Hmmmmm tough call.
If it was about the people playing a game would it be a comedy?
The Misadventures of the Derplander
Also: I'd prefer if it was more like RO the Animation. I have...opinions about SAO... and still in my eyes .hack got it right and really can't do the whole "people playing MMOs" thing any better than that so... and everyone and their mom has an anime like that, more of the world of the game is "real' please.
I wouldn't be opposed to an anime following a bit of lore that we haven't seen. Perhaps another adventurer and their gang going on a different journey related to the travels of the Miqo'te or Au Ra when they first landed in Eorzea? That would be fascinating. I wouldn't touch anything that follows the current plot that we're following, though.
I was working on a dojinshi based on Alphinaud and Alisae called "My twin sister can't be this cute?" but decided to scrap it.
I'd rather it be unique characters (adventurers) living in the world of FF14 with maybe the occasional cameos or mention of main npcs than it be players being transported into the gameworld
If it was like RO the Animation or Log Horizon (sans "trapped in the vg world" story) it could be very well done. If it was done like SAO (again, sans the "trapped" story) I'd be disappointed.
I would like a spin-off about the 1.0 storyline and the Scions backstory, not us.
Either random adventurers running parallel to the WoL's actions or something from the backstory. War of the Magi or Fall of Meracydia could be neat.
There's always the "hero summoned from another world" trope.
Hydaelyn summoning forth the will-be Warrior of Light from another world. That kind of thing.
In either case, I'd like the FFXIV world to be (a) reality in this hypothetical anime, not just a game. It makes the happenings in any story it might have much more impactful.
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mdbdtjAkPA1qgzmol.jpg make a spin off of Hildibrand and that be it hahaha id watch an anime of him any day of the week:D
It be set in the game world maybe make others from the story pop in and out some eps and it be a comedy^^
This. My opinion on it would be to mix the two, having it be SAO like in that it be a player or small group of players, (probably a single party's worth), that get summoned to the world of FFXIV, but it be a reality there rather than a video game. Then they have to adapt to actually fighting in that world, and risking death, rather than just playing a game....
I mentioned this in another thread but I do think it would work out if they had the right group working on it. They have a LOT of material to work with and if you wanted to claim it as a Dissidia brand of Final Fantasy, you can play with the entire universe from start to end and not worry about much. Few episodes going through all the main numbered games (1-15) then going through the whole, entering dimensions of each other. Plus I wouldn't argue with more of Shantotto anyway in any form :3
I wouldn't mind a retelling of the story with Derplander. It'd be odd but he's been our stand in all along. Maybe it could shed some light on things the game doesn't and flesh out characters instead of fetch questing episodes.
I want to see an animated Haurchefant, even if it's a bit redundant. Or animated Estinien mmmyes. And. And Aymeric. Imagine Aymeric in a well done anime style.
I don't think I'd want it to be about people playing the game. There's enough story within the game itself for it to be a meaningful setting.
My vote would be either: A) Hildibrand, B) The 5 years "Post Calamity"(between 1.23 and 2.0), C) Pre-1.0 Scions/Louisoux backstory, or D) Allagan Backstory
Based on the performance of the anime industry lately I don't think SE would be in a particularly big hurry to get back into it. Unless it's moe anime or generic shonen it's not really profitable at this point.
It might be fun as a short OVA or something but I can't see it working for a full-length series.
It would probably have a bunch of overly-annoying catgirls in it with the usual sickeningly cutesy personalities.
I don't really understand why is there no good ones out lately? I don't know the whole story but since a lot of anime seams to be based off of manga. They seam to be making more anime off the monthly chapter ones im going to use Blue Exorcist as an example but since their using the monthly chapter ones they eventually catch up to where the manga is and then they go a completely different way from where the originally story is going.
Is this what's happening?
Tons of anime every season has been based on manga, I haven't seen an increase in that.
It's anime companies having no money, so they'll take either a manga or an original screenplay and figure they can only get thirteen episodes out of it, maybe two seasons of that if it's extra popular. Also there's tons of anime every season, it's like market saturation. For every one really good show there's ten moeblob slice of lifes no one really wants to watch
No one wants to sit through a million-episode show anymore (and of course really look at the ones that are still in that format, they have been for years and years now).
Also unless I'm nuts Blue Exorcist only had twenty five episodes. I don't think they'll make a new season, either, to "catch up" with the manga.
I am working on a fanfiction called Hydaelyn Unlimited. It's supposed to be like an anime version of the FFXIV main story with original characters.

If it where to be an anime, I'd rather have it be it's own thing. Possibly following the story of 4 adventurers and taking place between the end of 1.0 and the beginning of 2.0.
I think trying to copy .hack would just be dumb, unless it turns out to be a comedy or something going back and forth between the player and character. Small things would be funny like a female Miqo'te having a male voice because the player is male or vice versa.
It isn't that there are "no" good shows, it's just that the average quality has dropped drastically since the major anime companies learned that really lazy moe anime literally prints money. All they need is a good character design that moe fans will pay $100+ for pillow covers of and it becomes much easier to make money, rather than spending money on expensive animation which may or may not even become popular enough to make a profit via DVD sales etc.
Also the magic formula for success these days is to get an anime show with a cellphone game tie-in (like Love Live) which has pretty much made a lot of anime just blatant commercials for cellphone games.
Only if the Warrior of Light were a lalafell who communicates only in facial expresses and inarticulate yells/grunts.
Nevermind that animators and VAs are getting paid sweat shop wages. A lot of adaptations also don't get renewed for anything beyond the initial 12 episodes if they don't cause a big spike in the source's sales.
Oh, and a lot of studios also deliberately censor their series so they can get perverts to buy overpriced blu-rays later on since that's the only way they can avoid working at a deficit.
This. Easier to relate to the main characters than having it be a "famous" character leading the line, great way to make references, and not tied to a single style (you could have Hildy episodes for slapstick alongside more serious plots). Not sure if anyone has read the XIVnomnom comics but having random adventurers be the main characters just makes for the best kind of fun.
I think a manga series would be more likely considering they've done that before. (and would probably be more successful anyway)
I would be happy if it were just short arcs about people living within the world from various viewpoints while the main stuff we go through in game is floating around as a backround theme. Basically a chance for world/lore building.
it should deffinitly be like ragnarok the animation where eorzea is a real world and not some virtual reality =3
I'll watch it only if Alisaie is the main character.... Still salted that she's completely vanished from the game after Coil....
FF14 as an anime would probably look quite like Log Horizon, since Log Horizon has fate like things, and raids and guilds, etc etc. Since I love both FF14 and Log Horizon, something inbetween the two would be awesome.
Why are people so upset about this? She's off doing her own thing and will be back when she's found whatever it was she's looking for. I've even seen people claim that she may as well have been eaten by a malboro because she "disappeared", it's only been 2 major patches since she was last in. Now G'raha? He's probably gone for good, you can say goodbye to him.
As for the OP, it would have to be an actual world for me to be interested. SAO is pretty awful, and Hack/Log Horizon aren't much better. If it was on par with Yu Yu Hakusho or Hunter x Hunter I'd be happy, but that's probably not happening as HxH is my favourite show (including real shows, not just anime) and topping that would be extremely difficult unless they get Togashi to write it.
It's funny that I'm basically on the other moderate side of the line.
I loved SAO, Log Horizon, and have a love-hate relationship with .Hack (//Sign ruined the entire series for me), and I find Hunter x Hunter overrated and actually pretty terrible.
I share the love of Yu Yu Hakusho, though. So classic.
I could see a comic strip... but who would want to watch an anime of someone grinding the same dungeons over and over and the mc losing sanity over it... ba-dum-ch, actually that might make a good romcom if theirs a newbie heroin bothering him the whole way.
I think the *possibilities* of an FF14 anime would be fascinating, and I'd love to see those. But if we got an anime, I'm sure absolutely none of those things would get attention. Instead we'd get a generic young midlander male, probably a teenager and definitely one of the tank classes, who would either be utterly forgettable or obnoxious and accompanied by such Totally Not Tired Cliches like the Healer Girl, Big Boisterous Guy (roegadyn for sure), and so on.
tl;dr it could be good in theory, but there's no way it would be in practice.
No to the idea because we are playing the story.
Anime only for an idea that is separate to the game, since FFXIV is an MMORPG if there is an off-shoot anime then that is less story to be used for the game. I would rather have that story saved for the game.
So long as it's NOT CG I think I'd be fine with almost anything they'd produce.
Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis came pretty close.
Also had a rockin' opening theme, and whenever Rage of Bahamut was used in T13 it came to mind.
