I know I don't have any materia atm, but before the patch at level 46 CNJ I had 800hp and 1200mp. NowIi have 1900hp and 900mp. What gives there's no way CNJ should have that much hp and that little mp even without materia.

Yeah my hp was about 900 dropped to 632
I think they are trying to do finishing touches to balancing basic stats before they allow us to manually allocate stats for each individual class. Just a guess.
My HP dropped from 690 to 480 and to make matters worse Sacifrice II only heals for 160 or so and Cure does 70-80 >.< got killed by a mob +5 lvls ahead
Well we can't dump 100+ points into mnd for extra mp now. And didn't the mana from mnd get shifted to pie anyway??
If you're still unhappy, go get yourself some mana based materia! ^_^b
They only gave me 100-120sp before update I was getting 280ish from +5s and 350+ from +10's
Have a similar problem. Takes forever to kill a mob that's exactly my THM/CON level. You don't get chain bonus from killing anything under your level, and fighting things 5 or so levels above you gets you killed. Way less HP and MP, way less damage, and way less Sacrifice/Cure potency. I didn't really care for grinding solo before, now it seems like a futile effort.
I thought my Mage classes would become more powerful this update because stats actually worked, but it seems to be just the opposite so far. Mobs do a lot less damage now, but when you have to grind on mobs endlessly, fights taking longer than 20-30 seconds feels excessively long and boring. I miss killing Puks 8 or 9 levels higher than me already.
I barely went up from Level 12-and-a-half to 13 with 2000 XP from doing 4 leves >_> And 3 of them I did on 2 Stars (so Level 13 enemies) and the first of it I died 3 times trying to complete it....
....solo-play sucks right now :(
EDIT: I only have 268 HP or so, I deal 8-12 per hit with Bronze Horas, and I take like 30-40 from enemies with default gear....
I like that mobs are harder cause then maybe partying will pick up more. I just think 1900 hp/ 900mp is bad for CNJ I actually think it should be the other way around with 900 hp/1900 mp.
I somewhat agree, but mobs didn't get harder. We just got a lot weaker. It's not challenging to have to cast a nuke 15 times in between casting weak heals to kill a single XP mob. To me, harder denotes some form of challenge. A pretty common perception in MMO's is that time = difficulty. One that I think needs to die in a horrible fire.
As a 33 PUG all the weaponskills of the mobs against me did 200-300 dmg roughly. Now they do 90.
So its not like we got weaker necessarily - its just needing to adjust to the new level balance.
everyone having more hp just means the cnj will have to heal himself and everyone else less often.... which means you can use more mp on actually fighting. my 50 GLD has 3400 HP/564 MP. So far it looks like I won't be needing sacrifice or cure. just bloodbath and second wind only.
What if your a CNJ who actually likes to heal.... like idk a whm?
Before, a Puk would get off one WS MAYBE, and I would have to cast a tier one heal once a fight if that. Now they take a lot longer to kill, do a lot more damage over the course of the fight, and every active spell I cast is less potent. Maybe it gets better at higher levels, but my damage spells hit like a wet noodle on mobs that are my rank +/- 1 or 2.
First Gear matter now at high level 2# now you have to use the new system and add materia to your gear.
And 3 but not last have to learn how to use your MP and not spam. too they add the system we could put point again,.
Well gotta say, Yoshi has brought the difficulty back to ffxiv. And I'm liking it a lot. This just means gearing up proper is important again.
p.s...I don't think anyone will be downing Ifrit any time soon. Lol
Also take into consideration the new materia system. I'm betting you can get get some decent MP pools out of it
Didn't they also say that equipped gear with stats like piety and mnd will effect mp values?
Gearing up proper? Mages should never have more hp than mp that's kinda the point of being a mage, your mana is your life. I have a vintage robe +1 and a jade crook +2(no materia yet) but that alone should make my character more mage centric and thus more mp.
I should feel like i'm a mage when i look at my stats. i feel like a DD with this much hp.
Materia shouldn't be that pivotal. You should be able be skilled without it and be godly with it. if the mp pool+ with materia is that big then its basically an ultimatum with materia, either you use it or u suck
Funny reading this thread, I started playing 2 weeks ago, reached level 16 before this patch, had decent Int. stat stacked so I could hit things pretty hard for my level, few points in Mind some in Piety, a couple in Vitality.. Patch today and now I am told what stats I should have... I seriously went from enjoying this game to thinking its pathetic in less than 15 minutes. It seems now that we are being told what classes are to do what so if your a con. then you will be a healer ... I was able to go out and have a decent chance to level alone, but now its pointless, Seems as though I wasted my $30 buying this game ... Play to have fun .. but now .. at least here .. told what you can do to have fun
I entirely disagree with this for the simple fact that as a 44 PUG (haven't played with my 50GLA yet, been scared of my shield and changing all my skills) I have 320 Magic potency with 184 INT, 148 MND, and 151 PIE which is almost as high as my melee stats which are 185 STR 153 VIT and 189 DEX.
Say I wanted to use magic on my PUG, judging by just bare stats with dated melee gear, I should have no problem being a mage fighter if I want to. Ultimately this stat reallocation gives us more freedom because overall all of my stats are higher and now I don't have to worry about "If I slot some INT for my spells, I'll be sacrificing STR and DEX which will overall make me weaker". I don't have that issue now and can use the most out of both my melee weapons AND magic.
Yeah the update notes confused me a bit...
So, does PIE exclusively boost MP now, or is it both PIE AND MND ? I read it as the latter, though based on what people are saying here it's hard to say now...
Don't forget though, that there are more balance tweaks in the works for future patches as well as being able to allocate stats like we used to once again. They're suspending that ability for now to see how the tweaked primary stats play out now, and it makes sense - If you make stats like STR and INT have a much more profound impact, you don't want to let people just freely boost those stats right out the gate.
IIRC, they're going to make it (probably in 1.21 when the job system is finally in place) so that you can allocate stat points individually for each class, as we no longer have a general physical level. This is absolutely fantastic, as now we're free to tailor each class to whatever playstyles you prefer.
For example, let's say your main is Gladiator, and you want to play Paladin primarily in groups. Instead of being forced into a specific style like XI did, you can make yourself an offensive Paladin with high STR & DEX in order to help generate enmity & kill faster - or maybe you want lots of VIT & MND for high HP, MP and curing power?
Or maybe lots of STR & MND (or is it strictly PIE now that boosts MP?) so that you can run around smacking mobs AND have good curing power so that you can effectively smack the mob around and heal others at the same time rather than play defensively?
All this without impacting your stats on other jobs like the old system did. You no longer have to worry about over-committing to some stats and thus screwing over your performance in others.
They really do need to tweak back the cost of cure spells though. It was bad enough when they tripled the costs in the last update, but now we have more HP & less MP? That's not exactly fair.
Where's my phantom dart damage is a better question
Where is something in this patch that's not hurting mages... besides casting in passive mode that's kinda cool
