Do you notice the effects of your cards?

Greetings

I have been curious for my fellow astrologians. Do you notice the effect your cards bring to a group?
Personally cause i pug everything which means random people i have no decent way to see any of the boosts these cards supposed to give. It feels like i am throwing them out for the fun of it or something.

I do notice. But it is much easier to tell while in a good group.

Strange question. How would we notice the buffs? Like you throw Balance on blm and suddenly they start one-shotting everything? You throw Ewer on a whm and mana starts pouring out of their ears?

Have to agree with this. Especially with Spear, Ewer & Spire.

There are also many ASTs which throw cards on someone that got another cardbuff just a moment before...or Even better, throw a Bowl on a Monk or so XD

Such ASTs really just suck!

Not a fellow Astrologian (yet).

But I notice when I get a card from an AST.
And when I'm in a random group, I feel so special when I get the buff out of all the other DPS

Sometimes I'll throw an enhanced balance/arrow on someone and time dilate it and then I brainfart and throw another card right on them when they still have like 15 seconds left.

I have people tell me all the time they love my buffs, so I'm pretty sure they notice.

I notice them more when I'm not playing my AST (particularly Arrow--it has the most easily visible effect), as while healing I'm not paying much attention to how quickly things are dying. I spend more time looking at the party frame.

Before buffs and card changes, I honestly didn't... The only one that I would notice a difference on, while DPS, was Arrow. Post buffs/changes, I do feel it a bit more.

Last night, DFed into Amdapor NM, and I think I may have accidently made the BLM steal aggro with an enhanced Balance while they were Fire II-ing. He hadn't had problems Fire 2ing other mobs... But after one or two Balanced Fire 2s, I watched the mobs switch and run towards the poor fella, thinking, "ohshit.... oops?".

(might not have been related, but kinda seemed it, lol)

I notice moreso with Arrow and Regen-type cards more than Balance and Bole... mainly because I can visibly see mp - and now tp - bars fill. Arrow I can see the difference most when I use it on a caster (via cast bars recast) or on MCH (and watching them go faster)

of course, sometimes things like that might happen....me too! Its not a shame to make mistakes, thats not what I meant!
But when I'm in A1-4 (for example) and the other AST overwrite my cards most of the time! This is not what I call: Mistake

and it happens A LOT! o . O

If you pick a single dps to pump during a fight with balances and arrows, extending durations when possible and parse, you definitely notice a difference just by eye-balling the parse. It's harder to see it if you spread the love around.

Disclaimer: I am leveling Astrologian, and thus do not have any experience with endgame content as AST, so I won't talk about that.

As a leveling AST, I feel like all of my cards (even Spear, what's so wrong with this one?!) have an impact in my level range. I throw a Balance on the highest level (or melee if both are equal) DPS, I throw Arrow on casters, Spear on Tank or Arcanist(Scholar) for their Aetherflow, Spire on tank (this regens a lot of their bar, holy crap), Bole on tank, and Ewer on either a non BLM caster or myself. I feel good with any card I Draw, and with Royal Road, that just makes things even better.

The thing with spear is, that it just works on Skills you use AFTER you've got it!
If spear would work with CDs that are already on, then it would be much better.....but so, its really hard to play it, unless you're not in TS or so

And for this fact, I use spear almost every time just for RR or myself.....for I can't estimate the use for another class....(and spear still works "just" for 20 seconds)

This is something I dread too. I'll often try to wait for the other AST to cast his card just so my extended balance/arrow won't get overwritten. Expanded is a whole other thing, though.

It is a beautiful thing when you get another AST that can adjust and work with your own cards.

That said, I mostly notice Spire on tanks, and Arrow on blm. Seen drgs get really jolly at balance card, but I don't look close enough to notice the boost

I THINK I do, but the problem is that when I play my SCH, I DPS and DPS HARD so it's difficult to really know whether or not my cards are actually benefiting the group enough to justify playing AST over SCH.

I find AST a lot more fun, though, so I'll stick with that unless SE nerfs it or something, at which point I might just start tanking full time...

Still leveling but yeah I notice the cards. And I love setting up that perfect extended bole for the tank pull... it's like here have a lovely CD that lasts for a minute and I can focus on other things instead of spaming benefic all the time. Or an expanded one on a group when aoe damage is incoming. And I generally setup a royal road+held+ready to draw the next one so I'll draw, and then decide what to do with 2 options... do I use the held with the royal road or do I use the freshly drawn one. And then throw the other one on whatever I was planing on doing.

Well, when I was playing NIN, an AST threw 1 min the arrow to me, combined with huton and, wow, my hands and legs just moved by themselves! Just can't stop moving, resulting in TP dry and messed my mudra a little bit, so yes, I did feel the effects of the card as a NIN.

Throwing The arrow on meele/ranged is quite complicated because TP will dry too fast
When there are Meele/Ranged and Casters i always prefer throwing The arrow on casters
And BALANCE FOR ALL :D :D :D

I throw the balance card on whichever dps is highest on the aggro list. I know it's not the perfect tool for figuring out who's pulling the highest deeps, but other than utilising illegal software, it's the best tool out there.

I think I only ever use Spear on myself, just so I know it's definitely going to get some use out of it (I get to pull out the next card in 27 seconds rather than 30! woop!)

Someone Ewer'd my drg the other day in cutter's cry. I hope it was an accident. D:

I did fate leveling with a friend on drk from 30-50 with a few dungeons thrown in. Didn't notice much of an effect myself.

Even before the buffs, I had to not use cards in some DF runs, because the buffed DPS would take aggro from tanks while under the effect of my cards. It has always been noticeable and the whole issue around AST before the buff was due to the following question: is the extra DPS the cards add equivalent to what SCHs could pull by themselves or add with Selene to justify the WHM/AST combo? According to some people, the answer was no, so people asked for buffs. Almost everyone agreed that the buffs made a difference in their own terms; the difference now is that having an AST in the party paired with a WHM is considered viable because the DPS that ASTs can do by themselves and add to the group with the cards is similar to what a SCH can do.

Now that we can see party member TP bars, this shouldn't be too much of a problem. A single spire can keep a melee going for a surprising amount of time.

You can have an even greater effect if you save it for when they will have all there offensive cd's up as well. Smn in particular can be pretty rough on the tanking muscles when fully buffed and have enhanced balance up. It's like I love you ast but hate you at the same time >.>

yep the cards can be quite amazing (as long as you actually pull useable ones that is)

i still have no clue what i should do with spear though, always gets RR'ed or shuffled when i get it

I definitely notice, especially when I toss an Enhanced Balance on the DPS before the pull and they end up with agro shortly thereafter. Tanks never quite expect it.

Spear is the most complicated card to use.
If you draw it and you're about to use LA throw spear on yourself and then use LA, its CD will be reduced to 96s i guess, i don't remember.......... yeah, its not THAT useful but...it helps.
The thing about spear is, it does not work on ongoing CDs and that in my opinion should be changed.

I'd still like to see the math done out regarding whether or not SCH DPS still outdoes the average AST benefit.

My guess is that it does, but I'm not even sure how to go about really testing it...

There are just so many times when I draw garbage for cards that wind up adding nothing to overall DPS.

Pre blood weapon adjustment for drk I would cry everytime I would get the arrow while off tanking. Especially when I saw it was extended on only me :'(

When placing the buffs, yeah, usually. Bigger numbers flying on screen, easier to heal the tank, more numbers on screen, bars filling up slightly.

When getting the buff? Yup. GL3 plus Balance or Arrow is always lovely to get.

The only one I never notice is Spear. It's a great card, quicker CDs for not GCD abilities is awesome, but my luck has been I get it after I already used Luminferous Aether. So it's either get the next card extended or use it on a tank/dps. I usually don't pay attention to if they have been using their CDs so I usually just assume they burned them already and get extended...

The nice thing about this is that 8man content, the pt would greatly benefit from an AST+SCH combo. You keep the healer dps and the entire pt gets buffs from both healers.

As for 4 man content, I feel my contribution is greater if I go sch instead of ast simply because sch has good aoe dmg and ast only has gravity (on the assumption it's post-50 cap content)

Short answer yes.
long answer, i was doing A1 the other day. I wasn't really paying attention and kept using the attack buff cards on the same dragoon. Anyway, oppressor was at 50% while oppressor 0.5 was at 30 something.

or before using any other NGC like lightspeed or synastry, sure
but its not something that i can throw in the group and watch the results

btw, ever put a buffed arrow on a BLM with ley lines enabled? 30% attackspeed bonus for a class with high dmg and self-sustainability is quite crazy
