So I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right spot but I saw some threads on extreme lag on some servers and I'm hoping that's what's happening here. I switched over from Phoenix yesterday to Leviathan. I'm in the US and was attempting to move to a NA server.
The first thing I noticed was the server time on Leviathan was 6 hours ahead of me. I'm in CST and I know that most of Europe is roughly 6 hours ahead.
The second thing I noticed was the lag. Even more lag than I'd had on Phoenix prior to the transfer. I was in a fate party and while trying to follow the members around, I'd experience them freezing then jumping forward quite a ways. In one battle, I died because the whole thing froze for me, but the timer on the fate still went and it responded when I used my shortkeys so I know it was lag and not the game.
I thought Leviathan was a NA server since it shows up as one of the worlds "recommended to players in North America." but based on the server time and the lag... Was I wrong? Did Leviathan move to Europe too? And if so, did I waste my free world transfer because Square Enix doesn't know how to label their own worlds? Or is it just lag related to all the server changes?
I'm really unsure what to do now... The lag hasn't let up at all and is getting really frustrating... I don't even dare do any dungeons because I know I won't be able to dodge anything. Any ideas?

Leviathan is still a NA Server but I've been keeping an eye on pings & traces (I play on Leviathan from the UK) and since the server transfer both have increased. My ping went from circa 90ms to 230ms with spikes of 700ms. That was on Tuesday night (UK time). It's the same now but no spikes. It seems that the average hops are circa 20ms until I get to 141.136.106.106, which is Tiscali based in Germany (!) that's 165ms & Ormuco Montreal which is the server centre (also 165ms). Prior to the transfer I routed straight to the US West Coast & not via Tiscali.
I think something has changed. -

Yeah... The biggest proof to me is that the server time in game on Leviathan shows as 12:35 am... I'm in Texas and it's only 6:35 pm... I know a lot of Europe is 6 hours ahead from me... So why the hell is Leviathan on European time now?

If I remember right, one of those time settings is always the same...like it's GMT/Zulu or something like that.
Issues/changes in routing between you and Ormuco (NA) or KDDI (EU) would be something for your ISP to investigate first, as that is most likely tied into their peering agreements and routing policies, not something SE can address.
The exception might be an issue at the exchange points into Ormuco or KDDI, as there could be an issue with the bandwidth or other peering details on their end where SE might be able to push their ISP into investigating. But anywhere before that is something that should be managed through your ISP first because their routing policies have put you on the path you are taking to get there. -

Game servers in Canada are hosted by Ormuco and start with 199. The Aether lobby is neolobby02.ffxiv.com and Primal uses neolobby04.ffxiv.com -

I wonder if SE advised EU ISPs of the move & as a result all FFXIV traffic is assumed to be going to Germany until the last minute. Out on a limb, I know, but it was so closely linked to the change it's almost beyond coincidence. =DQuote:

Yeah... it's likely going to knacker up the tables for a while. Internet traffic is prone to short term spiking all the time, so it sometimes takes a while for long-term adjustments to get locked in. Kinda like it takes a car about 100 miles of driving to adjust to a change in gas formulation and stuff--has to log a lot of short-trim on-the-fly compensations before it starts to change the long-term trim it uses as the base-line.
I did some poking around in a looking glass earlier today and saw some historical data showing Level3 getting pushed to lower priority while TATA was moving up the lists in some areas in the US. Hopefully the same thing will start happening overseas soon as well. -

Both my and my partner play on Leviathan and have had terrible lag spikes that have been getting us killed while raiding. No other MMO we play has this issue and our internet connection is steady and isn't dropping download/upload. If this can't be fixed we will have to look at cancelling our sub as the lag is pretty bad and random. I don't know any anyone else but I have noticed it happens mostly between 7pm to 1am CST. After that is occurs less frequently.
