New quest types coming to Final Fantasy XIV!

“I already talked to the team about the Moogle side quests, because they are quite tiresome and tedious jobs. For the future, we like to remove this type of quest.

There are two points to improve for side quests: First of all, you need to assign a proper story to that side quest. We also want to add more variation to the side quests.

For example, you may need to find the highest building an an area and jump off from the top if it. Or you need to carry a certain item and secretly sneak into a building without being noticed by anyone.

We think that adding that mini-game type of quests to the game should be fun. I actually talked with the team about this last week, before coming to Gamescom. Before moving to 4.0, we have to add more variety to the quests. We want to change this and the flag systems. These are the things we want to improve.”

I am so 100000% for expanded and varied quest types. The longform story-driven quest lines have always been my favourites, but mini-game types would especially be welcome. Here's hoping it means more variety and job-specific quests for our jobs, as well.

Oh dear... more Sylph carry quests >_< Those are really annoying since they are both timed AND you have to not get hit.

But what kind of quest would require you to jump off the highest building? That seems ridiculous! Any normal person would die. And if it requires a flying mount - you don't 'fall' so why 'jump off'? This just seems silly o.O

Having good reasons and stories is the main thing, I actually thought the moogles were interesting but the searching for things was rough in 3 dimensions.

Uh, Starlord... why didn't you just post this all in a single thread? This all seems like parts of the same interview split into specific sections.

Because they all came out in at a different time from the same site, I just posted them as it came. and if there is an original interview, they didn't post it as far as I know of.

Anyways, does it matter? You are getting an update on it, so it really shouldn't matter.

I mentioned this idea in a different thread, but I think adding a new type of duty would be great where there are solo duties like this where you have to do a stealth mission, or a competitive guild hest where players race to a prize in a treasure hunt...

I also think a dungeon where players must cooperatively escape from a prison would be fun where all 4 players start in different locations, and have to solve puzzles, and meet at the end, fight the prison warden and escape, but battles would also be discouraged, like all gear is removed, though this could be done with a stat locking drawing weapon, and glamouring gear into prison clothes, and interacting with a chest at the end removes these stats.

That's also something that could be done in an expansion. There are some people complaining about too many new moves and burn out trying to learn all the new skills. In an expansion, to break up variety in new battle skills, Every job could have a few puzzle dungeon skills added like Ninjas can lockpick a door to gain access to places others can't (Or a Warrior can kick down the door, but it makes noise possibly attracting attention) while a Dragoon can jump over obstacles to bypass certain areas.

Oh god... every time I'm reminded of the moogle quests I puke a little bit in my mouth.

It's good that they want to improve questing. I just feel bad for everyone who still has to go through the moogle quests. Poor souls.

Now a new DF type repeatable might be nice. Also if it could allow you to swap roles, perhaps with uses for crafting and gathering classes - you can solo, or full party them and non Combat focus is key. I loved the Rogue quests sneaking around.

I love that this update was made. This has been a huge complaint of mine. The quests are mostly "Hey I dropped some things. Can you get them?" and "The wild boar population is out of control. We have no choice but to kill....exactly 3."

So not only have the objectives always been mostly the same but the subtext, story, and dialogue surrounding these quests has always felt mundane. It would be nice to do quests that feel like actual adventures instead of errands or paid exterminations.

Vase Off is the worst GATE. I don't want more of that.


All ideas are Weekly resets

I personally would like timed quests. Ride from point A to B on the ground ... under 15 min Reward X 15-20 min Reward Y 20+ Reward Z
Or need to transport without mount..
Weekly and it posts the fastest.

How about a quest that picks a random leveling dungeon.
You need to beat that dungeon within X amount of time same time of reward. XYZ based on time.


Checks.
DPS
Kill X amount of striking dummies in time.

Tank check.
Waves of mob come at you, 1 then 2 and so on till you die, X amount kill = reward. cure orbs spawns after each wave.

Healing check.
NPC doing Tank Check, How long can you keep him alive.

That reminds me of the old wow shaman quest, where you had to jump off a cliff in order to complete it's objective. (it was a veeeeeeeery long fall)


Altho that's odd. Why were quests in games 10 years ago more interesting then now?

Because everything was new and risks were little. Now everyone only does something they know that people will eat up because taking a risk also means taking a risk with your profits.

Eh? Make the dungeons less of a straight line please. I've yet to do any of these because I spammed dungeons for Armor.

Vase off is really easy and a bit fun as long as you never jump off the 2nd floor (Break vase) and you take your time to watch for the people you need to avoid. The problem is the pay off isn't really worth the time it takes to do all that.

This game is in dire need of group open world content. Please add stuff we can do with our FC or friends involving quests and such and use this opportunity to make more open world stuff! I'd resub if that happened :D
