It has varied mechanics, yes.
But forgiving mechanics sadly don't end up teaching most people. They'll just kill the thing and forget it ever existed because it's not a roulette option.
Too bad it's a one and done thing, it's quite fun.
Forgiving sadly means faceroll. Faceroll means ignoring all mechanics and still clearing. That doesn't teach anyone anything.
I'm not really sure what you're talking about, you could probably finish the Singularity Reactor with a blindfolded party. You can't "learn your class" in an incredibly forgiving fight.
Which is why it is critical for there to be solo DPS checks in a group setting. (Party members zone into another room have to beat up target dummy enemy essentially, if they fail they die and more enemies spawn where the rest of the party is). Party can still succeed even with durr DPS failure but the DPS failure will KNOW they failed and hopefully will consider improving. The game already tells tanks and healers they are bad when they fudge up (lost aggro, people dying) but has no real way to let the masses know if they blow chunks in the DPS role.
You know why this doesn't work? End of the fight, the bad dps still clears the fight. Who handles the crap that the DPS screwed up? That's right, the rest of the party who didn't do badly.
So who's being punished here? The rest of the party who played well? Why?
I thought the point of the Singularity Reactor was so that people could skip a long cutscene but still have everyone participate, unlike how Ultima was part of the Praetorium.
Hard fight will be incoming with the Singularity Reactor (Extreme)...
So 4 player / 8 player content isn't completely derailed due to one person. This isn't end game raid here but story progression and expert dungeons - ie stuff you could probably do 2 man. The purpose is to give a bright red sign to the DPS that the are lackluster and should improve. What is the alternative? Th entire group is screwed? That's silly.
No, the problem is your suggestion doesn't change anything from how it is now. The players who did well are still being "punished" because of the bad DPS player(s).
What the ideal should be is that if they fail said personal DPS checks, they themselves pay the price, not the rest of the party. Sadly, this will NEVER happen because the devs want this game to be accessible to anyone as possible
oops wrong thread lol :P sry

lol
Did you prepare thyself, at least?
I'm not sure if it would actually hammer the point home well enough. I hope that the new feature they've talked about (forget the name -- beginner's coliseum or something maybe?) handles this a bit, though I wonder if it'll even be noticed by the people who need it...
In any case, some players really are amazing in their either deliberate bad performance or complete ignorance to the mechanics of their class. I was with a BLM in Aurum Vale the other day who almost never used any fire spell of any kind, even after I prompted him to try to stick to fire 3 followed by multiple fire 2s on the large groups of enemies. Instead he mostly used freeze and thunder 3 (on the same mob repeatedly even). It was like he hated dealing damage and was looking for a way to be casting constantly without doing any.
I lately have a weird feeling that bad players are catching up with HW content.
I remember that when I did Ravana and Bismarck during the first few weeks of HW, runs went without a hitch, mostly clearing in 2 tries, and that was while people were clad in relatively low gear.
Nowadays, despite there being several synced players, I have seen Bismarck HM runs not even finishing due to people being unable to clear the snakes DPS check, wiping 6+ times before disbanding. And Ravana runs that look just like the picture, and when they finally get cleared, it's just barely with 4 swords on the ground...
And this all with me pitching in DPS as well as a healer, which I did not need to do while leveling...
The ragequits actually start making sense...
Hm, I'll have to get a premade party together and go back in there to see what you mean. I'm hoping we get something like T5 here soon. That was when I really learned my class, and I know it was when my static really saw what they were made of and learned to start pushing their jobs. Right now, we just have Alexander Normal (which is still pretty forgiving) and Savage (very unforgiving). I always thought that T5 hit that sweet spot where it wasn't impossible, but did require you to know your job inside and out while balancing mechanics.
The point of singularity reactor is to put a smile on my face every time it shows up in trial roulette.
