The community is quite a bit better than most I've found in MMOs, but you'll still run into the occasional rotten apple. Don't let them ruin your experience though, I find people complaining about people in DF being horrible people, but in truth it's quite rare to stumble on that kind of person (at least back in early 2015 or late 2014 when I was still in NA servers) unless you're unlucky.
I would agree, though I have no knowledge of other MMOs, I came from the FPS genre and that gets pretty vile. But here I would say 99% of my interaction with others has been great. Lots of helpful folks out there.
This game is full of good people like me.
They're all the same. No MMORPG has a better community than another.
I think Final Fantasy has a more mature and friendly community due to just how long it has been out, 25+ years.
I have played a few MMOs for 15 years and I can without a doubt say XIVs playerbase is the most friendly one, ofc bad apples are around, but I have not encountered many at all in my 5 years now of playing this game. ;)
There's still some rotten eggs around, but it's generally better than in a lot of games. At least there's no "PvPrs" (more like unsuccesful sods that can't play proper PvP against equally leveled/geared opponents) preying on newcomers outside town instances like in Tera PvP servers. XD
Anyways, keep having a blast. :)
I even out the friendly players.
The people in the community are definitely way nicer than I expected from an MMO, especially to newbies. From the moment I wandered into the game bright eyed and clueless to now at level 55 WHM I receive many helpful tips and helping hands.
I'll never forget when I was brand new I tried to tackle a FATE boss on my own that was several levels too high (so clueless!) and some kindly level 50 player came over and helped me take it down. Then they wished me best of luck and rode off into the sunset on their chocobo.
I feel like that speaks for the general kindness of the community, honestly. Sure there are of course the bad apples but thus far I haven't had one outweigh the good experiences.
Duty finder can have your rotten apples at times, but everyone else in general is nice and are willing to help out when asked. Had a moment last night when I was FATE grinding in a party and I kicked the bucket when someone else outside the party revived me.
While FFXIV does seem to a fairly nice and friendly community overall, personally I do not think it is the friendliest among MMORPGs. Second place perhaps.
The Secret World had the friendliest community of any MMO by far when I played.
XIV actually ranks in the lower side for me. Maybe it's because XIV is the only mainstream MMO I've played besides LOTRO and SWTOR for a lengthy amount of time. LOTRO definitely beats XIV in friendliness though, and maybe SWTOR does too.
DF is the main reason I have to rank XIV low. I haven't met an insanely large amount of jerkish players (though I've still met a good many), but the ones I have met in DF have been pretty darn nasty. My server itself is mostly friendly.
Luckily I've met a few people recently I group with for stuff when I can and minimize the DF influence on my game :)
Someone thinks the community is nice?
What the heck, guys? We are slacking!
Extra saltiness, on the double.
I really love my server's community (Can't comment on NA server because never tried to make character on there). Really really more friendly than those F2P MMO.
It is probably one of the most friendly online community i've ever seen.
In my opinion, ffxiv has a very extreme community. What do I mean with extreme? You will find a very nice ppl whom will talk to you that day at least you are constantly talking to them and they decide to be your friends or you will find ppl that are just rude.
The minority is neutral, and there is a group that will reply/talk to you in a sarcastic tone. With that said, I don't think ffxic is the friendliest community, but may be categories as one of those friendly community you will find out there when playing a mmorpg.
I've met terrible people in DF but my server has lots of lovely people on it so it evens out.
Its a great community however the duty finder its a different story, Im sick of rage quitters and annoying people talking about parses when I play as a healer -_-, I got to the point to only run dungeons with people that I know and never use the duty finder.
Only 3 weeks?
Oh, the things you'll see...
I've played quite a few MMO's: WoW, EQ1, Wildstar, Aion, Rift, FF... Final Fantasy certainly has had the most friendly out of those. The community generally is willing to help, isn't near as toxic toward each other which is nice. Of course you have the occasional person who contradicts this, but in general the community is friendly.
Also most anti-social :)
But when you find people to talk with most of them are friendly, forums not included as they are full of hostile assholes
To be fair, comparatively it's actually slipped a fair bit lately. Especially on here. But in general, I'd say it's been a pretty amicable community, even during the worst parts of the pre-relaunch era.
Well i never run into any kid acting players like i did in PSU or PSO2 the humpers  or go out with me if your a girl ppl :P but in DF iv seen my fair share of bum holes but you run into them in any game ^^
The most friendly communities are found in the older MMORPGs like Everquest and FFXI. There is far less conflict of interests in those games then there are in newer ones like this.
It's all luck of experience. I have seen way more 'toxicity' in this game than any other MMO I have played (WoW, Tera, GW2, Wildstar). However, I have put more hours into this game, so how can you really tell?
I speak rather bluntly here on the forums, but am pretty laid-back in-game. I've encountered a handful of rude people in my time playing (a BRD from BG back when BG was relevant told me I was a shit PLD during a CT lol), but most people will either mutter 1 or 2 snarky remarks or just quietly leave if a group isn't going well.
FFXIV has three things going for it that aid it in community strength.
1) The average age of MMO gamers in general is 26, with less than 25% being teenagers (<19yo). It's a mature genre compared to FPS.
2) The average age of MMO gamers in a subscription-based game is 29, with a little less than 50% having a family.
3) The Final Fantasy brand is one of the longest-running brands still in existence, spanning 28 years. It also is a more mature brand, versus ones like Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog which tend to have a younger following.
The combination of these things tends to make the community a bit more friendly and understanding than other games in the genre. Of course, as other people have stated, that doesn't prevent the "special" ones from leaking in every so often. I would say that, on average, I see 1-2 of these types of people for every 5-6 DF attempts, which is not bad at all.
It's far from the worst, but it's definitely not the utopia it's hyped up to be in some places. The thing is, players in this game are pleasant for as long as it's easy and convenient for them to be. Sure, people will toss someone a res if they die on the world map. That's easy. Sure, people will answer questions in /sh. That's easy. Sure, people will shrug it off if a new player dies in a lowbie dungeon. That's easy. Watch how quickly that niceness evaporates when when it would actually take some effort or patience to extend, like letting people watch cutscenes, or having patience for a player who's not getting mechanics in a fight and causing wipes. I mean, being friendly is more than just not being a jerk.
So far, I have certainly enjoyed myself. But I have only played 2 MMOs and both have had wonderful people that were a part of it.
This game is great. When I finally got into Garuda twice, and each time we wiped like 8 times, I asked for a group on PF. Within minutes I had a full group to help me on Sargatanas. This was only like 2 months ago too so not sure why we kept wiping when I explained mechanics. >_>
Coming from wow, it's very pleasant to not get screamed at when do something bad accidentally.
in game community is pretty great
forum community is horrible
Eh. It's okay for the most part; not really much different than any other MMO I've played in the last decade. Zone channels in this game are a bit too repressed, though. We need more nonsensical world chatter.
Oddly, the worst humans I've ever encountered while gaming have been in this game.
It's really a mixed bag, honestly. I will say that it might lean slightly in the favorable direction, if not only because you have dungeon or trial runs where no one says anything. This game practically encourages people to be anti-social with it's cross-server match system. There's no motivation to get to know anyone, because you'll likely never see them again. It's kinda sad, actually. :(
