Feature Request: mounting on the move

Dear FFXIV team:

Please consider allowing players to mount their mounts while moving. It would remove a source of minor but (for me anyway) frequent annoyance from the game.

It's OK if whistling for the mount still has a channel time, that's cool, I just don't want the whistling interrupted because I move a little too soon.

I'd especially appreciate this feature when I am trying to get from node to node as quickly as I can while doing Ephemeral or Favor gathering.

To add to this: I would love to talk to NPCs while mounted and automatically dismount when initiating combat. It's a small thing but it would make FATE grinding that much smoother.

I remember trying out Tera and you mounted up instantly as soon as you clicked clicked on the mount, that was amazing. I don't really see to the channel time, especially since there's no open world PvP.

This is really needed. I never understood why I was forced to dismount my chocobo to talk to someone. If I can emote and use certain items while mounted, why not talk too?

There's lots of stuff like that: I can change clothes and class while mounted, but I cannot active Truth of the Mountains/Forests.
I can repair gear in the middle of combat (been there, done that) but not while mounted.
And so on.

I'll understand if this behavior is an artifact of simplifying the code that determines what can be done when (e.g. "no channeling while moving"), but I'd really like to be able to whistle for my chocobo while I run.

Kudos to the FFXIV team for letting us teleport mounted BTW, that was awesome, even if we cannot do it while moving.

It's to stop people from blocking the NPCs when mounted so people are unable to click them, they should have just made the "confirm" under rebinding keys more prevalent so people don't have to click on NPCs but use a hotkey instead. Put it in the tutorial, or a hovering icon when approaching an NPC like some MMOs do. I was surprised about how many didn't notice this when a few people were blocking the NPCs with mounts during the release of Alexander.

The problem with that reasoning is that mounts make no difference in ppl blocking out NPCs (or anything else, really, like retainer bells).

Also: while at it, how about removing the stupid gysahl greens and freeing up an inventory slot?

When said mounting on the move, I though you meant that once you hit the mount button, you start running and your mount follows behind you and jump on it lol.

That bodes ill for my request, I think. If they went to the effort to change it away from the way it was in 1.0, they may have what they consider a good reason for it.

No, you coldn't.
yes, there was no casting, but there was animation lock. No movement while you whistle for the Chocobo. The casting bar just replace the animation lock.

They should also add special running mount and dismount animations. =)

Yes, it does make a difference. I sometimes have trouble clicking on a retainer bell because so many people hover on it. Mounts are the same problem with NPCs.

I just click the confirm button when I'm near it; no problems.

This, sorry. Should have explained better. But it skips over targeting the players and pets that are butt-humping the bell while afk which is pretty handy. I gave up on trying to click through zergs a looooong time ago. Works on the Eso vendor/Alex vendor too, where a lot of people also tend to congregate.

Oh, I should try it then. I just find it easier to point and click on most things in game.

When you click an npc while mounted, you'll dismount automatically.

To target an object behind multiple players, for example summoning bell, on keyboard you click X-button and hold it, and it'll remove all names except those of npcs and objects AND allows you to click on them even through players as the cursor changes into a hand when you've "found" it.

This always seemed a little backwards to me. Get bumped from my bird for a relaxing chat, but "oh hell naw I'm gonna sit pretty up here while you all fight that thing." until you actively say, "I suppose i'll get down now."

I'd like for mounting to not break combos.

Sometimes that mob you need to kill is just out of reach to run to from the mob you just killed.

But yeah, mounting on the move would be nice too.

I never realized mounting did that, you've got a good point. Classes that don't rely heavily on combos have an advantage here. And granting your wish wouldn't lead to exploits in raids or dungeons because you cannot mount in those anyway. So it seems like a clear win.

Making mounts instant cast so you could mount while running would be the best fix imo.

On controller, hitting X/A will target whatever is nearest you in your field of vision. You scroll through targets using the left and right buttons on the D-pad (up and down is reserved for your party), and hitting X/A while targeting something will have you interact with it.

Basically, it makes dealing with crowds pretty manageable since you just tab through players to find the retainer bell.

can we repair our gear and convert and desythesize while being mounted also please

I too would love an instant mount ability, and also the ability to right click + dismount to engage a mob. I dont think we should have to dismount when talking to an npc either.

Truth of the forests/mountains should be an auto applied buff upon changing to a dol job imo.

I am happy they allowed teleporting while mounted though, excellent job on that.

Other games implemented a "void zone" around popular npcs that players could not occupy to avoid covering certain npcs/objects which also worked exceptionally well.
