I can't say it would help at all with PvP queues so I wouldn't be sure so on its practicality on that front, but story and aesthetic wise, I am beyond ready to throw my lot in with an Ishgardian Grand Company.
They would have to redo all of frontlines before this could ever be a thing.
So I don't see it happening any time in the near future or even at all. But things could always change.
I think Ishgard has a lot to sort out before they start their own Grand Company.
Also on top of why I don't think this will ever happen.
If every expansion brings us to a new nation or city state. You will have people asking "when will space whale land be a grand company?" Every single time.
I can see there being a grand company formed, but not one you can join right off the bat, if at all. Mostly because the Grand Companies seem to be the backbone of the Eorzean alliance, and for one City-State not to have one is odd. Perhaps it would be like the Crystal Braves, only, you know, not corrupt.
It's going to happen in the future, don't worry about it. /em crosses fingers
I'm a huge fan of Ishgard, I'd be ecstatic if they made the Temple Knights a free company. Back when I played FFXI I was a proud Elvaan from San D'oria. Ishgard to me is essentially San D'oria 2.0, if I could have an ishgardian faction to join I'd do so in a heartbeat, I'm still waiting for a housing area in Ishgard as well for that very same reason. Some Ishgardian armor sets, an officer's uniform that isn't that coat and ridiculous looking hat, their style of weapons and armor? I wouldn't care if I had to start over at the lowest rank and had to work my way back up.
That being said though, because of the PVP thing I highly doubt we'd see a fourth grand company added, I feel as though if they ditched the PVP it would be much more feasible. But I already know the PVP is here to stay so I'm not going to get my hopes up. But I can still dream! Maybe they will add some more stuff when they add the new GC content that Yoshi said was coming.
Think the one issue with that as far as PvP goes is would they still lose the ranks? Cus I can't see people jumping ship to a new GC knowing they will be booted back to rank 1.
In order for Ishgard to form a Company it'd first have to become a starting city. There's really no precedent of a successful Company outside of the starting cities.
A lot of people wish that PVP was separated from GCs...
I'll add to that notion myself! But I digress, that's not really the purpose of this thread. I REALLY want an Ishgardian faction like that. Hell I'd settle for a faction like the beast tribes where you do dailies at this point, so long as I got some Ishgardian titles, things like "Ser," "Knight-Captain," "Knight-Commander," etc.
I can't see them handling new factions any differently than they did in Final Fantasy XI;
You travel to Aht Urhgan, join Salaheem's Sentinels, but you're still a part of whatever nation you picked in the vanilla game.
You travel back in time, while in the present you might be part of Bastok (or San d'Oria or Windurst), in the past you can join Windurst (or San d'Oria or Bastok).
But with Ishgard rejoining the Eorzean Alliance, it'd be the perfect time for them to start one now that they're letting in traffic from the rest of the country. Don't see any real necessity for it to be converted to a starting city and not just a GC option for characters that've unlocked it or finished the 3.0 MSQ.
Right now Ishgard has only come into the Eorzean Alliance. They have an acting leader, rather than a full leader of their nation. The actual leader is currently unaccounted for (he's dead, Jim!), but that's being kept hush hush for now for fear of disrupting the citizenry and causing chaos in a fragile Ishgard. They need to get their bleep together before they can even think about contributing a Grand Company into the fray lol
I think ill stay Adders. There's also the fact that i must've killed an entire platoon's worth by now...(loldrk)
