Why did he opt to take Minfilia?
Plot armor is the most basic explanation. Maybe she still had some protection from Hydaelyn?
Nabriales isn't a very clever man.
Something something blame the Echo.
Doesn't he say he doesn't try and kill Minfilia (or us at the time) because Elidibus wants us alive and he doesn't want to have to put up with his whining? I think he doesn't kill Minfilia for that reason. The only reason he tries to kill us is because we basically follow him and attack him.
Same reasons Igeyorhm didn't toss us over the edge after fighting Bismarck and just kill us right then and there. Plot convenience and the Ascians are idiots.
Its worth pointing out we are basically just another chess piece to the ascians or we have been in the past. For them we have been a contributor to the chaos that fills the world. That has changed as the ascians have come to realise we have moved beyond their means to control effectively and are now a direct threat rather than simply a pawn to be used.
Its been speculated that there's "rules of engagement" that the Asciens can or can't do.
One of it seems to be to not harm/kill people of that world unless it's for self-defense. Elidibus zapped Minfillia in his 1st appearance since she tried to hurt him. Same with Nabriales vs Moenbryda
For whatever reason, Minfilia is very important to the Ascien's plans. Elidibus wonders if it was by Hydaelyns doing that Minfillia survived the Ardor.
I agree, to me it seems that they have some laws that bind them that stop them from killing those not directly hostile. The WoL was definitely, definitely being hostile in the research facility.
That being said, if the game goes full Alma-Altima (or Catiua/Kachua, going back even further with the Matsuno references) with Minfilia I'm going to be extremely bitter.
I think it was because those that use Echo was protected by the light or whatever, but the WOL had his light taken away by Midgardsormr. Then when he, WOL, Moen and Minfilla are in the solar, he sees Moenbrya attack and knows she is the bigger threat so zap her. Maybe at this point in time, he still thought that Minfilla was still protected by the light and ONLY the WOL had it taken away from him, so naturally he just kidnaps Minfilla and Minfillia than becomes like Princess Peach...getting captured all the time
Nabriales could feel that the WoL wasn't blessed anymore, so there's no reason to think he thought Minfillia had it. Minfillia is an Echo wielder that's spoken directly to Hydaelyn, which presumably makes her a very rare and valuable asset for whatever they're doing.
Its bit different. If you go back to the first cutscene where you first see Hydaelyn you see other people circling around Hydaelyn. Koji Fox spoke about it in the interview at Pax East this year saying that Hydealyn has a number of people working for her. After all she embodies the whole world. What makes the WoL special is that the WoL is Hydaelyn's champion. Only the WoL has the Blessing of Light which is different to the Echo.
The echo is a special power though. It seems likely that most of the abilities the Ascians have in regards to their immortality and such are due to their own mastery of the echo. That makes echo users quite potentially powerful. I suspect that Elidibus sees value in that, potentially even as new recruits, and hence why he doesn't want the other Ascians killing Minfilia or us.
Doesn't Elidibus say that if we knew how to use the true power of the Echo, we'd be more cooperative with the Ascians? Can't remember the 2.1 dialogue all too well.
Yeah, he says that. Also, I think it was in 1.0 when Minfilia had alot of Echo users she says that in their journey to discover more about the echo, these echo users discovered something terrible that they don't want to talk about.
I am starting to think that Hydaelyn isn't all that she's cracked up to be. Especially since an Archon/Echo user in the past joined "black hooded figures" and then there's the WoD which might be Derplander
Who's Derplander supposed to be?
Honestly, even with the information we have now and our character's current capabilities (not counting any further possible lessons about breaking the chains of reality), the Echo is pretty twisted.
You can go into people's heads against their will and look into their memories.
That alone is kinda, you know, inappropriate.
