When private home owners or those who are no longer interested in leading their FC try to sell their plots, they usually ask for an incredibly unfair and illogical number to just relinquish the land. Usually close to the price of the actual plot itself. Depending on the plot, a buyer will have to spend nearly double the actual plot price. I hate to make assumptions but I truly believe that the vast majority of the players in this game do not have 50m or more to just drop like that. I have been playing for almost a year and have saved 30m solely waiting for a plot to open. But every time I try to negotiate a plot price, it's always 20-30m just for the relinquishing of the land.
The fact that the plotting crisis is basically just players squatting on plots to try and double their money is really sad for those who genuinely want to have a home.
This just encourages players to buy GIL in large quantities. And thus, you have a never ending cycle of tainted gil flooding the markets.

Not disagreeing that players are lazy, but the fact that housing is not only extremely expensive but nearly impossible to get makes it even worse. Even for players who have genuinely earned the price to buy an actual plot, players try to charge even more.

House prices really aren't that bad if you're a crafter, sell carries or buy/sell "hot" items. Also a group of crafters/sellers (a FC) can easily raise enough gil for a house(even to buy it from another player). I don't know anyone who buys gil and I doubt it's as common as you think. I'm sure once in awhile a lazy player buys gil for housing... but if they're lazy then they'd probably do it for all kinds of reasons, not just housing.

I don't care how long I've known them or if they were in my raid group. But my friends and I work together to make gil so I'm pretty certain none of them buy gil. Gathering mats for eachother, crafting, etc. When thav silk was hot, we'd put together a full party, buy a buttload of maps from the market and do them together. The one person I know who bought a house on a resale did so at a steep discount because the owner was moving servers and wanted to get out ASAP. She relinquished for 2 million. The lot itself was another three million, and the permit to build was 300K. She didn't have that much on hand, so I gave her a 3.5 million gil loan, which she paid off over the next month.
I managed to buy my house from the server last month due to an incredible series of events that will not likely be repeated with any frequency (dead FC with 1 member left as leader, and that person deleted character or something.)
It really depends on your server. When I'm in full on crafting mode, I can crank out a million gil every other day. If I didn't spend it on frivolous things (like a house... and fat cats for people's birthdays) I'd have tens of millions of gil, easily. -

New housing is coming, repossessing of abandoned plots is coming, just be patient. More housing is needed for sure but contributing to the problem by paying resellers exorbitant prices wont help. And relative to gil resellers we wouldn't have as many as we do if enough people didn't buy from them. Lots more than we think do, at least in my opinion.

On Reddit there are plenty of run sellers who claim that their clients don't even have a single one of their crafters leveled up, so it's likely a lot of people who buy runs also buy gil (other than crafters or those who have found a niche item to profit from). If buying gil wasn't so common I don't know how the people operating the bots would be able to afford new accounts to bot their gil, or spam their RMT. Some of them may be hacked accounts, but I doubt people are getting their accounts hacked willy nilly (unless they're really stupid when it comes to downloading files and whatever).Quote:

Personal Housing was not properly handled and became a clutch. There really isn't anything special about it. I own a med. and the only thing that is useful is a garden. Everything in your FC is provided for you in that house.

I feel like reselling plots like this should be a bannable offense as it just breaks the system completely.... but this is coming from someone who doesn't craft/gather so I never see the kind of money to purchase normally. Though I would love a little house in the Goblet, I'm quite content with a room in my FC's house.
The deal with the whole "RMT issues are exasperated by the housing situation," is that SE knows. Despite the fact that they initially had a system that had plots auto abandoned if the owners/Free Company hadn't logged in a month's time, people freaked out as the initial housing prices were so frighteningly steep on legacy servers that players who COULD afford them were terrified of losing all the money they had earned if they had to take a month or two off for school or something.
....Which I actually think is a legit thing to panic over when you with your company banded together to spend 260 Million Gil on a mansion! -

Is housing the main reason for people buying gil? Probably not. Is it one of the main reasons? For sure. Save for carries in current end-game content, it is the single most expensive feature in the game. People don't need tens of millions of gil for other things, and that's another fact. -

If I buy a house for 5 million then pay for the deed and deck it out with furnishings that can't be recovered why would I sell it for less than what I payed overall for it. If a player chooses to relinquish a plot except them to at least break even, if not try and make some money of it.

Exactly. You paying the person to relinquish the plot is just their way of getting the money back they put into the land, which they have every right to do. If they aren't getting their money back, why would they relinquish it in the first place? The fact that you then have to purchase it from the system is none of their concern.Quote:

I believe that SE said they are looking into a housing transfer system - and wanted to have that in place before they opened up Ishgard for housing.
However, even if they allow you to clear your lot and put everything into a tidy "deed of transfer" - the seller will still be the one setting the price.
