When you are fighting mobs during a levequest, it is absolutely ridiculous that you have to be careful to hit "only the right ones" to avoid destroying your SP gains.
People outside the party can't claim and attack your leve mobs, so why can't they all just be claimed at once?
When 2 mob parties of 2 mobs each approach me, why do I have to be careful NOT to use AoE spells? Why do I need to kill the first 2, THEN move onto the second 2? Allow me, the player, to decide the order in which I kill my enemies, without imposing SP penalties.
Fix this. It's lame. Heck, even the damage that my Shock Spikes does to unclaimed mobs kills my SP gains.

It is so unintuitive and just doesn't make sense. EVEN FFXI allowed players to still get XP and items off of unclaimed monsters in proportion to the amount of damage they dealt to it.
Theres still situations where certain other monsters you don't want to engage will be near, and that will make you not want to AOE, or when you don't want to pull hate on the other ones.
But a FLAWED game mechanic... is not a situation that adds depth to the game sorry. I'm not one of the people who say, "SE FIX NOW WAAHWAAAHWAAH" It may take them some time to get to this issue, but it should be fixed. -

XP from unclaimed mobs lead to SMN burn, which is, I believe, an abuse of a loophole and a plain cheap way to level.
This doesn't sound like what the OP is asking for. He is just complaining about having to use AoE carefully in the first place, which is just plain laziness. No, SE, please don't dumb down this aspect of the game.Quote:

where is the skill in fighting the same 2mobs either way, they die in 2 seconds...i don't think half the group hit the mobs that are red claimed b4 they die. behest in itself is a zergy waist of time. i'd say let them hit and kill any mob in the leve for sp, but either way behest in itself seems to be a full on fail to me... gimme that fun campaign battles had. also get rid of this only 15people or whatever and the rest have to sit it out.. how do they come up with this stuff, devs all round the world have had there iq total lowered cause of se.
and yeah the problem with smn burn was bad but they need a better fix then the one they came up with. maybe a number of mobs that give full sp in aoe or at a time, then any extra's give less and less sp. and killing way to many then those give like 5sp. iunno something that dont' ruin the fun for all. -

Yeah, this is just early training for the lazy or beginners for when more advanced content comes out. When crowd control and not aoe'ing everything down, or damaging one mob first before another causes one to get stronger etc. This is just training. It will become a habit. It frustrated me at first, esp with the butt-sniffing goats and monkies, but I got used to it.

A lot of people in this thread don't even understand what the OP is asking for..
This has nothing to do with being careful with your AoEs, and everything to do with the SP penalties being imposed by using AoEs on multiple groups of mobs during a behest or guildleve.
Personally I don't like the idea of so many classes having powerful AoE attacks in the first place. -

"Fun" is more important than anything else. I rather have that than people running off by themselves killing mobs without knowing the consequences. Besides, the game never explains anywhere the way behests mob claiming works to the player. I had to figure this out the hard way 40+ ranks down the road. They should either fix it or at least add a decent explanation for new (existing) players. But I say add all mobs as claimed for the behest party in the end. TRILLION times better off in the long run, from my many experiences. -

Couldn't agree more Balbanes. The creatures that collect near to characters are there for a reason: they dissuade recklessness. Otherwise any caster would just default to a large AOE and frazzle everything within the spell radius. There should be a price for rushing into battle without thought as there should be rewards for the discipline required to cast the correct spells accurately and at the right time. Surely this is part of the skill of the game?
