i dont understand MCH so far

seems like i just ouput dmg wayy too slow and because of that, my dps is low
im only 34 but then i run brayflox and the tank and the other dps were about 30-40 dps ahead of me


i save reassemble for slug shot, use quick reload whenever i dotn get proc, keep dot up

i use reload to combine with rs, b4b, rapid fire but that only happens every 3 min or so

The single target does seem under-tuned before you get the turret. On the flip side, it's amazing for dungeons/FATEs in general regardless of level. Supreme multi-DoTing, and amazing AoE, it's top tier. You'll just be a little sub-par on bosses compared to your naturally high end potency fellow DPS, that's all.

It gets a lot better later on, of course.

It's a bit underwhelming at the start. Clean Shot will help once you get that, though. Reload's cooldown is short enough that you want to be using it on just about every pull (typically holding it back on the pull before a boss to make sure it's up for the opener). Ditto with Quick Reload really.

Just started the machinist too. I usually use heat shot, then apply the dot to everything before using reload since those skills can't make use of the guaranteed proc. On the other hand i don't use reload as often as theoretically possible this way.

MCH is very slow to start but gets alot better at endgame. It's a long road though.

Until you get to about level 40, your DPS will be a little sub-par. Getting Clean Shot and your turret helps a tonne. Just make sure Hot Shot is always up and you have Lead Shot on at least one target (using Rapid Fire to Lead Shot all the enemies in the pull in three seconds is great).

IMO, MCH was really fun up until level 52. Once I got Gauss Barrel, I lost interest in the job.

I'm glad I'm not the only one levelling a low-level machinist who feels that the dps is sub-par and/or the actions a tad slow. I've been reluctant to do dungeon runs on my machinist because of this and have been sticking to joining in the moonfire faire Fates x_x

Hot Shot [Head Graze] -> Dot x# of enemies [Reload], 1-2 [Reassemble]-3-1 [Quick Reload]-2-3 when there are 3 enemies is what I do on MCH for trash pulls. Throw in Raging Strikes + Blood for Blood (+Hawk's Eye when I get it...) after the Hot Shot for bosses. Remember to pop Head Graze off cooldown (unless you have something to silence) as it's low CD and gives some extra damage oGCD which adds up. Anything more than 3 mobs and AOE "rotation" (Hot Shot, multi-DOT, spam AOE, repeat) is better damage-wise until you get lower on TP.

Depending on how much the other DPS are trying, I'll be higher or lower than the "traditionally" higher DPS classes. Sometimes the odd tank will out DPS me randomly, but then again I also have seen my SCH out DPS DRGs before so it's not something to be too concerned about. Things will still die more than quick enough for random dungeon purposes. Honestly, anyone who is expecting flawless play out of people using the new jobs 30-50 aren't the types of players you should bother concerning yourself with.

Going to be completely honest, MCH was not tuned to be decent until level 60 when you have access to just about everything. A huge source of your damage output is Rook Turret + Hypercharge and Wildfire combined.

A common rotation I use for my burst at Level 60:

Buffing: Hypercharge -> Hot Shot -> Blood for Blood -> Hawkseye -> Lead Shot -> Raging Strikes -> Gauss Barrel -> Reload
Round 1: Split Shot -> Dex Potion -> Slug Shot -> Wildfire -> Reassemble -> Clean Shot -> Rapidfire -> Gauss Round
Round 2: Split Shot -> Blank -> Slug Shot -> Ricochet -> Clean Shot -> Head Graze
Round 3: Split Shot -> Quick Reload -> [IF PROC: Slug Shot] / [NO PROC: Split Shot] -> [Clean Shot] / [Split Shot]

This rotation ensures that you have the potential to get 3 Clean Shot rotations into your Wildfire.

Just substitute the above with what ever abilities you have available to you.

i dont understand reload, assuming i dont get any proc, do i go split->quick reload->slug->reload->clean shot for the correct bonus damage?
basically you use the ammo on the previous skill to buff the next skill right?

Hot Shot -> Lead Shot all adds

Reload -> Spread Shot
(Ammo increases the potency for all targets)140 Potency Per target

Add in Grenado Shot where applicable.
(160 per target with ammo)

MCN is pretty amazing in low level dungeons and dungeons in general with its mix of AOE and Single Target

IMO it has a great transition as your damage starts to slow down right as you get your first turret and so on for the rest of the new skills. Gauss Barrel + Lead Shot + AOE

Why would you use Raging Strikes after Lead Shot?

Not at all.

You can have up to 5 "stacks" of Ammunition. Each time you fire a shot with Ammunition, a stack is consumed, the attack gains 20 potency, and it will *always* proc the more powerful version of the next shot. Reload gives you 5 stacks while Quick Reload gives you 1.

In general, after you put up Hot Shot+Lead Shot, you want to hit Reload so that your combo is guaranteed to work all the way through. You're not really supposed to wait to see if you get procs before you Reload--you're just supposed to plan when to use it for increased damage, like Blood for Blood or somehting.
