Flood did 88 damage against Ifrit. Same with Freeze, and Tornado.
When the hell do I, as a Red Wizard (Conjurer) get to shine seriously? If I did 1k I would be happy with myself that I could do something besides heal.

patch 1.20
I can only hope...
Your obviously doing something wrong.
Did you check the elemental direction? Elemental affinity that day? What was the current weather? Perhaps you had a quad resist!
You must be doing something wrong. I can hit Ifrit with Tornado for 250+ damage without critical hit. That is with profundity II. Without Profundity 150-200. Ringband of gales +2 is the only wind amplifier i am wearing.
I shouldn't have to rely on Profundity to do high damage, I should be able to high damage on my own, and do higher damage with profundity when I really need to do it.
Tornado does pretty good damage. I really don't know what to suggest other than stop being terrible, and accept the fact that in a damage-heavy encounter you're probably going to need to heal.
maybe attach more "magic potency" materia to your gear?
if i remember yoshi mentioned they will change stuff about the spells in the next patch.
Get better gear, you are not suppose to hit a God like a truck with commoner's gears.
Ifrit is weak vs Wind (wind blows out fire in FFXIV, silly I know).
Um doesn't wind stoke fires in every other place other than Eorzea?
Also it is most likely that you are just not tall enough to cast important spells.
Yep lol. Apparently SE wanted to make FFXIV as different as possible when compared to FFXI that they even changed the elemental wheel lol.
Anyone with half a brain could tell you that winds only spread forest fires and that water is used to put them out :D
Alas, the same does not hold true in Hydaelyn.
Wind does indeed smother fire if it is used in appropriate amounts. The one I find ridiculous is water beating earth because it... wait for it... turns it into mud.
Yea, water just makes earth worse. Mudslides and lahars are much more devastating than some dry dirt lol.
Edit: Well.. on second thought, earthquakes aren't exactly a picnic either. But adding water to an earthquake is usually even worse than the earthquake itself.
You need to do it on this encounter, don't you?
Even though ancient spells need to be tweaked, right now they are pretty decent in the case that you gear yourself accordingly and employ all your arsenal from the Armoury System. It's called "character development", you know...
There are so many variables on the table, so IMHO I guess it will be better if you explain the hole situation and not just "Hey! Ancient spells are still useless!".
You're not gonna do heavy damage on Ifrit. Thats what Lancers are for.... Besides you should be conserving your mp for healing your party that is dying repeatedlyQuote:

Hes not healing his party because he's a bad mage that thinks role playing gives him an excuse to waste peoples time ;D
You need to break his horns before you can damage him (elementally at least) once his horns were broke I was doing 250 on Tornado, which is still shockingly craptastic but hey ho, SE seem to always screw mages over.
That being said they are supposedly redoing mage classes when they upgrade to the job system, we can only hope they make black mage worthwhile.
Don't give me that bullshit, this is the kind of idiotic thinking that resticts classes to playing one role.
Why even bother giving CON elemental spells if all we are supposed to do is heal, healing is for pussies.
You either have terrible luck, or terrible gear?
Our mages can hit Ifrit with 500+ Tornados. Not every time, but it happens, average is probably 200-350ish
Because the initial plan was to let Conjurer do both though I don't think they would excel at one or the other. As I'm quite sure you've seen Conjurer has been getting more and more healing/raise spells which would kind of force it more into the healer role. At least before with battle regimens you could lower the magic defense and get the numbers pretty high.
Are you serious, they just changed Ancient magic in patch 1.19 and are planning to add a blackmage job, which from what I understand should be equipable by both THM and CON.
Granted if they do decide to remove CON's elemental spell, they sure as shit better give them to THM.
In almost any other MMO out there mage type jobs are generally the top DPS's yet in this game they suck and in 11 they were made useless because of those stupid colibri.
LNC is only the top DPS because they nerfed ARC so bad they are basically useless now, as usual SE have no idea how to balance anything.
I remember when lancer was a joke.
No they said you had to be a specific class to unlock the job quest, they never said if BLM was THM only or DoM only.
spell damage always a big joke for magic lovers....
Wiz-Jin never failz!
He only have some bad dayz!
( ^.^)b
blackmage kick ass dps
whitemage heal heal heal
i say wait till the jobs come out and if you still have a hard time doing damage, then complain.
I'd consider getting some weapons with elemental magic potency added via materia to make something akin to the elemental staves from xi.
have you tried changing the color of you gear, lol.
