As if the crafting grind wasn't bad enough :(

I just need to vent ;_;
I mean, yeah I knew the risks going in, it's still disappointing.
This represents about a month's worth of sb just blown up & not even on the last slot.
Someone else will meld theirs easily, someone else might blow up more than me, idk.
Just frustrating crafting gear progression is limited by complete rng you have no control over.
Even having some sort of alternative, guaranteed method (eg. burn 50 IVs at once for 100%) wouldn't be that bad because you'd at least be able to see the end goal. This is just suffering.

Also, if you're on Sarg, now's a great time to sell CP IVs.

The fact that you had that much materia to begin with surprises me more than the RNG

On Hyperion that many melds torched would be over 11 mil. It might not seem like alot to some folks but some of us that is a fortune. I wish you better luck on your next melds.

You do realize that a 10% chance mean that only 10 out of a total of 100 will succeed and not 1 in your first 10 will succeed.

I feel ya, man. When I just got ready for it I blew I think 76 Command 4 on the i55 offhand. My feelings when I had to convert it to become a cunning III was undescribeable. Hence I don't pentameld crazily again.. hit bare minimums and be done with it. Wait 3 months and get welfare gear..

This is the step back I take, I'm all about melding what I need, not melding to be the best like no one ever was. Look at what you are doing and ask yourself, "Do I need this or am I just doing it for the big numbers?" You are better of in a financial and mental state to focus on what you need rather than want because when you try to get the best stats and then look to what you can make you'll realize that, while yes you can get the best stats that they aren't really necessary at this point in time.

Melding should really just eat a flat amount of materia per overmeld. The current system is both immensely tedious and immeasurably frustrating and adds nothing of value to the game. If I want to gamble, I'll head to the Gold Saucer, thanks.

Oh man, even worse when you had to enhance your gears to +10 or 20 and only then would you utilise slots to meld materia/cards/enhancements/scrolls on to it.. on some games..

I ended up ragequitting Tera after burning 800+ master enhancement scrolls on my dumb armor & getting nothing.
I love XIV too much to quit over temporary setbacks like this though.

That's sort of interesting because it's why I wanted to meld out my accs & belt. Looking at how long the i55 lasted (thru multiple armour sets at that), it seemed like a decent use of materia rather than burn it trying to meld the individualized AF sets.

I could sell it instead & just meld IIIs but idk what the point is. For me, crafting theory is what's interesting, which means I'd like to get near-capped stats to play around with progress & see where it's possible to drop steps, cp efficiency & all that yummy numbers stuff.

If the endgame is making gil, then I don't need 2-star gear to do so, you're right, my current crappy gear is more than enough. I should just SB all day or sell hq mats to other crafters, but that isn't really interesting.

I'm exactly the same as you, or perhaps were. All I wanted to do was get to the maximum cap I can get, do at least once or twice of the hardest recipe with the optimal rotations, see how "easy" i could make it and then be done with it. It felt like "end game" to me, and a final boss to overcome, first undergeared, then overgeared.. those were good fun. But it really is an expensive thing to do..

If there is one thing I learned from playing Conquer Online it is how to succeed in this kind of thing with low odds. First off, you never, ever want to blow that many items in one go. Try it three or four times, if they all fail go do something else. Wait a few mins, teleport somewhere else, try again.

RNG is not entirely random and there seem to be high and low points. Sometimes it just gets stuck in a section with very similar numbers. If you fail more than 5 in a row blasting through 10 more is usually just going to be a complete waste. It doesn't make logical sense but, believe me, do the above method and you will succeed in melds without wasting so much materia.

Now I honestly feel bad for successfully triple-melding my earrings last night with a total of three materia ...

[EDIT] Those complaining about other games, I feel your pain. I came from Vindictus where failing to enhance your weapon would 100% destroy it (at a certain +level) or you could buy a ~20$ item that saved the weapon from being destroyed, but did not increase your success chance. Enchanting items was even worse since each item could have two enchants (I think accessories could only have 1, though. I haven't played in a couple years). All of the good enchants did not have a higher success rate than 25% and had a 50% chance to destroy the item upon failure. It could easily cost you 100-500$ to gear an end game character. >.> Free to play honestly really sucks like that. :\

U decided to gamble that much vs just waiting and buying a tier V materia thats probs cheaper than all of those wasted tier IV melds.
Also like mentioned before dunno y u would want to meld that much when over melding tier 4 on the new gear isn't worth the hassle.

well, even had I waited for a reliable source of T5 materia I'd still have to overmeld 2x CP IV + 2x cmd IV. T5 for necklace just means +3 craft (+9 (/11) vs +6).
Overmelding multiple T5 doesn't solve the problem either as they're not in denominations that let you drop slots. ie., would still need to use 5 materia.

This is why I don't craft seriously. No matter how seasoned or geared you are, you're still RNG's bitch in the end. Makes one wonder the point of leveling them, sometimes. (like I'm one to talk)

Leveling a craft is all fun and games. You gather your materials, build piles of components, feel proud and accomplished when you rock a full set of armor, accessories and a weapon you made all by yourself when you're still leveling your DoW or DoM... and then you hit level cap and this kind of absurd stuff begins. That's why I only started crafting in 2.5 even tough I had all my crafts at 50 in 2.2.

Should have quit on the second meld, ridiculous to spend all that time and energy for that 10% chance, wouldn't have even made that much difference. Could have ate some food lol

I never ever use expensiv materia for that very broken meld system roulete at slot2 and higher <,< (some cost 70k and higher)
its PURE gil waste! (45%(?) and 7 melds in a row fail...? yeah sure.....)

I mean hey: I dont even dare to waste time and materials to get those new master books and I still earn a large amount of gil by crafting other stuff!

I hope we can exchange law tomes to blue scrips someday!!!

I will cry with you T_T. Yeh this is terrible. If they were going to make this items so hard to craft they should had gave it more slots. Like those Forager/Artisan which were hard when they first came and ha 3 slots which make them more easier to overmeld. So Accessories, Main and Off Hand should had at least 2-3 Open slots of 100% too.

I quad melded my earing with tier 4 and stopped there cuz gambling that 10% with another tier 4 is pointless.
Also y do u even need that much stats. Its not like ur in full i170 gear so no point really till 3.1 rolls around.

There really needs to be a mechanic through which you can improve your melding chances. Potions, food, FC actions, crafting action, etc. Maybe something you purchase with blue crafting scrips. I'd also like to see a mechanism that allows you to use more materia in a single meld to improve chances of success.

Games are supposed to be fun, not exercises in cruel frustration. The crafting design team at SE seems to be composed of all of their bitter, player hating sociopaths.

I don't have looked how it is in ARR, but during 1.0 HQ equip had a higher melding chance than NQ equip.

Melding is definitely one of the worst things in FFXIV (gosh how many times have I used this expression...)

I wish every failure will give you a stacking buff that increases the success rate of your next meld for that specific materia. Even if only by 1% each failure.

Well at least it's better than a certain Sci-Fi setting MMORPG where failing a "meld" will clear all other "melds" on your equipment...

Without the extra stats from melding, food isn't going to get you to the stats you need to craft some items.

None of the level 60 quest recipes require anything that you can't send a retainer for or gather yourself.

@OP - I saw what this did to the price on Cunning IV's on Sarg. The feels. x_x

TERA added a bonus after each failed enchantment on equipment when I used to play, maybe this game needs it for materia.
