MCH Casting Animations

(Does this go here? I don't know? I have no idea where to put ingame suggestions)

This seems like a really dumb thing to complain about, but no one else seems to be talking about it, and a friend said I should say something, so...

Let's talk about Gauss Barrel. This isn't about removing Gauss Barrel, or changing the cast time, etc.
I haven't used it a whole lot yet because I'm still on the road to 60 (MCH 54), but so far I don't mind the cast time, really.

And yet I find myself avoiding it anyway, because the cast animations added to the skills make me cringe. Rather than having something that makes sense, like bards have, Machinist has like... some kind of bizarre arm wiggle where they shake the gun around. It's embarrassing. I feel stupid using it. I understand that this seems really trivial, but it's really, really bothering me. It would just be nice if we could be given a cast animation that makes a little more sense and looks less... ridiculous.

Im just sad at how stiff i look doing auto attacks... MCH just looks unfinished

They won't be changing it anytime soon, but I do agree that the casting animation while you have GB on is ....pretty bad and annoying.

Unlike BRDs where it looks like they're charging up their bows for max damage, the way that MCH hold their guns while casting is really not too different from how some beast tribe THM (maybe even 1.0 races?) would hold their staff up against their head while casting spells

It needs to change. Hell, Just use a double Reload animation while we're casting. Rationalize the bonus damage and Cast time as you literally stuffing an extra round or two in the chamber.
While we're on the subject of weird casting animations, I love Wanderers Minuet casting animation, though they REALLY need to speed up the shot animation post-cast though. Its still tuned for when it was an instant skill which makes a mess of the animations in general and has led to some weird unresponsiveness from my shots (This could have more to do with latency though).

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking! Like, just additional reload animations added to skills that get cast time with GB. Or even just additional time added to taking aim.
Gun safety 101: DO NOT HOLD THE GUN UP AND FLAIL IT AROUND (also you look really lame doing it).

Yeah. I actually like MCH a lot but the wiggle of the gun when casting made me quit it.

I agree it looks really silly for MCH. I've heard a few FC members complain about it as well.

I'm going to go a off topic here a bit here but I honestly I wish they would bring back Bards attack animations from the 2.0 beta when using WM.

They cut off all animation of their lower bodies since people couldn't stop running around and complaining about sliding but even though there was sliding the animations looked SO much smoother and cooler than what we have right now. I really like the cool poses they would do after a shot instead of their upper body flailing and rebounding around like we have now.
Machinist suffers from this too, they made it so the lower body just stays planted in the ground while only the upperbody is animated.

If anything, I wish WM and GB would make it so the old lower body animations played while in it.

I interpret it as the gun powering up for an extra powerful blast. Doesn't bother me much.

Yeah, I've always found it a little strange that the lower body stays completely immobile for the BRD skills. It makes the animations look a little weird. The same thing goes for the Machinist animations (what I've seen so far anyway, I'm only level 51).

Am I really the only person who doesn't have any problems with the way MCH looks with it's attack animations and sounds? I've seen three or four threads here in the past with people complaining about it. In my opinion as a MCH main, I think the animations for GB look fine, and fit with the magitek theme of the class, as it looks akin to charging a spell with your gun being you wand.....

I literally have zero problem with any of the other animations, or any of the sounds (I actually really like them). I just really dislike the look of casting animations that are added to regular skills by GB.

To me the Gauss charge animation looks like the upright gun pose duelists used in old wild west movies. Or fencing. It adds swagger and swag is never a bad thing.

Only animation I'd like fixed, is how sometimes when you use gauss round or heartbreak immediately after a regular shot, it'll sometimes aim the gun off to the side and fire, instead of at the enemy.

My main is MCH, and I must say that the class is just underwhelming when it comes to animation as a whole. The Gauss Wiggle is definitely weird and off-putting. And one of the best animations we have (rend mind) is used for a skill that will hardly see any use. Switch that with Slug Shot and I'll be a happy MCH.

It's not the upright pose that looks dumb, although holding it upright for casting really doesn't look good. It's how you wiggle it back and forth during the cast that looks silly. What is that supposed to be anyway?

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed... But I'm pretty sure Slug Shot looked different in the preview video. I haven't ever seen the action where a MCH kneels down for a shot. I presume it was probably changed for the same reason as Darkside's Flames, as it would look weird moving... but that results in Split and Slug have very similar animations.

Exactly! This is what bothers me about it. I would even be satisfied if they just left the holding it upright in, as long as they removed the bizarre wiggle.

Even the brd one doesn't make sense. Holding your arrow in the quiver boosts damage by 30%? wat?????

Should have been an "aiming" animation, where the brd is holding a drawn arrow pose for the 1.5 sec cast time, or a more ritualistic animation where the archer is slowly drawing the arrow while taking aim, during the 1.5 cast time then releasing.

I feel the mch cast should be a simple aim down the sight and shoot. Instead its something wacky that looks more instinctual followed by a fling shot.

Primitive revolvers would get gunpowder and scrap stuck in the barrel so you'd shake the gun (maybe like the twirl) or use some bore cleaner to dislodge it. Eorzean guns are probably a little more advanced but I'm guessing that's the idea.

I'm sure you'd feel even more stupid knowing any competent Tank/Healer is doing more DPS than you because you can't stomach the animations Gauss Barrel brings.

That would be whoever playing MCH for that showcasing didn't know how to play the class, or give us the inference that people at SE doesn't know how MCH plays.

Split Shot > Wild Fire > Clean Shot > Quick Reload > Rend Mind (and you see the debuff effect for this) > Foot Graze (and yo usee the bind effect) > Ricochet.

None of the abilties were changed from the trailer, they have the same animation and effects as the live version. Though it still confuses me that they showcase MCH as being able ot stand still to boost their damage, but showcase WM for bard and no GB for MCH.

Other than that, the gun waving thing looks really silly as much as WM's cast animation does.

I may get hate for this, but I always kinda hoped MCH was more like Gunslinger/Sniper from SWTOR. The ranged snipe and on the move mid range dps was really fun and fit the role(s) well too.

Nowhere in my post did I say that I was outright refusing to use it, so that assumption is unnecessary. This is a thread I made in an attempt to submit a suggestion about getting a different animation, not an attempt to whine my way out of using it altogether.

I did mention finding myself trying to avoid it, but that is outside of dungeons, on the field alone, with my chocobo out, so that's my own prerogative and has nothing to do with affecting other players.

Regardless of what you or anyone else assumed, the point of this thread isn't to argue the usefulness of GB, it was to make a suggestion to change the animation. There's nothing constructive about coming here to argue with me about whether or not I should be using it - I'm using it. What else do you want from me? Why does this matter?

Youre being overly defensive over an assumption to the point it wouldn't shock me if there was some truth in you not using it all just stop.

Perhaps word your posts better in the future if that's truly what you meant instead of numerous posts later contradicting what you said previously and claiming my assumption is unnecessary.

Sorry but what? How does one charge up a bow by holding an arrow in their quiver? if anything the charge animation should be them drawing the arrow further but that's not even the case. WM looks just as stupid as GB because it makes no sense, somehow spending a little bit more time holding an arrow in your quiver powers up your shot just like flailing our gun around increases the shot.

They won't change it. Countless drks have complained to have the darkside aura changed but they refuse to do anything.

i just found this and I have to say that good lord, a year have passed and it. still. looks. weird.
