Skill/Spell Speed and DoTs

Was curious about how much more damage my Ninja DoTs would do with a lot of skill speed so I did a test.

Set 1: Skill Speed: 781 | Det: 427 | Crit: 517 | Dex: 850 (i190 boots are the only ones with skill speed that I have)
Set 2: Skill Speed: 540 | Det: 475 | Crit: 613 | Dex: 845

Mutilate w/ Set 1 (skill speed set) = 1480 total damage
Mutilate w/ Set 2 (mixed gear set) = 1457 total damage

Anyone else want to test this out to make sure I'm not crazy? I was expecting a bigger jump with 241 more skill speed lol.

skill speed = garbage

Same here considering SE made a big deal about how they had made the stat worthwhile by doing this.

That does sound silly compared to all the hype that was expected. How were your other stats affected?

It has been made worthwhile but only for DoT-heavy jobs (DoTs make up for >70% of the job's damage). If it was any stronger, Det would become useless. SE balanced it so that skill/spell speed has a greater effect than Det on DoTs, but only just enough to make it more worthwhile for specific jobs. Burst-heavy jobs are still going to want to focus on Crit and Det.

100 more crit + 50 more determination on the second one, compared to the 240 spell speed. The value/rng of crit could be making it less extreme. xD

Rofl yeah that could be the deal. I might test it again to see if its crit hitting a lot more later today lol.

Problem with this stat is the way they scaled it, diminishing returns. Once you hit certain soft caps, you need more speed points to get to the next soft cap( visible results) than you needed to hit the pdevious soft cap.

So you're saying, despite it making no difference for 1 dot (the faster speed test also had 5 higher prime stat lol), that a job with multiple dots would actually come out ahead? OK then.

1 dot x 0 boost = 0 difference.
4x0 = ???

I aggre that the difference is minimal for DoT but think about skill speed on a bigger scheme.

Think about if you have multiple dots at a time,
Think about if you are able to fill in 1 more skill per 30 sec. of rotation. Its 20 skill on a 10 minutes fight. Huge difference

People seem to forget that the dot damage is in addition to lower gcds. You still get damage from hitting faster. Dots don't need to triple in damage to make ss useful.

I did the same test for HoTs some days ago, the results were pretty bad too with the min/max range completely overpowering the spellspeed buff.

Someone did some fairly comprehensive testing for Skillspeed a while back and learned that 72.5 Skillspeed is 1% more damage from DoTs. There's little reason to assume Spellspeed works much differently. SS is still garbage, and that's not even counting the messy rotation, clipping of DoTs for classes, or added TP consumption -- it's just notably smaller boost than det, crit, and certainly accuracy to cap are.
