With the first expansion now out theres a HUGE amount requests to abolish the need of completing the previous msq to access newer contents,to where 4.0 is confirmed to NOT REQUIRE ANY 3.0 msq to access. But what does this mean? All newer job skills/relevant tomestone instances/flying need you to explore through certain areas of 3.0 that essentially* require you to do the msq(they aren\\\\\\'t unlocked by strictly msq but you can\\\\\\'t just buy HW and get to idyllshire without doing msq @ all you rampant hair-splitters lol) so my questions are this: how can 4.0 expand our characters without needing to be lvl 60?(lvl 60 IS possible without doing any msq but you wont have relevant dungeons to grind) does this mean 4.0 won't be lvl 70? How can you fly without obtaining the compass?(side quest unlocked at certain point in msq) and if lvl 60 is the cap til 5.0, how will our characters obtain higher power? Will expansions alternate from exp lvl/skill on 1 to enhanced traits on the next?

They confirmed flying is gonna stay. I suppose you can either get the compass from 4.0 content or you simply need to do the 3.0 quest for it. Just because you don't need to complete 3.x to start 4.0 doesn't mean you don't need to touch 3.x at all to get the full experience.

I never understood how anyone can truthfully say they enjoy a game when they request to skip 90% of the game and demand the same things/privileges that those who played the other 90% do.

We can blame the "end game" mentality for that. Luckily MSQ is major turn off for players that I call "the spacebar nation" (skip everything story related and rush to max level).
I am interested in the application of 4.0 myself. It will either start at level 60 which brings us the problem of gap between 50-60. Or it will start at level 50 which brings us the issue of current players. I am not sure that playerbase would be happy with doing low level content for which they are way overgeared. Of course you can level sync it, but neither I think many would be happy with glamour only gear.
But who knows? As it is assumed to take place underwater it might require different type of gear and maybe even different jobs. It would be interesting if our current jobs got an underwater specialization with its own levels post 50. -

I'm curious as to how 4.0 will be handled as well. I didn't mind that they gated HW access behind ARR completion, due to the nature of Ishgard and all. However, gating the jobs themselves I didn't agree with. Even more so when, once you get them, the 30-50 quests all take place within ARR areas anyway. Having the 30-50 lvling be available to ARR users (on condition they reached 30 on a starting class, of course), yet locking them out of post-50 xp and skills unless they have HW would've been a fair compromise.

The big reason why new players were complaining about having to do the story for 2.X, was because level 50 content was made useless pretty much for people that have already done the story, and the fact that players wanted to experience the new areas and levels...
It was a horrible idea to just make level 50 content useless like that, and I honestly don't see the point in raising the level cap. I would much rather they just kept level 50 as the cap, kept the old content relevant still, and focused more of their time to create better end game.
I don't think those new players would be whining if the whole expansion was just an... well... expansion of the 2.X end game (I don't just mean raids). Everyone demands a lot of content, so why throw away all the content they have made before?
EDIT: My point is that, it's not as fun going through the level 50 stuff, when most people have moved passed it. -

Level cap should stay on 60 in 4.0, old content should stay somehow relevant, filler quests should be simplified or left out, then the gate wouldn't be such problem.
2nd solution - put level 60 + MSQ summary into cash shop > profit. Trololo -

There will always be gates of some kind people need to deal with that , yes they said they not going to lock stuff behind the MSQ for 4.0 but that doesn't mean all gates are removed. If they do raise level cap to say 70 I'm sure there be content out there that will require you to be 70 to do it or least a certain ilvl. Just depends on how big those gates are but there will always be gated content in some way.
