Well best to start working on them before 3.1 hits :P
Why? Zeta users will be getting a small headstart but it's not worth grinding your weapon out. Only reason to do your relic at this point is for glamour.
I've already got my Zeta but I've got to ask, why? Even if we were to get a head start, it would be so minor that the time you spent getting the relic now would be wasted. Those who want the glamour would have likely already started working on it after 3.0 hit.
Yep work on your relics if you feel like wasting your time. Great idea.
No. Pray that the relics have decent stats.
I started doing my books for Thyrus yesterday just so I can glamour the Animus or Novus version depending on my current outfit, they look so cool. But damn, those FATEs... make me want to gouge my eyes out. At least the Stardust Rod Zenith looks good enough as it is. I pray that we won't have to camp specific FATEs for the new relic.
Even with the much eased conditions to do them, it's still a complete waste of time, other then for glamour, i doubt the "advantage" people will get will be anything huge.
So yea, No.
Ya, the first couple of upgrades were kind of rough. The process, as a whole, seemed to get much better at the zodiak step. I figure that is what the new relic will be like.
Although, after seeing the WoW expansion video, I'm kind of hoping that the new relics will have a process similar to their artifact weapons.
I just finish my Last Resort Zeta yesterday :3
I'm working on my Last Resort Zeta.
Yes, for glamour.
Glamour > all
In a recent interview Yoshida stated that Zeta owners will be able to skip the starting phase, it's still not 100% though.
Source.
I rolled AST for a reason.
I don't know anything about WoW so I quickly checked a wiki, and I agree, the power-up process looks very fun. Reminiscent of the light farming stage, but with (lots of) options. I won't get my hopes up though. I bought tons of materia when their price plumetted, in anticipation for my new grimoire.
You mean a badly thought out system missing a majority of the promised features? Oh wait, that was the last WoW expansion's gimmick.
The weapon upgrade thing in WoW sounds neat on paper, and I have a feeling they got the idea directly from FFXIV's relic questline, but they are literally going from having ONE class quest per expansion to having THIRTY-SIX class quests all at launch. That's practically an entire zone of quests, and these are guys can't add something small without taking out something large.
So yeah, I'd rather have a smaller relic system in FFXIV that doesn't become the main driving force of the expansion.
You just described FFXIV, and pretty much every other MMO that promises features that are too large and ends up downscaling them. Personal housing, removing a dungeon for airship exploration, lackluster PvP for the sake of PvE content, etc. They're not the driving force of the entire expansion either, so I don't know where you got that from. They're a major feature, sure, but claiming that's a bad thing is like claiming the additional Gold Saucer content is also a bad thing as it takes development time away from other things.
I don't like most things Blizzard has done with WoW recently, but that's no reason to be cynical towards everything they do. Their artifact system is a step up from FFXIV's relic, whether or not they copied it from FFXIV doesn't matter as FFXIV has copied literally almost everything from WoW.
I pretty much washed my hands of WoW due to how I felt they were handling the story and characters. They make big changes to the world, but often represent those changes only in books. Major characters and "moments" in the franchise get badly mishandled, and at any moment 90% of the lore is being ignored by the dev team.
I guess this is why I'm so cynical about this relic upgrade thing. Each specialization of each class gets its own storyline for the relic, and it appears that some of these storylines will involve BIG changes to the story lore. Magni Bronzebeard appears to have been revived. Tirion Fordring appears to have been killed. Thrall decides for some reason to pass his weapon on to a new champion. Multiple classes start poking around the frozen throne, converting the lich king's power into their own weapons, and probably bumping into Bolvar in the process. The relics belong to such important people and powerful locations that virtually every major lore point is going to need some updating.
I just don't believe Blizzard can handle this adequately. Either most of the lore will just be ignored, with books detailing why people are alive or dead, or Blizzard will scale back the feature (as they did with garrisons) so that the base relic just magically appears in your hands without explanation.
And the relic really will be the central feature of the expansion, because they aren't planning on having any other weapons in the expansion. Dungeons, raids, quests, etc will all drop components for upgrading the relic, so if they drop the ball on the "feature" there will be no way to play the game properly. That isn't comparable to features in FFXIV that you mentioned, because stripping any of those features out wouldn't make the game unplayable.
I personally won't work on the relic since now it is more for Vanity now.
If FF14 would add some Vanity storage system like the Wardrobe from GW2 as a example then may I would get it since I wouldn't have to spend storage space on something I wouldn't use much.
I started working on them but then stopped simply because I have yet to be told what the factual benefit will have of doing them early i.e. will doing it early get titles, minions, benefit to the stats or a shortcut on future relic lines. I have yet to see SE specifically make known the actual benefit outside of players making assumptions about what those benefits will be. Now it is possible SE have said what the facts about it are but I have not seen anything other than assumptions by players and I do not want to put in the work based on assumptions that could end up being wrong.
Ok gg ast, mch, drk mains.
Hope ur zetas give u head start lmao.
glamour is the real end game
I'm a Drk, I don't have a relic.
Rather not grind out a relic for a class that I'm not going to play either.
News to me.
Interesting that they're actually considering it. To be honest, as someone with 3 (almost four lol) zetas I don't particularly want a boost. It would be nice to see everyone on the same page.
That being said, if given the option of course I'll be taking it! <.<
Please SE if you are reading this:
LET US KEEP THE CURRENT STATS ON OUR RELICS FROM 2.0!
I really don't want either skill speed or parry and would much prefer to keep my det/crt axe please.
I have a bad feeling about this...please just no atma-like process please?
Book stages ? prob will lol
More like please no Alexandrite stage.
I hope this time arround exist a balance between time-performance window of the weapon.
Honestly, the performance windows of the Relic were far too short, yet the time it took to get them, was insanely long, so much, it was literally not worth the effort considering you could get the raid weapons probably faster than the relics which were supposed to "help" in the first place...
I would rather have a faster to get, good looking progressive weapon that never reaches BiS and is doomed to a second or third place, than what we had (a very long to get, second to BiS (small windows) weapon).
Relics in 2.X were just no where near strong enough for the time required to obtain them that was my issue.
And as other said the life span of the relic after you spent that long obtaining it was extremely short.
I honestly expect the same thing in 3.X considering this expansion is basically a double down of the 2.X game systems.
I do not understand why anyone would waste time on a relic. If you are raiding get the raid weapons from the final turn (Use upgrade token weapons until then). IF you are not raiding just the get the token items and save yourself 100s of hours of time wasted and get the raid weapon once they mega nerf it when the new tier comes out. There is just no real reason to get them unless you are just extremely bored, and this is from someone who feels the game has too many handouts.
The time vs reward ratio is just too too low for relics.
Relics are basically Vanity weapon. A 100+hr long vanity item.
There's literally no reason to bother. I just used augmented ironworks weapons for the most part and quit my sphairai after animus waaaay long ago because I got tired of the tedium of light farming just to get nexus for glamour. This made even worse now in that there's no real reason for anyone to bother doing lv50 content (other than fates) since you don't get exp from them so if you want to light farm you have to JUST light farm and get absolutely nothing else out of it.
As I understood what I have heard in passing there will BE no other weapons in that expansion. You either have the relic - or you have a weapon from the PREVIOUS expansion. Possibly a leveling weapon, I don't know.
That sounds like a pretty driving feature to me if it's true.
This right here is the problem with MMORPG players these days. In order to do *anything* within the game, you demand to be rewarded with only the very best items.
You're not interested in anything if it doesn't give you the "Best in Slot" rewards.
And then people wonder why devs don't make wider varieties of content.
Maybe because the content is designed around a progression system, or JRPGs/RPGs in general really. I don't get what your point is. This isn't "anything", it's a long and tedious grind for the sake of a decent weapon. It's not fun content, you expect people to waste hundreds of hours for the sake of a single glamour?
@Gunspec, they can't "mess up" the artifact system. If anything, it'll be easier to balance the content around those weapons specifically, and they know full well how to balance content as they've had over 10 years of experience now. Sure they mess up here and there, but something this major? I doubt it, especially when it's something as simple as balancing stats on a weapon. I don't see how that would make the game unplayable. The only thing it'll lack is weapon variety really, sure there are skins, but they all have the same base look, but that can be said for FFXIV as each class only has access to one weapon type with a few exceptions.
Yet Nexus and Zeta were BiS and far more people obtained them than people who cleared Second or Final Coil.
I've done each step as they come and I've spent far more time using my relic than obtaining it. People are really exaggerating the time it takes for each step. "I've spent 6 month full time FATE farming for my 12 Atmas"...No, you didn't.
I don't know...playing the game, maybe ? It's not like you won't do dungeons for everything else than relics, so why is it a problem to do both ?
Your calculation is very wrong. You sound like each relic step would only help your relic progression, which is absolutely false.
By just doing my relic, I've been able to equip all my jobs with full Soldiery gear, then Poetics gear...things I would have done anyway.
I've spent a lot of gils on it, too...but seriously, there's nothing interesting to spent gils on, anyway...
Naaaaaah, I'm good. Even without having completed it, I feel confident in saying that the relic quest was easily the most tedious thing I personally have ever experienced in this game. Besides, I don't even like the way any of the relics look with or without the effects so even if I was just in it for the glamour, they have nothing to offer me.
