Void Ark: Confirmed to be a relic from the War of Magi?

Just take a look at the summary: "Ark of ancient origins ...kept aloft by the lingering might of sorcerers ... escape a deadly flood"

Looks like we're finally going to get alot more lore regarding the War of Magi, especially the Mhachi.

I'm surprised ... concerned at how organic the facility looks. I wonder if the Void Arc is a living being? Hopefully, one of those many coffins will open and that person will then tell us all about what happened in the 5th Astral Era

That's what I'm thinking too.

Yep, really does sound like it's going to relate back to the War of the Magi and the Mhachi in particular.

If anyone sees the words War of the Magi and is wondering "how does this relate to Final Fantasy VI again"? There was a War of the Magi in Final Fantasy XIV during the Fifth Umbral Era. It's the story behind the City of Amdapor, Nym, and a city we have not yet seen.

Probably beaucse the Mhachi had a lot of voidsent help, for sure, thats how they could be able to made such a ship.

Well, the snippet says they summoned it in desperation to try and avoid the flood at the end of the war (Calamity of Water). It's probably not representative of their wartime capabilities.

Which makes all those coffins slightly more... Grim... I almost get a Dalamud feel from this... I suspect the Mhachi are still alive in there, though perhaps they wish they weren't...

I wonder how it was actually summoned... Primal? Voidsent? Probably Voidsent. I'm guessing it is a reference to the Ark summon, seeing as not all past summons have to be Primals and we already have a good amount of them being Voidsent (Atomos/Diabolos/etc.). If it is a Primal though, then it really does give off a Dalamud vibe... Do wonder what the coffins are for if it's not, though... I'm guessing, since they summoned it out of desperation, they overlooked the fact that Voidsent are bastards, "Yes I'll save you" says the Void Ark, "But you didn't say anything about letting you be free after!".

I wouldn't be too surprised if it is a primal. It looks very organic, and based on Lost City of Amdapor it looks like parts of it are in the image of what could be their architecture.

At the same time, it'd be very reminiscent of Alexander, and I don't know if they'd do two giant structure primals back to back.

I think the interior was littered with them somewhat as well, though it's hard to tell in the screenshots...

Given how tattered and destroyed the cloth mage armor drops looked from this in the Live Letter, I think we're going to find their fate quite unpleasant.

I wonder, from the video it looks like we'll be exploring pretty much all of the ark in the first raid...

I wonder if this means we'll be heading to Mhachi too?

Amdapor was the nation of white mages, though. Diabolos and Ferdiad were simply trapped and forgotten in Amdapori structures, discarded Mhachi weapons of the War of the Magi. It was Mhach that summoned the Void Ark to escape the flood, and, imo, the one and only link it has to the nation of black mages is the plane from which it was summoned.

It's my understanding that, while primals are thoughtforms created anew from aether each summoning, voidsent are summoned by opening rifts between our realm and the void itself and calling them through. This is most probably how Void Ark was summoned, but it also means that voidsent actually existed elsewhere before their summoning. Despite this difference, I can't help but feel a connection between voidsent lords and primals. It could simply be that the music for Diabolos and Ferdiad is eerily similiar to Ifrit's and I'm letting it get to me, but they are both alien to our realm and consume aether. We'll have to wait to hear what the eikons think of it all...but I digress.

I think you're right in that we'll be moving, much like we did through the Crystal Tower series. However, Mhach was situated in Eorzea and the ruins of the nation still remain in the forms of Temple of Qarn, The Invisible City, etc. However, there is that tower seen in that original slide (mayhap that's what you were referring to). There's no telling who the fortress belonged (belongs) to, but I think we can all agree that it matches not Mhachi architecture, nor that of any other civilization that we've encountered, and don't forget that ever welcoming zeus-y eikon-statue-dock-thing...

I'd love for Diabolos and Ferdiad to become end bosses for Void Ark.

I can picture Diabolos - Voidsent King of Nighmares - to have a field day in the Vaoid Ark assuming all those coffins contain a Mhachi mages in stasis

Given that it may be a living being, does anyone get the feeling it may be somewhat related to the Doomtrain? Since it was hinted in the Rising event that there might a Doomtrain minion, and since that carried the souls of people to the underworld, might it not be that the Void Ark in XIV is a similar construct in that it carries the Mhachi black mages in a comatose stasis as an anchor to remain floating in the Sea of Clouds and Hydaelyn as a whole?

Well, we were given the hint that we hadn't seen the last of Diabolos after his "defeat" in the Lost City... he'll probably show up in the Void Ark as a boss.

The next time we see Diabolos he'll probably have instant-death floor-falling puzzle mechanics and sleeps that are impossible to wake others from like in XI.

Speaking of Diabolos... Hope Square brings him back for the Amdapor storyline, personally. With Gravity spells as they should be (%hp loss)...
Void Ark gives me the impression that this is actually a voidsent, ferrying trapped Mhachi souls after 1500years of aimlessly floating. Lots of potential for a horror setting with voidsent running free of their chains.

People clearly survived the Great Flood and that Qarn may have been built by Mhachi survivors. We also heard that people hunted down mages during the Water Umbral era.

What I don't understand is why make an flying Ark and put themselves in these stasis pods if their goal is to escape the great flood calamity? Having a flying vessel means that they can go where ever they wanted, so something went wrong.

Maybe in desperation they went into the Void itself and that something went wrong while they were inside the void?

If you look at the surface of the ark, it kinda looks like Atomos skin

Maybe they called themselves into the void to QUICKLY escape the flood, since they were probably a large target by the elementals. Maybe once inside they realized they couldn't escape, so using their own bodies as Aether, as BLM often do, along with the nearby voidsent's as part of a deal, called forth a primal being to release them from the void, since you can't really call a particular voidsent while in the void... Only to be released thousands of years later. Exhausted with the burden of their summoning and the numerous Voidsents that crossed into the world within the corrupted ark... they sleep...

If the Void Ark is a Doomtrain equivalent we better be able to suplex it...

Has anyone else noticed the coffin shaped things hanging inside and outside of the Void Ark? I wonder if those are literal coffins, or more like stasis pods...

I don't know what they meant about past bosses that will be associated with the Void Ark. I'm still in the hopes that well have some kind of reference or nod to Robel Akbel in appearance as part of the War of the Magi lore. We did get a nod to Shantoto in the Thm/Blm lore. Otherwise I'm thinking all those coffin things might hint at a Dracula/Vampire or some kind of Lich (4 fiends?) tucked away on that ship.

I'm assuming there are Mhachi in those coffins, and that they have not been in a happy place in a very long time.

I too get the feeling that the entire Ark will be explored in this raid. I'm hoping we'll get to discover more places related to the War of the Magi, including Mhach itself (which has been stated to be located on the Yafaem Saltmoor, which lies northwest of Mor Dhona and not in Thanalan like their successors). There's still vast areas of Nym that haven't been explored, as well.

I also really want to know more about Sil'dih, which is distantly related to Mhach as well.

I am glad that we're giving the Allagan stuff a rest for a bit.

Coffins inside. Roughly man-sized. Coffins outside though, are massive in scale. Dragons? Larger voidsent?

If Mhachi are on the Ark, possible they are preserved to harvest their nightmares or prayers, granting more power to the Lord of the Void Ark. Could have been out of desperation to survive, yes. Instead perhaps part of a grisly deal to ensure the survival of a race of people against one calamity or another.

Also, does that dock-looking platform's statue resemble one of the Triad to anyone else?

I wonder where they're going to go with Void Ark form here though... Diabolos is a big bad, but now he is either a mid-boss, or final boss of the first set? Less disappointing than his role in the Lost City, but still pretty lackluster... Actually, I hope Void Ark is its own contained little thing... I would love it if the next 24-man raid is the Floating City of Nym, and the final one being whatever is going on in West Shroud for an Amdapor themed raid, Lost City is directly south of the place and I don't think it is a coincident that the main hall in Amdapor Keep looks out on it... Judging by the artwork though... There would seem to be some Mhachi building somewhere out there, so Yafaem Saltmoor is probably a safe bet at some point... Perhaps the Floating City of Nym and West Shroud could work nicely as new Airship Exploration areas...

It makes sense for each one to fit with each of the warring factions there. Or at least sounds nice.

As for Nym, there's this place in particular that stands out. Similar design to the Wanderer's Palace. Perhaps all these pieces can float together or something, it seems logistically odd to have your city separated like this. Might be a security measure I suppose. I agree that the West Shroud needs to become a thing as well, but I'm wondering a bit about that area and Yafaem Saltmoor as they've never added entirely new areas in a regular patch, have they?

The Gold Saucer? I think that's kind of an exception though... They're adding an entirely new zone for Airship Exploration though, so if that becomes a recurring thing they could add a similar new zone with 3.3 and 3.5.

Hah, I completely forgot - I actually haven't even unlocked Gold Saucer yet. Too busy with all the other things in Eorzea. But yeah, I think that's sort of an exception, and I reckon that building a mostly-indoors area can be a bit easier than a whole new zone. It'd definitely be awesome if they did add West Shroud and Yafaem Saltmoor at some point in 3.0 though, but I have a feeling it'll be one of those airship-straight-to-the-door things.
