I didn't know whether to post in in General Discussion or Lore. Does Eorzea have baseball? The goblins seem to be fans because their camps are all named after positions in baseball, shortstop, longstop, etc.
Do Eorzeans actually play any sports? Does such a thing exist?

Goblin names tend to be descriptive; Brayflox Alltalks is named as such likely because she talks to everybody (and often) despite goblins generally being rather brusque, and Quikthinx Allthoughts is probably named as such because he's a quick thinker who wants to control all thoughts.
The Longstop is probably named as such because it's somewhere you're stopping at for a long time. Conversely, the Shortstop is a place you're stopping at for a short time.
(And there is no "longstop" position in baseball. In cricket, but not in baseball.)
That's not to say there are no Eorzean sports, or that they don't have any analogues to real-world sports on Hydaelyn. Just that the goblin place names are... probably not referencing baseball (or another real-world sport). -

Honest answer: No. There's no signs of any earth sports. Although if the lore people were to ever write about it, some Eorzean stuff would probably be similar... but generally it seems Square prefers to keep Final Fantasy sports fictional. (And who can blame them, national leagues are litigation nightmares).

Technically, we have chocobo racing. Horse racing is a real thing, although it would be classified as a spectator sport rather than an athletic one like baseball.

Without modern agriculture, most people are probably farmers, craftsmen, or soldiers and have little downtime. If that time period is approximate, though, theater is probably around, as it was the main source of entertainment around then. A little credence is lent to this by the fact that one of the Deputy Postmoogle quests was rooting out a corrupt Ul'dahn merchant who was trying to take away a singing troupe in the employ of a Gridanian merchant (Maisenta of Black Rabbit Traders). There's also the seasonal holidays that most people probably participate in, as well as hangin' out with yur mates in the pub.Quote:
