dps, and umm solo monster hybrid ( I can solo content if im good enough) Mage.
I personally don't want to see rdm ever implemented, anyhow they put it into this game it would be a disgrace to the job.
Rdm is and was about doing what you want how you want, this game is cookie cutter do what you are told, no variety to the pre-determined role of the job. And even the little effort they tried to keep in terms of variety (classes instead of jobs) people didn't like.
Sam should just be a dps, although it would prolly be more fun as a tank but seeing how there is not much depth to tanking I don't see how it would be implemented in a non- redundant way
Maybe instead of combo chains Sam has access to Skill Chain that do different things based on what skills you use in succession. Nope, to hard for the player base to grasp.
red mage tank and samurai healer
Red Mage as Support/Healer (due to En's spells to "buff" parties members and able to back up heals), While Samurai had thier tank idea ditched should make it TP DPS user (also support for TP regen)
Samurai - Melee DPS.
Red Mage - Caster/Melee DPS hybrid.
Rdm could be a mage tank( magical tank) but I guess they tried to do that with drk. And rdm tanking in 11 was more in depth than the entire battle system of 14 so prolly wont work either...
Refresh bot? That could work lol.
Magic melee DPS for Red Mage, because we don't have one yet (auto-attacking Arcanists don't count), and magic combos could be a lot of fun. We could still cast Enspells on ourselves to keep that "support-y" feel while still being 100% DPS. (Edit: Enspells could also be cast on whoever we want and work as a flat + X% damage dealt)
DPS for Samurai too, as we already have a two-handed sword wielding tank, I think it would be redundant, and I don't really see what more they could bring to the current trio. Also, I don't really like the current melee DPS. Ninja and Monk are too fast-paced, and Dragoon... well, it's OK I guess.
I would say, for clarification purposes, that While I voted for a Magic Melee DPS for Red mage, I'd rather it be casting in close range to elemental blades. I still want my sword Mage. ((Doesn't need to be using cast times, the animations just need to be casting spells on the target rather than casting spells on their swords.))
Red mage could take up a healer spot, though instead of just having heals they ought to be limited to the equivalent of cure 1 and medica 1. The rest could be made up by buffs and debuffs to make more healing unnecessary. Careful application of those buffs and debuffs would make minor healing adequate for 4 mans and allow one full healer to be enough for 8 mans. Of course this would be a pain to balance, so never going to happen.
I need red mage tank option. NOW!
Samurai - Melee DPS
as far as Red Mage goes, would be very interesting to see a mage in a tank role
Magic melee DPS for RDM, I think balance issues would arise if they could do both melee and ranged efficiently, and would have to weaker than all other classes in both regards. Don't think we want another AST where it took them 2 months to properly balance it out. SAM can be either a tank or melee DPS, we're lacking a 2H melee DPS so DPS is the way to go I think.
I can already see the 10 hour long queues if they introduce two DPS though. =l
Against my own personal desires, I picked DPS for both.
I'd love to see Red Mage be a healer, but...a lot of people that had never tanked or healed picked up Dark Knight and Astrologian because they wanted to try the new jobs. And I commend them for that, I really do.
But arrogance and a lack of understanding of what their respective roles are supposed to be doing is a very, very bad combination.
While SAM as a tank makes sense, I'd really rather it be a dps. We already have 2 sword-wielding tanks and it will be rather redundant to have have another 2-hand sword tank.
Could also make RDM capable of filling any one of the three traditional roles. A filler job for whatever role your party has left over.
Both of the eastern Doman themed jobs being DPS would be super redundant, so I'm voting Samurai as a tank. I already got an eastern dps in the form of Ninja and Tanks have no eastern themed jobs to pick from.
Red mage could be a pretty neat sword support dps.
Samurai shouldn't be in imo. I don't really see the appeal and it doesn't really sound that unique. Just another two hand sword fighter.
My Red Mage would love these rolls, pinky out with a cup of tea.

My Samurai would eat any kind of roll in front of him.
SAM for support. (since DRK was made tank without any good reason for it... but meh) Spirit Sword skills that buff the SAM and everyone arround him with nice TP-MP regens, damage and status conditions buffs, etc. Mechanics would be similar to "shout" or "banner" support classes. A good example would be GW2 warrior.
RDM for melee DPS with intelligence as main stat and "endow" skills that give magic/buffs to his sword. A good example could be old Cabal Force Blader class.
...Are either of these two jobs confirmed?
Pretty sure Redmage was never ment to tank, even if they were able in XI. However I kinda see them having combos like other DPS but with branching paths. Say first strike starts the combos then either A)Fire path > single fire attack or B) Ice path > aoe ice attack. Least how I kinda envision it, perhaps with how every DPS has at least one ranged strike give RDM "spark" a quick lightning strike on the target.
Samurai, I have no info on from 11 so all I can say is it does seem more like a tank, I won't argue with DPS. I just want one sword class that is DPS, they don't always have to tank :(
While I voted for both being dps, it seems very unlikely that if they are adding 2-3 jobs next expac that 2 of them will be dps. Its far more likely that only one would be dps and the other/s being tank and/or healer.
If I had to pick one, it would be Samurai as tank and Red Mage as dps.
Until Avesta officially announces what he wants as Red Mage, there won't be a Red Mage. As for Samurai, duh, Damage Dealer...
Dual role classes?
Samurai - Tank/DPS
Red Mage - DPS/Healer
Doubt it would work though.
I would love for Samurai to just be in the game, doesn't matter if it's a tank or a DPS. But I do think we need more Tank options in the game, same with healers.
As for Red mage, uhhh, pewpew or what not
My thoughts exactly. We already have Ninja as the eastern themed DPS role. Samurai deserves a shot at being a Tank again, and this time NOT be pushed aside by Ninja, as it so happened in an earlier FF MMO. Yes, it'd be another Tank with a sword, but it'd certainly be different from DRK. (One uses heavy sword style combat and dark magic, the other will be more about grace and Samurai like parrying and Tanking)
So I voted:
SAM as a Tank.
RDM as a Melee/Magic DPS.
And while not involved at all in this discussion nor vote list... Dancer as the next healer please.
Maybe it's just me from playing WoW in addition to this game but I would really like it if all classes could dps also.
I really wish DRK was a dps class instead of a tank class. I mean it was a dps class when I played it in FFXI. They took hits like wet noodles. (I quit before aht urghan so I don't know if this ever changed)
*grumbles for a ranged magic damage job*
Samurai should be a hybrid tank/dps.
Red Mage should be a hybrid healer/dps.
Make Samurai, Red Mage, and Blue Mage able to do multiple roles.
Samurai > Tank or can switch to > Melee DPS
Red Mage > Healer or with can switch to > Ranged DPS
Blue Mage > Tank, Heal, or DPS depending on which monster skills or skill tree they use.
Although it would be cool, there of course would be gear issues lol maybe its not as good of an idea as i thought unless someone can think of something else.
Red Mage: While a Tank could be interesting, I choose both Melee/Magic DPS and Melee/Supportive DPS.
Samurai: Tank. A counter-based Tank could be interesting.
i don't see the point to add another tank jobs for now....
plus Yoshida have said it himself, SAM will be a dps.
i will have get hybrid for the redmage, i feel they will try something along this line.
Red Mage = Melee DPS with heals/nukes.
Please =D
