Same day every day Theory

Its not backed up by much, but i was thinking. Doesn't it seem like the same day is repeated everyday for FFXIV? o.O

The only time that time seems to flow is in story O.o and even that is just personal viewed and has no impact on anyone elses experience game wise.
And we only get new events added to the day when expansion pacts happen.
Oh! And events just add into the same day equation.

Final thought, Every day is the same and everything is happening at once all the time, there are no new events in reality for the game (cause they have happened already). It just seems to us that time seems to flow with new additions and things.

Stories always have "offscreen" time. I just assumed that's what most of my time ingame is.

Time is a funny thing in MMOs, in FFXIV a day is what, roughly an hour irl, so when you log out one day and log in the next 2-3 weeks have past! Was weirder in LoTRO because all the story stuff, and certain locations, were set in a specific time frame as laid out by the books.

It took about a decade of game time for him to grow up, and as far as I know the entirety of ARR and Heavensward have spanned under a year.

I'd love to know how much time passes between 2.0 to the end of 3.0 though...

That's something I miss from Final Fantasy XI... There were actual days in Final Fantasy XI that you could follow (Earthsday, Firesday, Lightsday, etc. etc.), where as here there is seemingly no indicator, we have time but one day is identical to the next... Certain stores also had holidays as well, so on Windsday the Woodworking Guild store would be closed (or whatever, I don't remember specifically), granted that was extremely annoying when the NPCs were still standing at the store, but it worked for the mechanic they were going for (the shops actually had a finite stock that would refresh after the holiday). Not sure I'd want that back, but it could work nicely for certain gathering nodes; This node only shows up on Windsday, or this Fish can only be caught on Lightningsday, for example.

Not that it made sense within the context of the story, but it was a nice little addition actually being aware of weeks passing in Vana'diel...

Those of us who watched it grow since 2.0 launch know, but a lot of people probably don't even know that the toll grew from essentially an encampment with tents to a near city-state like area over the span of the 2.X patches. I can't say when the OP first started playing, but I think by November 2014 (the date they joined the forums) Revenant's Toll was already pretty much as it is now-- paved and stone buildings.

See that's a hole in my little fun theory, not quite sure what to say about revanents toll. I would say for arguments sake that there was already a camp there when the game started right? Are there any npcs that remember the old camp?

I recall revenants toll being an aetherite crystal, a tent with Rowena/the philosophy time dealer and mythology time dealer and a tent for merchant/mender npc. Oh, and that's also where you'd go to preform your "+1 only" speed run groups as shouting in rev toll was closest thing we had to a party finder lol

I was curious about Revenants Toll actually. Having played through since launch of course it grew and grew as expected, but I wondered if a player started now whether or not any changes were incremental or not. I feel like there were bits in the story about how the Domans were going to help build it up, which seems a bit odd and out of place if they're already there and have built it. Of course the NPCs at least are probably not visible to the player until they should be, but the place is completely built already.

I think that the same day every day theory of mine is almost necessary in an mmo it seems? Things just poof into existence when we need them there and so on and so on. You can change the sky but if the npcs dont really acknowledge the passage of time and there actions dont show it to a certain degree, time is at a stand still and everything is happening at once and then all possible outcomes and futures are happening at once. Mwhahahahhahahahah! I sound so stupid o.o
