New crafting class!?

Enchanter:

Make a class that can craft small enchantment stones that would go alongside materia. Only one per piece. But the said enchantment could MAX out the entire possible stat for that piece.

Say I have a healer and want more critical chance. I could craft one of these "crit" enchantments, and place it on the armour piece. My crit would be maxed out, but I'd still have a way to keep the 5 materia for other stats. Or Maybe I want a "vitality" enchantment to make up for the lower vitality of the crafted gear over the raid gear.

For a level 10 enchantment you could only gain +10 of said stat, but for 60 you could gain 60 or whatnot. Then to make it "difficult" make it so that the mats for the high level enchantments only drop from the high end raids. Simply so that the best ones aren't easily accessible. I.E.

~Spell Speed
~Parry
~Vitality
~Critical rate

etc. And maybe exclude main stats, with the exception of the vitality.

+60 of a stat would effectively be worth another piece of gear. I have to think that would be incredibly broken.

Well, the balancing...yea, thats off. Like I said, just an idea to lessen the load of materia, and allow crafted gear to compete with "end game" gear more effectively. Any ideas on how it could be done? :o

The only way I could see this being even remotely viable would be if the thing ate up all five (visible and hidden) Materia slots.

If it did that to max out one stat, it wouldn't be worth it. Because even maxing out the vitality in one piece, you'd still have lower built in stats than end game gear. So you would need the materia. The idea wasto max one stat, to allow for more flexibility in materia melds...sorry if it's a stupid/bad idea or if I articulated it wrong.

I'm not sure why the concept of this craft is even needed if Materia already fulfills the same genre-idea.

well that's the thing, crafted gear is purposely lower ilv than end-game, to make end-game stuff, desirable.
and if crafted stuff was that good...well you wouldn't be able to afford it, so the only way to get it, is if you capped out a crafter, yourself...cause you know, greed.
crafted stuff is usually a bit of a nerfed alternative, to tome gear - occasionally it has better stats, so people prefer it over tome gear. so....i'd guess they might add ilv 180-190 crafted stuff, when they uncap alexander NM.
mostly it's just vanity stuff, that sell for loads of gil...cause apparently people will spend any kind of gil, for vanity stuff.

This is a design flaw though that makes crafting valueless.

What is needed is equal parity between them - and this can be game balanced by requiring end-game content to craft the top items, and crafting to turn the top end-game loot drops into useable gear.

I'd just prefer if it could make materia, including the demi materia, would take a lot of the RNG out of the system.

why a class that actually work on the materia, the idea of a materia giving a large chunk of stats is not really balanced, however, it's not a bad idea. instead of stats why not allows the player to get an effect like va small boost of movement speed and such.

they will be the one to create this materia and this stuff will be extremely limited to 1-2 effect max. they can to have some materia enhancing, if not change the way skill work. the main trouble of FF14 is the lack of customization of the jobs in any way. they can be the one to create too the item for allows the add of this materia on the equipement that don't have normally slot.

don't get me wrong i know that it will be hard to add tons of recipe on a new jobs, but it can be used for craft some magical tool for futur jobs added. i dunno, but i feel the idea of a new crafting jobs is not bad, especially if this one is specialized into giving more customization for the developpement of the jobs. finally soo far the materia are barely usefull outside of the hardcore, craft and gathering, it's sad to think that this system is not fully used.

I understand crafted gear is lower ilevel to that of end game gear. But that essentially makes crafting useless at end game. Yea, we get to meld accessories for our warriors, but that's about it.This class idea was my thoughts (preliminary and rough admittedly) on how we could incorporate adding another crafting class (too make the crafters happy) And still help make crafted gear in general more viable. If people have ideas I'd love to hear it, like I said...just a thought.

Except that Yoshi-P himself has stated that he has no intention of ever making crafted gear be equal to or better than end game raid gear.

the need is not to make crafting gear better than raid, more help it, the idea of a sort of enchanter go in this sense, but the trouble is like some did said find a balance right.

but i can see some people complaining saying it become mandatory to have this effect and beginning to say, this effect is better than another.... it's hard to find a right balance, mostly because people want to be the best of the best without even think it's possible to do differently. a lot of mmorpg player are thinking to efficiency only, don't get me wrong i do it too but i like to find some challenge too and try different thing.

no idea is stupid, they always allows to see thing differently, the idea by itself is not bad, however, like said, yoshi-p don't want the crafting gear to be on the same level than raid, mostly for two reason. if that was the case:
1) it will be possible via RMT to buy your progression via gears from the market board (what is stupid since people is already selling clear and it's the same)
2) raider will be unhappy since them gear will not be the best of the best and will feel they don't need to do this (one more time is stupid since raider do raid...because they love this, if they need gears as reward they are not raider)

The devs have already said multiple times they don't want crafted gear to compete with endgame gear though.

It's not a design flaw, though. It's working exactly as they intended it to.

Indeed, Materia is subject to Range in all forms. You can give 5 Materia for a small chance at getting something better and this is very inefficient. If they made a job that took a lot of the range out of it, that would be awesome. Or a job that could channel spirit bonded gear to a certain color of Materia if nothing more than that.

Its an inherent design flaw when one aspect of your creation is in direct contradiction to another aspect, or direction. Here, you have on the one hand the fact that crafting is in the game, and there are several systems to support this (Gathering is a big one, but also the Marketboard). On the other hand is the general irrelevancy of star level crafting currently in game.

Why not Enchanter as a class like in EQ2 which can charm monsters and take control of them and use them in combat? Enhance other players stats in combat?

Give it the ability to heal "Mind" and or "TP".

the trouble is they absolut try to care more about what think raid player, but let's be honest, when we see the number of completed Alexander savage i begin to wonder if it's clever as move. it was the same in ARR the number of people actually truelly experiencing the high end raid are quite low.... i feel they need to create another type of content that will be more interesting and more important will care for more player than only a small playerbase. but well it's a lost fight sadly.

Sounds just like the enchanting profession from World of Warcraft. Can we also add in the disenchant roll and have other people take your crafting materials, as well? It just wouldn't be fun without that.

It's too bad that there isn't much focus on elemental attributes on weapons because I could see a crafting class that can add elements to gear as a thing.

Worked in DAoC, they had a crafter for making gems that when "melded" to gear increased stats, much like materia. They also had a crafter that could make items that could be added to weapons to give them spell procs, they also made items required for making elemental weapons.

The devs seem very opposed to crafted gear being top notch, regardless of what's needed to get it. There are already several examples of crafting recipes that require drops from raid bosses, but they're all furniture. I'd personally prefer a full set of crafted gear that had parity with raid gear but required raid drops to make. It gives extra incentive to raid in the first place and provides people with things that are worthwhile to buy.

I think the devs have taken the stance that adding useful items into the economy breeds RMT and needs to be avoided. I'm not 100% clear on whether or not they're strictly opposed to someone who primarily crafts having access to some of the best combat gear or not, though from what's been said I think again they just want raiders to have the best gear and that's it (even though many teams eventually sell runs anyway).

The concept is not too far from impossible though. I really like the idea of a crafting class dedicated to enhancing equipment, even if its not extra stats. The only problem I could see the devs having with this is the usual server limitations, as it would possibly add more to the existing dynamics to gear.

It's not a flaw, it's the intended direction of the design. And value is 100% subjective.

I don't see how separating raid gear and crafted gear is a flawed premise. If you can craft the best gear in the game, there's less incentive to raid. Yes they still have the challenge behind them, but it makes it very possible for someone that just has a lot of gil to be better geared than the game's top-notch raiders. Something about that just doesn't sit well with me at all. If you want the best gear that the game has to offer, go raid.

There isn't enough content in the game for it. We have barely anything to do besides 2 zones or raid, 2 zones which never change and are not dynamic.

Better ideas: class uses items and turns a hidden materia slot into a guaranteed materia slot (lessening RNG at the cost of crafting mats). Higher class gets, access to high guaranteed slots (up to 5).
At max level, adds another Hidden slot to an item.

Then for other facets of the class, we can use an already brought facet of the game into DoL - Scrolls. Scrolls would act like pots, on seperate timer.
We could also add a static Materia Infusion Scroll slot - Like the Relic, but static on your inventory. A new slow really - also somewhere to dump materia for faster churn, and giving a way to min/max for the stats/build you want.

We don't want to invalidate other crafting classes, but we'd be better synergizing with them.

There's plenty of ways to do that other than to deliberately keep all crafting useless.

They could make end-game raid equivalent gear that's craftable but untradeable, so crafters can gear themselves in the best the game has to offer, but anyone else has to raid for equivalents.

They could make the BiS items for a few slots only available by raiding (with crafting providing a close second-place), and at the same time have the BiS items for other slots only available by crafting (with raiding providing a close second-place). Along with these include a grinding path (Relics) that gives the BiS gear for another slot (with both raiding and crafting taking a more distant second place). That's a pattern that keeps everything relevant and important, (while also allowing people to limit themselves to only a favorite portion of the game if they're willing to use lower-tier gear).

Instead SE has decided to take the approach that they'll pretend to offer a variety of things in the game, but in fact, raiding is the only one of them that actually counts.

That doesn't even make sense. I say go raid. You say "but our only content is 2 dungeons and a raid!"

Even if that was the truth, my response would still be: if you want the best gear, then go raid.

I don't much like the OP's idea, but some of the replies have been interesting.

A crafter that could make materia, and convert hidden slots to guaranteed, could be interesting.

Also maybe change one materia into a different type. Being able to pick exactly what materia you were changing too might be a bit too OP, so it could be at random (tho same level of material obv, not changing a IV into a II or anything), with a small chance that it levels up? Anything to put a stop to that Mutamix nonsense
