Fate difficulty and scaling 57-59

I would really like to see fates start scaling lower than their current levels, so they are more reasonably soloable late at night or in zones people rarely frequent.

I've been playing late hours more frequently, and would really like to use fates as a method of leveling, but there are just too few places to do this in 3.0 zones. Dravanian Forelands isn't that difficult to solo, but anything higher level than that is tuned too high. Specifically, I've been trying fates in the northern part of Sea of Clouds, as well as Azys Lla. It's a mixture of fates needing too many kills to complete, enemies having massive health pools, and mobs hitting hard enough that even a healer chocobo has difficulty keeping me alive against one enemy.

Also, we've got a ton of fates in 3.0 that reward 50% xp, with follow-up fates that reward full xp. Something I just ran into was a Part 1 that was scaled to one person (doable yet troublesome) followed by a Part 2 that was scaled to at least a full party or two. Part 2 consisted of lots of "small" enemies, but each small enemy had the same hp as the previous fate boss, and I apparently need to defeat around 30 of them. I suppose that, since the Part 2 Fate hadn't spawned in a long time, it never had a chance to scale back down from however many people cleared it previously.

We've got so many great zones, with a huge variety of fates, yet outside of three zones, no one ever does fates or responds to fate parties on my server. While I expect the new relic quests to boost Fate participation in these other zones, the problem remains that it is too difficult to clear these fates without a full group supporting you. Let me play freely in these zones, because they are practically wasted as they are now.

Not trying to be an @$$ or anything, but out of curiosity,,what job and is it well geared and your chicken well leveled?

I ask because I haven't really run up against it yet myself across a few jobs and 3 ranks on my choco. 60 BLM, SMN, BRD, MNK, and my DRG is about 2/3 through 58 to hit 59. I've used mixes of completed poetics pieces and HQ crafted pieces and green dungeon drops here and there when I got my hands on something that looked better. I do use foods though too (old XI habit), so that might be a factor if you aren't giving yourself a little boost there.

I also do some of the daily stuff too so I'm not hammering FATES too much. You can pull in 2 mill or more just completing some weekly challenge logs, and the daily clan hunt logs bring in a bunch of XP as well. At 56 or so it is something like 400k or something completing all 3--and I find the same target sometimes shows up across different logs so you kill the number for one log and get 20k+ from each log with the same target. Nothing like getting 40k plus for killing 2 or 3 mobs. In a way, it is like getting FATE XP with little effort now that I think about it.

Are you actually talking about the same fates I'm talking about? Because the way I see it, a fate that takes 12 minutes to clear solo, or a fate mob that takes away a fifth of my health per hit is just too much. No one is doing these fates, no one is playing in these zones, and it really doesn't need to be that way.

Most of the 2.0 zones were like this until around 2.1. I'm just suggesting they make the "low end" of the fate scale to feasible one person levels. Try a fate in western Outer La Noscea that you level sync for. Now try a fate in Sea of Clouds. I'm suggesting that they should take the same amount of time to clear when you are solo.

Try the dravanian hinterlands.. They're a bit easier solo. But yeah, sometimes the scaling on part twos is brutal.

How about dropping the dumb scaling system entirely? Fates dying quickly was only an issue for relic quest players, which isn't a thing right now.

On my server during peak hours, there are usually fate parties (or at least you can create one people join) for churning mists and hinterlands. Thus, when I'm on my own at night, I'd rather try fates in a location that I haven't grinded for 10 hours already. Also, screw those enemies in hinterlands with the stacking vulnerability debuff, lol.

Nah, fate scaling is necessary for any time fate parties pop up. Whether you are in a group or not, if you don't hit the enemies enough, you don't get full credit. I remember south shroud back during 2.0, when it was impossible to get anything more than a silver rank. That being said, the only fates that should require a full group should be the ones with achievements and unique rewards. It makes no sense to spend months developing unique zones and fates, just to require players that want to fate grind to stick to the same zone that everyone else flocks to.

Maybe I'm just weird, seeing as I chose South Thanalan and East Shroud for level 45-50 grind instead of the usual North Thanalan, but I like to play in a variety of zones.

The Fates don't really scale by level. They scale by how many people participated in that particular Fate's last occurrence. So if noone participated in it prior it's going to be scaled pretty low for it's level range whereas if it was hit with a Fate party it's going to be scaled pretty high. This is true of all Fates, not just the NM Fates though the NM Fates are more blatant with the differences. If a Fate you're trying to do is kicking you around don't blame the level difference, blame the Fate party that steamrolled it previously.

I'm talking about how low the fate scales when no one has been completing it. I'm just using "level 57-60" as an indicator of the zone and the fate I'm doing. My point is, that fates that no one is doing in later 3.0 zones are too difficult and time consuming to be run by a single player, compared to fates in 2.0 zones. This forces players to run fates in groups, which typically stick to hinterlands, churning mists, and often only Northern Thanalan on my server.

The level 50-54 fates are easier to solo (assuming no one has cleared them recently), because according to 3.0 gear rules, a level 51 player should be wearing ilevel 115 or 120 gear. If I'm in ilevel 130 poetic gear, I can beat these fates on my own. But at level 57-59, the fates are probably tuned toward players in ilevel 135-145 gear, and it is impossible to be higher geared than that while sub-level 60. Thus soloing them is much harder and there is more danger of running out of time.

While players always stick to a few zones, as northern thanalan proves, you always had the viable option in 2.X to wander off and grind fates in other places. In 3.0 zones, if I'm not with a group, its just not feasible to take on most of these fates alone, even when I'm the only person attempting them in days.

I blame the botters in N.Thal for 51+ FATE. It's the easy button of grinding and since SE isn't cracking down on it, more and more do it.

The only high level fate I think is broken is Revenger I know it can't be done with 1 party.

That's an achievement fate though. Those aren't supposed to scale down below a certain difficulty, although the 2.0 ones could usually be handled by 8 people who knew their stuff.

I think in general, all of the 3.0 fates are affected by the larger hp pools that 3.0 mobs have, which makes finishing any of them more of a challenge in the time allotted.

I don't know, seems to me like you're unlucky enough to be running Fates with a Fate party stealthing the area. I've had both hard and easy Fates in Heavensward areas and I run as Bard so my output isn't exactly top notch.

I attempted a few fates when I started HW then went strictly to dungeon running for XP because without a group the fates just take way too long to complete for one person for the amount of XP you get.

compared to the achievement fates in Churning Mist its practically undooable.

Would be nice if the FATE's difficulty scaled based on the activity in the other FATEs in the zone rather than just its last appearance. It'd avoid the problem where if a fate train stops for awhile (or logged off, or changed zones, etc), every FATE in that zone is a complete chore to clear for the following hour until the next fate spawn cycle comes along with the lowered attendance taken into effect.

FATE's do need to be made more appealing. I've yet to see people do any FATE - other than world boss FATE's - in Azyz Lla. I suspect that the new relic weapon quest will bake them into the quest chain purely to get some actual use out of them.

Problem with FATES at 51+ is unlike the ones before 50 the mobs still have too much HP. The exp/effort is too high in general past 50 because they made the mobs in general too hard. They thought that making the mobs harder to kill would be more of a challenge but they didn't increase the exp to match. They're not so much hard just more annoying its the same with the 51+ dungeons as well. Pre-50 dungeons would give the best part of a level if you were levelling an alt but the 51+ ones give little more than a 1/4 of a level at best. Levelling needs to be more balanced out and I hope 3.1 comes with some fixes for that.

Hinterlands are great if they are not leveled up... once they get scaled up they are not even very good with a full group. I am fine with fate scaling I just feel the max level for them needs to be dropped down or they need to reset back to lowest with a single fail.

oh... and those things in the hinterlands that have the stacking debuff are evil. Especially the boss version.
