Ast's shuffle needs a revamp.

"Hey guys didn't draw the right card use shuffle, and try your luck again. Oh, you got the same card better luck next time."I feel this is what the game says to me when I shuffle same card for the fourth time in a row. Maybe they should make it where you can get 3 shuffles before it goes on CD. Like if you shuffle you can proc another shuffle, but the proc goes away and the ability goes on CD if you use the card you got from shuffling.

just make it so you cant draw the same card twice and I will be happy!

I don't think they can lock out 1 ability from the RNG. It seems easier just to give you more chances to get a new card then that.

they do that then your stuck wasting time casting cards and get nothing while your party dies lol

Actually, seeing that the card abilities(shuffle, draw, RR, and spread) are OGCD theirs no reason you shouldn't be healing in between trying to put cards together.

The one major thing I still want to see is fixing Shuffle so it doesn't give you the same card you just discarded.

I have noticed most of the time I used shuffle, I draw the same card so their odds may need some adjusting or please let it be so that we can't draw the discarded card.

Same. It honestly seems to be approximately 60-65% of the time, I draw the same card. It's sure as hell not 16.6% of the time as you would imagine it would be as there are 6 cards.

I don't care how they change it, but wasting a CD to draw the same card is infuriating. Imagine if using Aetherflow would randomly do nothing, or only give you two stacks instead of three. I don't think changing it to not draw the same card would be OP or unbalancing, but rather a QoL change for the sanity of ASTs everywhere.

If the problem is in coding, I'd be fine with removing Shuffle and replacing it with Discard, where it discards your card and reduces the next Draw to 15s. Or something along these lines.

All that is needed IMO is make sure shuffle can not draw the same card. Drawing the same card twice in a row with Draw is fine really.

That's because your sample size is too small and/or because you're a human. When N → ∞, the draw/re-draw probabilities for a given card will (most likely) be 1/6. But a truly random sequence of numbers (or in this case, cards) will not appear so to human perception since we're way better at detecting patters (even when there are none) as a survival trait. This is why Apple changed how their devices shuffle songs and why some games use pseduo-random distributions to determine probability-based effects – to counteract the feeling of patterns in actual random distributions.

I've been thinking about this and I've come to the conclusion that they don't know how to do it. They should rewrite the code to take into account conditional probabilities, while it's much easier to just determine which card will be drawn with a 1/6 chance. Ofc this is only my guess, I might be very wrong. But basically yes, if RNG isn't on your side then the buffs an AST might provide, that are already quite weak as mathematically proved, become basically useless and AST is just a WHM with way less tools and a ridiculous personal dps. I don't know, they should probably just make shufle a 10 seconds CD skill, so you can keep using it if the card you draw is useless in a particular situation. With bad luck you might still draw only spires and spears, but at least the probability of drawing something good will be higher. If I could have it my way, I'd just make Shuffle into a 1 second CD ability and I bet cards wouldn't be too powerful anyway. After all, perfect luck (only drawing spires/ewers and balance) implies a raid dps increase of around 2%, even having full control over cards wouldn't be a big deal.

I dont think it needs a revamp or else it would be too op. The cards are rng....deal with it.

Personally I think a better change would be to completely remove the cooldown from shuffle BUT also put it on the GCD at the same time.

It'd allow an AST to brute force stronger card combos during encounter 'downtime' as an alternative to the CS>Dot dance routine that is standard faire across all three healing jobs at the end game. However the fact that GCDS are themselves a valuable and oft scare resource at times would prevent it from being overpowered.

When the first iPod (or maybe it was iPod shuffe) was released, customers complained that the device sometimes played songs from the same album or artist in sequence. For a true random shuffle, there are times where this will happen since there's nothing stopping the dice from rolling X and then X+1. It might be unlikely, but it happens. Despite the Apple engineers arguing that the shuffle was random, complaints led to an algorithm that made certain checks so that songs can't appear in certain "patterns".

An interesting idea I've seen on the forums is let's us build a deck. We pick the draw order and it cycles around over and over. Shuffle would either just draw the next card or draw a random card and restart the cycle from there.

Imo this would be very strategically interesting without really increasing the power of the class since it would mean one and only one balance per 3 minutes.
