Extra Fishing Lure Inventory Please! :)

Just as my title states
For the longest time I've really hoped that one day there might be a separate inventory for all of our fishing lures
I genuinely enjoy fishing on this game but it stinks having to carry around all that extra stuff (especially with all the new stuff I'm holding since the expansion release)
It could still be a realistic aspect to the game by just naming it a tackle box or something to that effect.
As you all know, there are a ton of fish out there which require different lures so the extra space would be great for all of our lower lures and baits so that we don't need to 3-4 tabs on our retainers just for one out of the 22-23 classes/jobs in the game

Please take a look at this post SE because I think it's something that would really benefit all the players and would definitely make a lot of people very happy

Our off hand should be a tackle box. And it should be able to carry some extra lures.

This has been discussed a lot, and each it is started again, I support it! So yes, can we have separate tackle box or similar idea? :D

Since SE mentioned it's a memory problem of sorts with the loading stress on servers... Why not have players the ability to turn the baits and lures into key items if they so desired? Downside would be that we wouldn't be able to sell them anymore, and since we already have so much key item inventory space I don't see that as a problem at all. We have the limitations of 30 quests and 16 leve quests, hunting bills, a few key items here and there and those surely can't take up all 75 key item slots, can they?

The key items have 75 slots??? I never have more then 5 items in there.... Pretty much hunt logs and 1 map. What a waste.

Load yourself up with quests and you'll likely see more of it used. That said, even at 30/30 quests, I've never had more Key Items at one time to fill more than a single page of the Key Item inventory.

While I support the idea of a tackle box, it's just one of the inventory issues people have been experiencing problems with. Folks with a lot of jobs at a variety of levels are finding the Rings and Weapons pages of the Armory Chest getting unwieldy. Folks who love glamour are feeling pressured into purchasing retainers to hold their collections.

SE is aware of the problem, and are looking for solutions - but unfortunately for us Fishers, serious fishers that are concerned with having any bait for any occasion are a fairly small part of the population, and therefore pretty low on the priority list. SE's pretty much flat out stated that Fishers hoping for a tackle box shouldn't hold their breath.

Yup, as a person who enjoys fishing in this game, I'd sign for this.
Either give us a tackle box, make lures key items or......simply make all lures durable (like goblin jig or bladed steel jig). So many ways to fix this yet here I am...sitting with 1k brute leeches that take half a page of my inventory (I like camping hinterlands and sea of clouds for catkillers and hinterland perchs).

It's a bit of a weird thought, but I wonder if there's any way they could turn lures into a currency type window. Kinda like the crystals/shards/clusters

Yeah it's just gonna get worse. I desperately need a tackle box to keep all my bait somewhere.

So the reason for no tackle box would of course be server stress. They are hesitant to bulk up character data in any way, and if they did it would probably be an increase in general storage space that benefits more people instead of a lure-only storage. Somebody mentioned key items -- yeah it's weird how much inventory space is allocated to key items, you can never fill all that. I think the problem with making lures into key items would be no way to transfer them to a retainer or box or trade from there; you could only use them or discard them once it's in that space.

I don't believe them that it would actually cause any problems with memory, I just think SE simply don't care what their customers want on this specific issue which we have always been asking for. I would even be willing to buy a tackle box equipment (75 space slots) item for storing lures/baits from mogstation if needs be.

Here is a 100% workable solution for SE

Make a tackle box equip-able item for fishers offhand. Tackle box inventory is accessed via a 'tackle box' skill which allows for taking/removing your lures and baits from an inventory space. When put bait or lures in/out of the box it doesn't store it on the character but instead stores it in a special personal retainer which works same way as normal retainers do...only this one you cannot view or summon via the bell and is only unlocked by fishers who complete tackle box quest. It only stores baits and lures. Because the lures and baits in storage are not stored on the character the server does not need to keep track of your baits or lures all the time, it only needs to 'call upon' your special tackle box hidden retainers inventory when click the 'tackle box' or 'bait' skill if have tackle box equipped.

SE's memory excuse is no longer valid as they do in fact sell additional retainers via mogstation which exceed the current character inventory as a method of storage plus this method I described above would work the same way calling your retainer(s) would do when click tackle box skill. Only difference is the special retainer is not accessed via summon bell but instead tackle box skill and you would not be faced with standard retainer action list, instead would simply go straight to that special retainers inventory space to take/put in bait and lures or using bait skill to call forth that retainers inventory for selecting a bait/lure to use plus no retainer would show up at your location, just it's inventory space would appear.

You would keep your 'bait' skill alongside a new 'tackle box' skill because 'bait' skill will send an ingame system command to call forth the special retainers inventory to select bait to use as opposed to send ingame system command to call forth your characters inventory for the bait selection, the 'tackle box' skill will call forth the same special retainers inventory but instead of selecting the bait it would let you place or take out a bait or lure from the special retainers inventory space.

This way the game only keeps stored "1" variable attached to the character data and that is which bait is selected via the 'bait' skill and not the baits you carry as you would no longer be carrying any, your special hidden retainer would...which you call forth access to it's inventory same way normal retainers and their inventories are called forth via retainer bells. That "1" variable would simply be when use bait skill keeping track of the one bait have selected for use just like it already does keep track of that same single variable already ingame on the already existing bait skill. Even the tackle box offhand item would add no additional character data outside of what is already allowed for by the game.

ZERO 'additional' character inventory data needed/character inventory memory problem solved!

It'll never happen, they already have inventory issues and can't increase it because of server issues...so they say. So theres no way they are going to add extra inventory to a "tackle box".

I will defend them when this kind of accusation comes up. They do care about the fans and they are not lazy. They put in an ungodly amount of work hours to produce the amount of content they put out on a regular basis. I think this team is actually the best in the world with their work rate and communication (Live Letters, fan events).
The way this issue has been explained is that character data is already enormous for an MMO, and any further increase however slight would push it to breaking point. All of your character data is backed up very often, and it is this operation that puts a lot of stress on the servers.

Sorry, not a valid excuse. They could add a tackle box without any memory issues the same way they keep adding new retainers with added inventory space without such issues. The only change SE needs to make is instead of the tackle box stored as character data, it could be stored as retainer style data for that character. That tackle box style retainer storage data is only accessed when click tackle box/bait skills much like how summon bells works for calling forth retainers and their additional inventories. It took me five minutes to come up with a viable and workable solution as edited/mentioned above which solves their so called issue/problem so yes SE are lazy if couldn't spend five minutes to come up with such a solution themselves despite having over a year+ of people asking for such.

Yeah, I think the tackle box idea (would also give us that stat boost we're lacking compared to the other two gatherers)

Any chance they've already thought about making lures into a currency page or something along those lines? Kind of like crystals or on our currency list like I suggested in my last post? There's gotta be some kind of solution for this issue. It's a TON of space being eaten up for people who enjoy playing every class just for one of the many classes out there xP

it's still storage space on the servers, multiplied by everyone who has a character, regardless of if they unlock it or not. Your "solution" amounts to nothing more than a "free retainer" which burdens servers because it's extra storage space; the reason why we pay for extra retainers is because of that fact. The most likely solution would they charge you to have a tackle box if they DID go this route.

They have said they could not do it due to character storage memory, even before they introduced four new retainers can buy from mogstation...now totaling eight you can have. They would not have added them if retainers are restricted by the same memory problem that stopped them giving us a tackle box before because that same restriction would of applied to those retainers. If they can add retainers whenever they want in mogstation then they can use one of those for tackle box storage proposed in my solution above. If you think you have a better solution feel free to make it known.

you don't understand that you're solving the problem by PAYING for the retainers. that's the solution. it costs money. you give them money, problem solved. without paying them, it's still a character storage memory issue.
Sure they could release a tackle box, but it would mean they still have to upgrade their servers to do so. and you want this for free? without paying extra, when you have to pay extra for other similar storage? good luck.

That sort of payment is part and parcel with the subscription. Like it or not, admit it or not, SE is gouging by charging for Retainers. And if they charged for Lure Storage Space, that would be gouging too.

The whole point of the subscription is to pay for the cost of maintaining and upgrading the servers and infrastructure. If providing what customers want (more storage space) requires an infrastructure upgrade, that's what partly what the subscription is for.

Heck i would pay for the extra space each month to carry and use all my lures if that's what it takes.

the issue with lures is the same issue we have with prism , retarded system , its cool that we can use lots of bait & tackle....but come on now

leveling fishing is a inventory nightmare, btw lure and 4-5 fish x2 (HQ) ....ugh

actually the original subscription sounds like it's enough to cover just the basic inventory and free retainers. some people do use their entire alotment of character slots, which means that they're using more than their monthly subscription covers, and it evens out with people who only have one or two characters but pay for the "standard" subscription. Think of it this way: if one inventory space consumed 1 kb of storage, and there are at least 2 million subscribers, that one space of storage ends up consuming 2 GB of server storage, and only assuming everyone has only one character. I would take a guess and say that the average number of characters per person is 3. A 25-slot "lure storage space" is suddenly consuming an extra 150 GB of server storage, bandwidth (per minute? per hour?), and back-up storage (because otherwise if the wrong hard-drive were to fail or lose a sector, you would suddenly have 0 gil. what?) which needs at least some degree of redundancy.
your subscription cost isn't only going towards that, but it also has to pay the developers for maintaining the game (bug fixes, additional content patches, and maintaining the websites), maintaining the forums, and probably other things that go beyond the scope of this post that I can't think of off the top of my head.

All of that is part of the subscription, yes.

But don't let all those other things blind you to the fact that storage space, which they've chosen to implement as the Retainer system, is part of those costs too.

I dunno... If we accept it as true that the monthly subscription is enough money for SE to maintain our standard storage (inventory plus two retainers), and that adding additional storage means that SE would need to charge additional money to maintain it, then there are two options: Raise the monthly subscription price for EVERYONE by a small amount, regardless of whether they use the space, or limit the extra costs only to those who are using the additional space.

I don't think it's the case that everyone already has this extra space, and SE is just charging a fee to unlock it. Very likely, if today, EVERYONE with a subscription were to suddenly buy six extra retainers, SE would not have the capacity to be able to handle it. They would need to obtain the additional hardware, and while they did a certain (probably large) percentage of players would be told that they can't obtain an additional retainer at this time, please wait a while and try again.

It's my belief that SE added the Retainer subscription model specifically because they knew it would allow them to shortchange players on inventory space... because they knew that the vast majority of players don't NEED that additional space. For the average casual player who doesn't field multiple crafting or gathering classes and levels only one or two combat classes, inventory plus two retainers is ample space for their needs. It's not shortchanging them one bit. To keep basic subscription costs low, they charge more for the players who actually use it.

Do I like it? Of course not. I'm one of the players who has to pay. But it does make sense.

I think they do charge a bit more than what the storage capacity allows for, but I feel in any business you would do this because of expected demand increase and giving you the capability to expand your assets before said demand hits. The first few people buying additional retainers was probably a hint to SE telling them that "yes, people want this space" and so they upgraded capacity in response, such that in heavensward they were able to double the capacity. I feel like SE has the space to allow everyone to upgrade to 8 retainers at this very moment, but that charging people to do that would partially compensate for the previous upgrade, as well as fund future upgrade and maintenance.
