 20y, Medica is 15y)
Also in some fights, you might not want that regen from Medica 2 up due to adds popping and you getting the hate instantly (Such as T13 or A2). So in that case, Medica would be better to use.

It doesn't matter what level you are or what your gear is, Medica will always do more burst heal than Medica 2 and different situations may call for one over the other. It doesn't mean that Medica is bad. But each healer uses the job differently to fit what works for them, so do what works for you.

I have a feeling it's because you've been running vault which is a very healing intensive last fight that makes your healing toolkit seem somewhat ineffective. Try using it once you hit 59 in Gubal even and you'll see how well it does what it needs to.

If by healer intensive you mean having to keep up Medica II with your Regen while DPSing your brains out, yes.

People exaggerate Vault. The only time you really need to do some focused healing on WHM is some C2s for some cleaves from the first and final boss, and if a DPS walks into bad stuff you have to take care of them. Otherwise same old same old, keep up Divine Seal HoTs, keep up DoTs, Stone III if no Cures are needed, don't go completely OoM while you're doing it.

That is not burst.

If Medica was any stronger it'd have to have larger mana cost, longer cooldown/casting time or both. But, tool for a job, if you find yourself in situation where casting 4 spells is better then use it. Or if you'd have had the time for 4 casting times of cures, maybe med II -> med I to fill the gap if needed and let the regen effect do the rest. Oh, and don't disregard Assize for healing purpose. It has same potency as med I so casting Med I -> Assize gives the double med amount of heal effectively in one cast time. And you've got it on level 56.

Medica is fantastic..it's cheaper than Medica II. If Medica II is up, and there's still significant damage to heal, don't be afraid to use Medica. If the HoT isn't up, Medica II is fine to use.

I just get frustrated by the whm who use Medica II twice in a row...I just..I don't understand.

I've only done it on scholar so it was a pain in the ass, especially when people eat horse footprints like halloween candy. I'm leveling WHM now though and I look forward to Medica II.

Most of the time you should chose pour spell with their potency and mana cost

On a 8-man fight
If you have to cast more than 3 cure II or 5 cure I
Then go for medica or medica II

You will save so much mana !

(And do not use the "I don't struggle with mana" card... Because you always do... There is always someone to do a mistake while you're enjoying DPS and your tank is stable...)

You can cast cure I for like...forever. Natural mana regeneration + SoS is enough. The main issue with casting/ spamming it is more a problem with not having enough spellspeed that matches the incoming damages sometimes.

If someone is habitually stupid they become predictably stupid in time though.

Healing stupid means spamming cure on a tank with 100% of his life on a pack of 2/3 mob...

I think after 7 wipes and almost a time out in the vault it is time for me to consider hanging up my rod. Can't tank for shit, and can't heal through massive AOEs, and I'm a subpar DPS.

medica is a spell i dont use that often to be honest, but it has its uses for some quick burst healing. sure it is not super strong, but if you need to, just combine it with devine seal and go. medica is not there to be imba, no skill in the game is (except bene XD), but every one has its fair situations where it shines.

simple rule: "braindead spamming" of whatever skill your finger hits first is never the right way. always try to find the right skill for the situation, with boss mechanics and mp management in mind

tell that my 4k assize aoe crits ;)

WHM has great tools for single target healing and aoe healing, as well as burst single target and burst aoe dmg. it just takes some time to learn advanced mechanics like stance dancing

but if you think WHM is not the right class for you, feel free to switch to another. SCH has its schields and fairy and AST has cards. maybe one of them is better for your playstyle
