1 Materia makes any crafted item better than any NM/Raid/Dungeon item. Why?

I thought there was supposed to be some sort of balancing going on here?

Every Dungeon item, every NM item, all useless if they are unique/untradable.

A single materia of appropriate level in any crafted item makes NM/raid gear useless.

Unacceptable.

This makes raiding pointless.

There is no reason to do Batraal anymore. Nor kill any of the world NMs.

Is there something I am missing?

It needs addressing asap.

I look at the materia page on FFXIV pro and then I think about vendoring every unique I have to free up some space. Before I click to sell button I think to myself maybe it will be cool to have this useless gear equipped so I can wear it in town. Now while it seems almost everything from before is useless what I am wondering how is how attack power scales. I think Ifrit items are the only thing with attack power and with a base of 20 that may be pretty significant depending on how attack power scales. However, you can get 30 attack power through materia! So it would seem not only the NM items from the past are garbage so are the new ones.

Chill bro, you know they will make UU equipment meldable next patch. If they don't they are dumb. Simple as that.

I believe they said something along the lines of looking into allowing r/ex items to be "slotted" with materia but they wanted to view the system as it is now before making the commitment to that change. Let's just feel it out for a couple weeks, before jumping to the /angry emotes.

SE giving the power to the crafters is a good thing. Why complain about it?
The raid gear is for those who don't know of any dedicated crafters and/ or just want to take part in a dungeon and kill a boss. It doesn't make the raids pointless at all.

Because crafting is more difficult and as a result more rewarding than getting a drop because you sucked up to your shell leader.

People will be fine about materia giving more bonus if it's not such an incredible difference, geez one materia can already goes anystat+12~15, that is alraedy 3x raid gear... right now it's pointless to get raid gear because ONE materia + crafted gear will triumphs everything from raid.

ehem don't say I didn't warn and try to stop it. my guilds havn't even tried ifrit hyper mode yet we're all crafting gear and creating materia...

we even both said " am i missing something"

and its only going to get worse when guaranteed hq is released.

they did a bunch of other silly things in this patch too such as killing hqing for mages because all it does now is raise the base damage of your weapon when you melee.

they also left ancient magic aoe but increased its power so thms are now usless due to con having aoe heal AND higher dps.

can't regen mana at all if you've attacked.

sigh.. and the worst one; they removed ability que..

this patch is a huge step backwards overall though it looks so nice. -_-

3 hours to farm 3 catalysts, = 1 catalyst per hour.
NM gear = 2-3 gear per hour

im gonna call this balanced, as materia is extremely hard to attach cause of this.

Nesttlepicker (bow) got attackpower, and is extremely strong! is totally worth it from 35-40 :P

wonder how much your raid gear cost ya. coz materia is going for silly prices. also wonder what's the chance of you losing your raid gear, coz ppl are seeing how much materia they can attach and losing everything. but i guess the biggest point is you say raids are now useless, don't any1 do anything for fun anymore?

I just took all my gear off and equipped my materia crafted boots. Now I have a sword and ma bootz! Weee time for naked fun, as you say, im just as powerful with only this item.

the drops can also be fitted with materia from what I can tell. So if you add materia to the dropped gear it would be better than crafted gear with materia.

wow i can't believe the responses in this thread. lets all not care that the main content in the game is obsolete. mmos are for raids and teamwork if you want to craft and or play alone go play farmville.

Stop crying pointlessly, the best way to create materia is grouping, just like gaining exp. So materia IS group content if you want to make it quickly.

but it doesn't take skill... i think i'll move on to BF3 for some real teamwork and competition, you guys can have fun playing craftville XIV

A great deal of the fun related to most MMO activities is, plain and simply, the reward at the end. Overcoming a hard content and earning a well received and useful reward IS one major reason to do raids, kill bosses, whatever.

When said rewards are of much lower quality than what can be obtained via other means, it does take away part of the point of doing raids. Not saying dungeon gear - MUST - be better than crafted + materia, but should at the very least be somewhat comparable. Balance is important for both crafters and fighters. Specially since slotting a single materia on a sword IS pretty trivial (but somewhat more expensive) compared to doing a Dzemael speed run, no offense. >_>

all the crafted NM gear can be slotted with materia, cant wait to put a heavens fist in my champions lance!

Gotta say I agree, kinda doesn't make sense that the unique/ untradable can't have materia attached. Also doesn't make sense that many of these are noncovertable. I mean, I have a rank 29 gladiator.. I have been wearing Kokoroon's Darkshell Mail. Not going to bother to wear this since I can't get spiritbond and convert it.. thinking of just tossing.

Materia is awesome and since its such a focus in the game I'd say just make it usuable for any gear except accessories.

The problem with materia in R/ex gear is those who don't like to craft can't attach materia to their R/ex gear since it is untradable. Now if they made a system where we could throw it up in our bazarr or another menu and a crafter could from there attach a materia to your R/ex gear it would be fine.

think you kinda made the argument for me, the expense is the balance. but anyway i think it has been said in later patches you will be able to put materia on raid gear. imagine it using raid gear to make materia then using that materia on more raid gear. and see how many materia you can put on one piece, you'll never be out of a dungeons with a challange like that

Why raid? DD? That was a raid? How about waiting for more content/gear drops before you start complaining about raid gear being useless.

the OP concern it's legit and i'm with him to a degree. Don't forget btw the raid items we have now are crappy items from a leveling dungeon and a primal fight. Hell, revolutionary's briault it's GREEN rarity, the worst after white.
To have a proper compare, we should see some endgame items, too bad don't exist endgame now

Didnt think about that.. good point. That would limit this gear to those with uber ranked DOW/DOM and uber ranked DOH... damn I kinda see why they didn't do this now. That would be a complicated bazaar request it seems...

I'm about to buy 1000+ FFXIV copies just to give this thread 1000 likes. I thought I was the only one to think that.

What the game has become now (regarding equip) for who plays DoW/DoM:

1. Do content (dungeons, etc) just once: if it drops r/e equips is "good", if dont well... doesnt matter anymore lol
2. Exp your equip (Spiritbond) till you get the materia you want... (more exping even @ lv50 for everyone! xD)
3. Buy crafted equip, catalysts (eventually materias too) and add at least 1 materia to get the best equip ever... if no gil then farm mobs/leves for much time
4. Repeat 2 and 3 for all the equip you want... even playing ALONE! (lol playing alone for the best equip in the game is so... lol)

Now people wont b#tch so much anymore for not having many things to do (dungeons, etc) since the main content has become... equip grinding!

I'm not against the materia craft system in general: it's nice to have custom equips so everyone can be different from others. But I think at least 60% of the best stuffs should be obtainable as r/e by doing HARD things, fights with OUR group (LS/static party) in a MMORPG. Now 99% of the r/e stuff is useless compared to equips with at least 1 materia. Even the low-level NMs drop useless r/e things compared to mid-level materia'd equips.

I hope this gets addressed with 1.20 (jobs r/e equip?) or I'll simply stop playing. I wanna be proud of getting good items by doing hard, cooperative stuff with my LS / static party, not killing random mobs to exp my equip lol.

I'm missing Salvage, Nyzul, Einherjar, Limbus (...even Dynamis!) so much right now.

No "etc", just Sentinel. Others (Sorcerer, Sipahi, etc) are R/E.

And btw, coffer or craft, if they can be sold there's not much difference. They still can be bought and everyone can have them, even who never does content.

Man materia has been out for like 2 days the system is going to need some tweaking obviously but right out the gate? Come on...

I havent played in a while so I cant offer a solution BUT DoctorMoG I would suggest just doing the raids for fun(isnt that why people are supposed to be doing the content? because they enjoy it) and craft to get your Epeen gear. Atleast SE gave you content...poor culinarians out there still sitting there with their thumbs up their rears since SE STILL hasnt helped that class out after a whole YEAR+ !

They've stated before that they'll flesh out the system later, 1.19 was just the implementation. If I can wait for alchemist improvements despite what they did to our available recipes in this patch, you can wait for a more fleshed out materia system. FFS it's not even completely bug tested

I don't know about you guys, but I'm after Ifrit for the weapons. If crafters want to make me nice armor in the meantime, they're welcome to.

If dungeon gear was better, what's the point of the materia system or any of the new crafting recipes?

Also, Silver Tricorne has a materia slot (not sure about other world NM gear), so yes, there is still a reason to kill world NMs.

I agree with Doctor Mog and Eikiki.

There has to be some balance here: If Raid / Dungeon Gear is "the best," then why have Materia Crafted Gear? And the same with the current situation: If Materia Crafted Gear with just 1 Materia Added can make obsolete Raid / Dungeon Gear, why do the Dungeon (except for fun, which I don't mind)?

I think some solutions some of the forum veterans have offered in the past to balance this were things like:

• Allow Unique / Untradeable (Raid / Dungeon) Gear to have *1* Materia Attachable, to give some customization and allow it to be greater than Crafted 1 Materia Slotted Gear.

• Then, Crafted ~3, 4 or 5 Slotted Materia Gear would be the really rare (very hard to gain) "best" gear, but at least for the most part Raid / Dungeon Gear is still "the best for many" (unless they get lucky with Random Number Generator to get passed 3 Slotted Crafted Gear).

• Or have Dungeons / NMs drop Rare Parts that help make an Ultimate Gear (like the way it was with Dodore Wing or Uraeus Skin). This way, the Dungeon / Raid / NM still contributes to a long-term Goal and Crafters contribute as well.

Or maybe have Crafted Gear make one type of "best gear" (like one that's skewed for one type of Stat / Play Style) and have a Dungeon / NM drop another type of "best gear" (for another Stat / Play Style)?

It's a fine balance to have. I think traditionally we're used to seeing the Raid / Dungeon / NM be the source for "Best Gear" and Crafters have some stuff that's useful sometimes.

Is there an ideal solution for FF XIV?
